Always impressed me when playing against us and in the clips I saw of him.
Preseason confirmed my thoughts of a player who was skilful, intelligent and pacey.
Hits the premiership and it’s like a brick wall, first touch dire, seemingly lost his pace and more importantly not making the runs to either receive the ball in space or to stretch the opposition defence.
Yesterday was a perfect opportunity for him to step up to the plate against inferior opposition, but he failed to stand out.
Is it confidence, an inability for him to understand our system or lack of desire?
I think he is a bit overawed by the move to a bigger club in the premiership, where he expected to carry on his previous good form yet found defenders better and things therefore not coming off for him. Think he has subsequently lost his confidence.
Wilder keeps saying that he is one for the future but the only way he will improve is with confidence which he can only achieve with games. The ridiculous situation of having no competitive reserve fixtures means the only thing to do is send him out on loan; this will weaken the squad unless we Bring another in.
If Wilder likes besic he may have to sign him on a permanent to enable him to bring a young premiership striker in on loan, look abroad for an established loan or player coming to the end of his contract or look for a young developing talent for £2-3 million from the EFL.
Interesting times but I can definitely see him going out on loan.
