Sad news is, we've lost another blade....

Rest In Peace Joe Shaw.

A big loss!

Although I never saw him play he was held in awe by many Blades!

R.I.P. to a Blade!

Doesn't he hold the record for the number of appearances for the Blades??

R.I.P

Dreadful news. Apparently his mental health had really deteriorated in later times (so says a good friend of mine), so for that alone, I'm glad he's on the pitch in the sky, enjoying himself again.

My favourite story about him was told to me by one of my neighbours who saw him at Highbury in '64. Let's face it, he wasn't a centre forward, but he dribbled through from his own box to score a brilliant goal in a 3-1 victory for the Blades.

For years, my neighbour and his travelling companions that day nominated March 28th "Joe Shaw Celebration Day", and would take the day off work and get absolutely hammered. A Blade from birth, he's sadly missed, by Blades and Owls alike.

Even Owls fans admired him; THAT'S how good he was.

From the OS............

Kevin McCabe began the AGM at Bramall Lane on Friday morning by initiating one minute's silence in tribute to Joe Shaw who died last week.

The plc Chairman - who later announced that Sheffield United are to commission a bust of their leading appearance maker - said: "Joe was a truly great player, one many of us marvelled at and will never forget. I have met his family this morning, told them about the bust, and we look forward to having them as our guests on Saturday when there will be a big crowd and a minute's applause before kick-off."
