I'm still sticking with wanting Steve Davis from Crewe, as I said before he clearly has no issue with letting the kids play as that is part of Crewe's ethos, and they play a decent game as well. Might even be able to attract one or two of the decent kids from Crewe over as well. As for anyone in that list, not for me thanks.
AMEN

it'll never happen though.. sob

I suggest we see how the season finishes if morgs takes us up he is the obvious choice. If we stop in this shit hole league then that could be anyone and plenty of managers yet to lose there jobs.

Why would Morgs be the obvious choice if he takes us up ?

I have to admit I would be worried if Morgan gets the job, not because of his ability, but that he would be grateful to McCabe for giving him a chance.
Whatever happen between now and the end of the season, probably doesn't matter if McCabe sayes I need to raise funds and want to sell Long, Maguire, Ironside, Macfadzean, etc.
We need a Manager who is passionate about our young players and will fight tooth and nail against McCabe selling them, because promotion is worthless if we don't have a team to build on.
Personnally speaking my choice would Pembo, who knows their capabilities.

Why not? bit unfair if he took us up which auto would surely be all 5 games won and through the playoffs would be a miracle.

Despite all, we're still in a strong position and if he does take us up he will have carried us over the line rather than masterminding promotion. He may well be a great manager in the making and I know everyone has to start somewhere but based on his footballing pedigree, his style of play, the red mist (and he won't be the most popular in the game), lack of experience, it just points elsewhere for me.

All a manager can do is quit when the chairman undermines him. If our new manager did that he'd be gone in the summer.

When the new man is interviewed, McCabe will tell him his financial responsibilities. The idea that he can take the job and somehow fight off the chairman isn't realistic.

Totally agree JC, the problem is that if he does get us up I can see McCabe getting all sentimental and feeling he owes him a crack at it full time

Downes? All he's good for is running a fuckin' Jellied Eels stall outside Upton Park tube...so sounds like Sky are naming people at random. I bet their book's got the Dalai Lama and Shughie McFee from Crossroads at 5/1...

Seriously,lets look at who's available.

McDermott - gone to the Dirties this aft.
Warnock - you never go back. Also too much baggage after the first time...
O'Neill - the only O'Neal we'll get is Alexander being played by Gary Sinclair at half time.
Gay Ron Smeg - no,never ever. If that ginger twat ever set one metertarsal in the United Boardroom, you know the club had given up all hope.
DiMatteo - Let's be serious. You're working with Drogba one minute, and Porter the next? Not a chance.
McCall - possibly, but Motherwell 2nd in the Scottish Prem,he's a chance of getting his team into the Europa League next season.Would he want to swap that for a trip to Deepdale on a Tuesday night in November?

So,after that little lot,you've got Michael Appleton,Alex McLeish,Keith Curle,Paul Dickov,Simon Grayson,Paul Jewell,Kenny Dalglish,Mark Hughes,Owen Coyle,plus all the other usual suspects...

Whoever it is,its got to be the right man,not a YES man. That gap between the top table and the lower order widens with every season, and the sooner we are back in the Championship the better. From there,we can kick on,and by then, hopefully,we might just have found someone willing to give the financial clout to get back to the promised land...and keep us there.

Good post. I question what "not a yes man" is though? They can't spend what they haven't got, and "hey, when Crystal Palace come calling"......

McCabe made it clear that the next man will be told to use the academy much more. Whatever we've had before, the next man will have to be more of a "yes man".

Exactly.

Well McCabe has stated "I suspect we will go with a young manager, someone 21st century, with 21st century thoughts." - that rules out quite a few. Karl Robinson would fit the bill if he wasn't with MK Dons, any chance of them sacking him at the end of the season if they don't make the play-offs?

By YES man,its meant in the context that he should be his own man,and not just have his strings pulled by the board,as has been seen in a whole host of failing clubs. He also needs to drive home to Kevin that if we're going to have to sell our best players,we don't just accept the first few quid..we need to use our business head and chance our arm when they come knocking. If we're going to sell, sell for as much as we can get...

And what's wrong in giving the academy kids a chance? It never did Man U any harm, when everybody questioned Ferguson playing some little Welsh lad called Giggs, and a lad who'd did OK out on loan at Preston. He went on to captain England...

If they're young enough, they're good enough,so let's get 'em blooded..and lets hope they're the bright future we've been hoping for since the days of Woodward and Salmons were signed as schoolboys, and some 17yr old lad called Keith Edwards was blooded in the first team.

With hope,passion,and most of all,investment...

As per the Barcelona example, there are many reasons why we just aren't comaparable.

If they are good enough, so be it. But just because they are there, or because managers have failed to blood them, doesn't mean they were good enough.

We are yet, I believe, to fail to blood a youngster who has gone on to prove us wrong.

Martin O'Neil? the true chequebook Manager. is the reason why Villa are dire, spent all Lerner's money. At Sunderland bought Stephen Fletcher for £15m from Wolves. He only 10 the season before £1.5m a goal a bit of an overspend!:)

We have to stop thinking we're big enough to attract names like O'Neil and Di Matteo. At the moment (and come May in my opinion for that matter) we're a League One side, so with that in mind we're only going to be getting someone like Stuart McCall (Personally I think he will be our manager come July), Phil Brown, Chris Morgan, John Pemberton, I can't see us getting any stand out names. This will especially be the case if we don't go up, because there is no doubt in my mind Long and Maguire will both be gone if we fall short again and McCabe will be more than happy with another yes man.

Indeed, but we, unlike some fans in the city, do not THINK we are a massive Club; we don't think we have a RIGHT to play in the Premiership and Europe etc. But it would still be nice to have a Manager who plays decent, exciting football even if its not like Barcelona.
Our heroes tend to be people like Woody & Morris ( wingers ) , Deano and Keith Edwards ( strikers ) , Currie and Doyle [joke !!] gifted playmakers. We tend to like exciting attacking football without too much ill considered hoof.
I would settle for a manager who can deliver this to us. We dont NEED a huge budget in this division, just consistency !!
