That season was my first season going through the turnstile . My first game was home v Bristol City in sept 70 , 3-3 after being 3-0 down .

I remember that Yorkshire tv gave score updates during the evening v Cardiff - it was so so exciting watching the score updates come through . What a time to start my Blades journey and what a privilege to watch players like Eddie and Billy and the rest .

Nice memories, and yes a 'privilege' to watch that team and what a platform to launch the club to the next level.
I understand you not going to the Cardiff game as my introduction to 1st team games from nine'ish was dependent on my granddad's assessment of crowd size.

Sad news, I loved Eddie Colquoun, he was one of my earliest hero’s from when I was first stood on the Shoreham Street railings. Great footballer who never gave anything less than 100%, took no prisoners and scored his fair share of headed goals. Exactly the sort of defender and Captain every team needs. RIP

Such a coincidence that I showed this photo to a West Ham supporting work colleague last Friday!
Eddie was in the team when I first started going to games, RIP

My first match was in 1970 as well, October

It took John Harris a number of years to replace Joe Shaw as centre half.

Ken Mallender, Reg Matthewson both used without the necessary success. Harris (could have been Rowley) bought Eddie from WBA and the gap at centre half was filled.

Let's hear the Barrel of Money sung loud and proud on Tuesday.

Should the club consider the official tribute the following week when we face West Bromwich Albion?

At Wembley next week on the 5th minute let all Blades rise and pay our tribute to a great skipper and legend.

Yes. I think Eddie was in West Brom's FA Cup winning squad of 1968 but didnt appear in the first XI.
 
Some wonderful and deserved appreciation in the messages above for a Blade's giant.

We've had some wonderful players over the years, far too many in fact to mention here, but Eddie was testament to everything you'd hope to find in any player who wears the red and white stripes. I think it reveals the bond between supporters and players when fans uncontrollably become moist-eyed at the thought of a favourite from a bygone era.

For those I've met while supporting United there are qualities that you hope to find in any player we sign. Being fearless, unafraid to take the fight to the opposition whoever they happen to be, and if they're possessed of the type of talent that gets you out of your seat, then it's moments like this that cement that lifetime bond through thick and thin.

We've been fortunate to have some wonderful players over the years, the obvious current player of choice is the super talented and mercurial Iliman Ndiaye. Watching a great player wearing our colours elevates every footballing sense I have, but it's far more than this of course, it's the knowledge that they give their all, and are prepared to never lie down, to do their best for club and supporters. Eddie Colqhoun was an elite player for the Blades, so I hope the club's hierarchy have noted Eddie's importance to the supporters and offer a fitting tribute in memory of one of United's finest.

They broke the mould with Eddie, one of the very, very best.

Mainstay of our defence when I started watching the Blades.
We used to call him "t'old hobbing foot"! Tough as old boots!

Did he play for Bury against us in a FA cup match , or replay , at swillsbro for some reason , early 60s. Midweek match , chucking it down , missed last train home , or am i goin doolally ?

Fantastic post itsinyerblood. Eddie was one of my first heros from that early 70s team when I first caught the Blades bug. Terribly sad to hear of his passing, though some players will never die in our hearts. RIP Captain.
 
Has anybody got a recording of the "Eddie Colquhoun, Eddie Colquhoun" chant or United fans singing "We Ain't Got A Barrel of Money"?

Eddy began his career at Bury in 1962.
 
So sad. Met him a few times. Love,y guy, hard as nails defender 😢
 
Just seen this and feels like a kick in the guts. One of the many reasons I fell in love with the Blades on the 4th April 1972. Was fortunate to meet him later in life and a great storyteller.

Thanks for unknowingly giving me so much in life, Eddie.
