First bumped into Cooper when at School and we played Park House, we had a decent team and Park House were crap
and we were looking forward to an easy win, enter Cooper who was the bleedin referee, sent three of our team off and we ended up losing 3-2 I was pissed off at the time but always laugh now thinking about how he refereed that game!!!

Next time I was in his company was Notts County away a night match late seventies, he was joining the army that day but decided instead to go to the match, that was the day that Harry Haslam/Danny Begara song was introduced. I think it was Cooper that made that one up but could be wrong, anyway he led the singing of that song all the way through the match.

Another time was in Fitzalan Square 8 of us waiting for the Wednesday Football Special to arrive, that would have been 8 onto 500 but Cooper rallied his troops and had us in stitches with his Winston Churchill speech!!!

Final story for now was Colchester away 81/82 season and there were about 30 of us in this pub, enter 50 army blokes hyped up and looking for a scrap. We picked up pool ball, pool cues etc and the Cooper decided to be the diplomat and diffused the situation. We left the boozer only for Cooper to decide outstide that we were up for it and he led the charge back inside, we got bashed by pool cues, pool balls and beer glasses. We limped to the ground blood pouring from everywhere but Cooper refused to admit he got the tactics wrong.

Real Character, Proper Blade and Genuine Bloke RIP XXXX

RIP Cooperman.

From an interview with Paul Heaton;
QUICK QUESTIONS
Best moment
“When Cooperman, a famous Sheffield United fan, ran on the pitch at York and wrapped a 50-yard scarf around Tony Kenworthy. He ended up looking like a mummy. A pitch invasion at Crewe was special too. It was so beautifully spontaneous, as though life meant something, and nothing to do with trouble.”
Worst moment
“Walsall at home, the last game of 1980-81. We needed a draw to stay up. County got a penalty in the last minute and scored. Then we got a penalty, which would have kept us in the Third Division, but Don Givens missed. I smashed up my radio and cried my eyes out.”

I'd just started work up in North Yorkshire and took this gorgeous bird to the York match. When Cooperman made his appearance on the pitch she looked to be enjoying herself and laughed out loud and I thought that maybe I'd found someone to share my passion.

Some time into the match she asked me 'what colours are United wearing?' I thought I've still got some work to do here.

Thirty odd years later she's my wife and would probably still ask 'what colours are United wearing.'

But for one moment Cooperman you gave me hope. RIP.

A Blade of my own vintage. I've known him for about 40 years without ever speaking to him.

A real character of the old school and taken from us far too early. We shall miss him.

You and I must be of the same vintage.

For me Cooperman embodied everything that was good about the Blades and the reason I fell in love with them in the first place.

The 70's were great times and Cooperman was a great Blade.

Someone on the Exiled Blades Facebook site is saying that there might be a tribute to him before KO on Saturday
