Bought it yesterday from Elsecar Heritage Centre. Contains stats from previous season when we finished 6th in Division One. Pigs finished rock bottom division 2 :). Still nostalgic for that season.

In the same section of the Centre there's a signed photograph by Birchenall and Currie for that photo from the same season. I can still visualise and sense that 4-0 thumping of Leicester last home game of season.

But what was the price? 3 n 6?

Chuck “Sheffield United “ into the search box, and you’ll get a bit of a mixture due to key words - at least half of the results will definitely be of interest though (check out the 1897/8 League Championship souvenir).

* The key words “Sheffield United” can also be used to give you daily email alerts of SUFC lots coming up at future auctions.

It’s something I have pointed out on here before but you really should turn to the Wednesday section and savour in all its glory their record from the turn of the year onwards (Wednesday goals first):

Man Utd (A) 0-2
Portsmouth (H) 0-2
York (A) 0-3
Blackpool (H) 0-0
Notts County (H) 0-1
Fulham (A) 1-2
WBA (A) 0-4
Orient (H) 0-1
Cardiff (A) 0-0
Millwall (H) 0-1
Soton (H) 0-1
Forest (A) 0-1
Norwich (H) 0-1
Bristol City (A) 0-1
Oxford (H) 1-1
Villa (H) 0-4
Hull (A) 0-1

That’s two goals scored in seventeen games. The celebrations when they scored against Oxford must have been something to behold.

But we’ve always been in their shadow, of course.

Jammy bastard. I went there last month and came out with coal sandwich.

The book wasn't in the same place as the Sporting Memorabilia " stall"

I actually didn't realise they finished rock bottom of the 2nd division that year. A great revelation for me. Bit at start of book says we sold Geoff Salmon to Stoke for £ 200,000

Seem to recall their goal against Oxford was in last minute as well.

The Blades had a great run from January - think we only lost a couple of times at Burnley and Arsenal

I'm sure there's a photo knocking around of the Oxford game, with their Kop barely a quarter full...Wasn't it a sub 8k crowd for that game.

Don't be silly, they've never had a crowd under 20000. That must have been a reserve fixture.

It's our lasses birthday coming up and them vegetable dishes look just the ticket

If I want to get kicked out of the house that is

The price of the book new was £2-25p. Quite a lot of money in those days, around 11 or 12 pints of beer.

Only two years earlier, the 1973-4 book was just £1-30p.

They had 5 sub 9,000 attendances in succession. Two of them were under 8,000 (Oxford 7444 and Norwich 7483).

2 goals and 3 points in 17 matches.

Makes some of our more dismal seasons look quite good. Even the 1975-6 and 2010-11 seasons!

24th November 1973

7,998 was the attendance

Always found it quite amusing that the only uncovered side of their ground was the one that housed the most home supporters.

Shows how highly they were regarded by their own club!

Yep. They had what was at that point the worst year in their history at the same time as we almost got into Europe and finished only 4 points behind the league champions.

What could possibly go wrong?!

I’ll go even further. I believed, wrongly, that there'd never been a two division gap between the Sheffield clubs in their histories. I got that one wrong

When they were in the first and we were in the third? Wilkinson/Bassett?
