A heartfelt thanks to HodgysBrokenThumb and Silent Blade. It’s the first time I’ve seen that photo of our Dad and I wasn’t aware that the video of the match existed.
I will post anything else I find. Your dad will have found it a comfortable game - the Stoke player who got injured went on the left-wing, and so he will have spent most of the match marking a limping player. On a quick glance at the grainy video, I think he was involved in the build-up to one of the goals.

Bert didn't realise that he was from Ecclesfield. Quite a few Ridges in Ecclesfield and birthplace of some of our legendary players.
Any relation to Harry Ridge, local legend and cricketer, who died last year, he was in his 90's?
Bert also went to school with Andrew Ridge, who's daughter is on Sky TV.

Hopefully, in future, you will find time to join us on here to post your views and ideas.
Best wishes, I'm sure, from all on here.
Thankyou all for the kind messages. Andrew and I really appreciate the tributes to dad. A few pictures from the early days and the last game he attended last year.

A big thank you to SUFC for posting a message on the club website recognising the passing of my Dad Roy Ridge. Although he never asked for any recognition he would have been happy to have been acknowledged by the club that he was proud to have served so loyally.
Rest in peace Dad.
How sad, I was just talking to Karen as we were clearing her late mum's house, and reminiscing, we were talking about Roy and I googled and found he'd died all that time ago.
I knew Roy and had a few games of golf with him on Tankersley society trips in Scotland he was a real gentleman and I can imagine what a gritty defender he was.
Sincere condolences to Andrew & Martin ( who I often played football with).

RIP Roy

Graham & Karen

Always saddens me to here the passing of not only a Blade but a dad. RIP Roy there’s some great company for you to enjoy. At my age it won’t be to long before I’m approaching the big stand in the sky, my sadness is for those I’ll leave behind.. My thoughts are with you and yours Johannesburgblade take comfort in the time you had with your dad.
