We know what the feeling is when a well known Blade dies and we are all shocked.
This is different again and despite Charlton fans not knowing him too much it will generate a lot of hurt there especially given the circumstances.
Simple to say because he was just doing the job he was trained for but the freedom he died for was that Saturday afternoon feeling we all take for granted.
condolences to his family and friends and fellow Charlton fans.

RIP.

Sympathies to his family, friends and his close by season ticket neighbours at The Valley.

My grandson saw the front page of the newspaper yesterday and asked what had happened. No way to find words for a 10 year old, I said it was an accident.

Ive just watched a video of a reporter walking the assailant's route across the bridge and he summarised the deaths and injuries en route. No words to describe my feelings on here either.

Same with 5 year old little Bobby . Life can be so cruel . The young mother on here way to pick up her kids from school hit home more to me . The world can be cruel in the name of religion and politics .

Puts football and all that goes with it into perspective .

Life is short . God Bless us all and the devastated families .

The police get some stick from football fans and sometimes rightly so however, as in life the majority are good, hardworking people and without their dedication and hard work where would we be? It always takes something like this for us to realise it, you really have to think about his family, friends and colleagues at a time like this, the blades fans salute you and thank you for your efforts in trying to keep us all safe

Well said mate!

My nephew's a copper with SYP and a couple of months ago he dived into Dam Flask in the early hours of the morning in freezing conditions to save a man. The man's family had reported that he was trying to kill himself and the YPC who was with him had to shine her a torch from the bank side to guide him to the fella.

He got the bloke to hospital, then went home and got changed into his spare uniform and finished his shift. He's ex Marine as so was used to putting his life on the line even before the police, but it shows the other side of what our police do. It made no headlines, just a bit on Twitter, because our media as a whole seem happier finding the negative police stories unless something terrible happens like this week.

Keith Palmer was a hero who paid the highest price for his bravery, and I hope that he is is recognised and remembered beyond this immediate period of grief.

Your nephew - even if it doesn't make the papers, surely there's a commendation or something similar for what he did?

It's possible that the last game he ever watched was at Bramall Lane.
If he did he should have been proud of them. Came to give us a game, very few fouls, parking the bus or time wasting. Best fame of end to end football this season.

RIP PC Palmer the hero that stood up to the coward :(

I'very so many questions and frustrations about this, but yes... my heart genuinely goes out to all the victims.

Yes JD, him and the WPC have been nominated for a national bravery award.

The police Tweeted the incident and also put it on Facebook, but the only paper to belatedly run the story was the Yorkshire Post. Nothing in the Stir or nationals.

Not a very respectful minute's silence today unfortunately. I don't know if it was Blades fans coming in unaware that it was going on.

Your nephew is a proper hero, probably above and beyond the call of duty I would think, I bet he shouldn't put his own life in danger, tell him well done from us, bet he got a rollicking from his boss ;-)

You're spot on there BB. If he'd asked for clearance he probably wouldn't have got it.

It was people coming into the ground unaware of the silence. Statton couldn't wait to mention it on the radio but Keith soon pointed out to him that it wasn't deliberate. Statton is a cunt.

Yeah, definitely people in the "concourse" who were unaware. Nothing you can do about that. There will have been noise in there with singing and such going off so no way to know the stadium had gone silent.

Credit to the one guy who told them to shut up in not so many words though.

Same thing happened at Chesterfield.
People in the concourse unaware of the silence
