I'm sure I remember having a CD from the triple assault season with all the BBC Sheff commentaries of the goals in the big games that year, some incredible clips including the Jags screamer - Jagielka Hits iiiiiiiiit..... Ohhhhhhhh! What A Goal!

Anyone else have that CD? Must be knocking about somewhere!

Of the current 3 I would rank:

Oxley as a good commentator, but poor presenter.
Giddings as a good presenter but poor commentator.
Staton as being good at both.

I like him personally. Don't have any issue at all. I think the 3 of em are great and have a few laughs, take the piss a bit out of a few callers (that Rotherham fan who turned his back on the club).

What was the name of that other one - Mike summat. Didn't like him. He was like the new kid in school who you felt you needed to like but just he just did not fit in.

Same with Richie Humphreys. Massive Blade despite playing for Wendnesday for years. He was sat behind me at Wembley the other week.
there always that famous picture of heckingbottom

Wilder loved him 😂

I remember hearing a Football heaven special a few years ago celebrating the praise and grumble anniversary.

The guest presenters all made a point that when you visit all the local clubs, meet and work with the local managers.
Then you genuinely grow a desire for ALL the local clubs be do well and be successful.

It's similar with football players.
Lee Gregory grew up a Unitedite but now plays for Wednesday,
you can bet that when he leaves football he will have grown a genuine fondness (in some form) for SWFC.

Always thought Staton was more a Rotherham fan but his son is a Wednesday fan, and he takes him to S6 sometimes.
Regardless, think Staton is good at his job, doesn't pull any punches and it's quite critical/ harsh on SWFC.
I think paul walkers kid is a pig even though he, s a blade!

"My voice has gone, and I don't even care!"

Highlights commentary of all the cup games that season, i've got it somewhere.

Adam oxley pissed all over both of them.

But in general, standard of radio sheffield is immense compared to football coverage in other areas of the country

I genuinely can't tell the difference between Oxley and Giddings on the radio.

Staton gets incredibly wound up by triggered pigs on the phone. Always makes them look a bit like cunts. Respect that.

Radio Sheffield commentary is streets ahead of most local and national stations for me. Yes they may not all be blades but they certainly are biased towards the local sides when commentating which is obviously part of the job.

Next season we have the joy of 30 minute highlights on sky via the world feed commentators! Nowhere near as good as local radio

What’s a CD?

Who is it that does our pre and post match interviews?

Like the rest of the football broadcasters on Radio Sheffield I really like his commentary, I told him so on Twitter a long time ago and he was very courteous with his reply. When you hear the poor quality of commentary on other stations, we are really lucky with what we have and have consistently had.

I saw the Foxy and Linz appreciation thread and so I will also say we are equally lucky with how great this forum is.

What winds me up, is that BBC can use RDS or whatever protocol they use to update a radio display with what artist is playing on a music station, but they won't use the same system to show you the score.
Get yourself some of that internet thing. It’s quite popular, I think because it shows the scores

RDS is a bit 90’s for me. I’m DAB as Fuck

That’s how he comes across to me - I’m genuinely shocked at the support for him on here. The few minutes of commentary I’ve heard from him are usually him waffling on about himself or the food in the press room. Him and Pearson together come across as typical Wendies who regard themselves as Real Madrid level.

That was in reaction to a Rotherham fan who has some history with Staton calling in to
accuse him of being arrogant and insensitive bragging about the nice food they eat at the football grounds they visit
and how they work for the BBC so Staton needs to remember he is being funded by the tax payer.

When Giddings and Staton are on the radio together it's like "good cop back cop"

Staton has a bit of the Simon Jordans about him, he isn't a shrinking and since then, he makes jokes about the food at the grounds being really nice, when it is.
He does this to deliberately wind up the Rotherham fan, just in case he's listening. Soon the in-joke will wear off.

Can understand why someone might not like Staton but like Jordan on Talksport, I find his more confrontational/ confident personality refreshing.

Been common knowledge for years. Fortunately he's superb at his job so I think we can let it slide

Ahh....

That'll be the Chelsea fan, James Shield that you're referring to.. 😉
No Pal, must be a different one. The one I meant was the one i saw in the holiday inn at Norwich the night before out game there, sat in the bar in his blue Kerry Dixon football shirt..........oh? 🤔
