We have a lad in our Under 14's (or something like that), 13 year old lad called Jai Jones, saw a reel of his goals last night, curves the ball into the top corner more than Gus does!

Give him a couple of years growing up, to do, and he could be an absolute world beater.

I think we should pin all the hopes for the future of the club on his shoulders.

And if he fails give him relentless dogs abuse.

Can we keep him ! being a cat 2 cat 1 clubs come in and pinch them.We have lost a few this way.

Why its important to get Cat 1 asap. Ultimately though, money (and Man City have lots and lots of it) talks. Very loudly in football.
Even cat 1 and billions wouldn't stop youngsters moving. There's a few that move for not much between the top clubs. Manchester United have a 15 year old wonder kid who has done the rounds at a few academys for example

Yes no much thing as one size fits all ! But academy 1 gives you a better chance.
Every super kid doesn't make the grade a lot of things come into play as they mature.

I take the point but we should be more proactive than that and give him tonnes of shit on the off chance he should fail in the future.

Having an Academy Category 1 status doesnt guarantee you success for the first team. Look at Reading and Derby, they have been struggling financially and havent been in the Premier League for a long time

Category 1.webp

I've heard whispers that we've got a 10-year-old lad in the Academy who's so good that we don't even let him play in games against other academies, because we don't want other clubs to know about him. He's supposedly already a better player than peak Martyn Woolford.

If you’re a parent of a kid at for example United and getting plenty of game time and attention and a Man City type club came in, I would resist all attempts to move there. Just get lost in the crowd, incredibly difficult pathway to the more senior teams and not enough game time when you get close.
That short term burst of money is nothing compared to what you could be earning in the long term by starting out at a lower level.
Hard to say no though

We have several great academy prospects! If we don't get promoted this season which is looking likely, then we will need to Sell a few players, and this could be the pathway for these prospects! Sometimes younger players play without without fear as well!!

I think I’d advise to just take the money that’s on offer, a bird in the hand type approach.

Anything can happen from injuries to ultimately not being good enough so if you can get some decent money at a young age you might as well take it. Do a “Jordan Slew” you could say.

I appreciate that side of it as well. Thinking of Kennedy, who partnered Harry in the Youth Cup final and was, by all accounts, the better prospect, but his dodgy knees ruined him. He did win a £1m on the lottery though, so was compensated….but I don’t think all young stars can rely on winning the lottery

Looks as if they are saving a spot for us. Would fill the gap between B'ham and Ipswich and make it a nice round 30 teams.
On a serious note, it just seems wrong that the home of football and a city the size of Sheffield doesn't have a Cat 1 academy.
Another example of how we lag behind other cities in so many ways.

Bournemouth and Brentford have Category 2 Academy but their respective first teams are doing fine.

I might be wrong and i'm happy to be corrected but don't those two teams rely on their scouting system to bring in young players rather than bring them through their academy.
Bournemouth have started investing into their academy set up in recent years. They’re doing a good job of it as well

Yes that is correct, Brentford scrapped their Academy in 2016 but have re-started it last year.
