I sit next to a pig at work. I sometimes try to engage him in actual conversation about football, but usually he goes straight for incredibly dull insults. I tried telling him about the behind the scenes transfer deadline day stuff earlier in the week, and today I tried to give him an update on the story with the comments from Fleetwood and Sinclair. Here's the dialogue which followed:

Pig: well who'd want to play at [inane insult about BDTBL]
Me: that's a bit rich
Pig: why? Because Hillsborough is so fantastic? Do you remember Euro '96?
Me: did you know Bramall Lane is one of only two grounds to have hosted test cricket, international football and an FA Cup final?
Pig: yeah but did it host any games at Euro '96?
Me: actually, you're right. I'll tell you another fantastic ground: Forest's City Ground
Pig: yeah, it is a fantastic ground, as is Old Trafford, Anfield, St James Park...
Me: so hosting games at Euro '96 is the top criterion for a great stadium? Ok, I'll tell you some crap grounds then: Camp Nou, Bernabeu, Rome's Stadio Olympico...
Pig: no they are great stadiums, they hosted European Championships too
Me: ok, I'll tell you a really terrible one then: the Maracanã
Pig: that is bad, people died there

Unbelievable ! On second thoughts, perhaps not.

(Patient at the hospital sees my United mug)

"You lot must be worried that Billy Sharps the only one in your team who can score"

Me:

You should be worried that he's scored more than your entire team.
Oh and by the way, you're dying.

(Ok that last sentence was a lie)

You should have told him that Hillsboro' and the number 96 are synonymous with a tragedy that now makes the shithole one of the most repugnant places on the planet.

Tomorrow, just save time, walk in, throw your freshly brewed tea on him and give him a swift right hook to the jaw, thus, knocking the twat off his perch.
Not only will you feel so much better, but you will also have done the world a favour, and, I bet you get a pay rise immediately after!!

Its easy to bash my club over the sad day in the semi-final day,i would have liked a new away end built and facilities for away fans but sadly it didnt happen.

Sorry mate but that's a load of bollox , sad day , it could have happened at your death trap at any of the other semi's that were held at your uncertified safety last ground , it could have happened to us on Boxing Day , and yes I was there :( .
You got lucky for a long time , you could have done the ground up , after you had your debt written off , you know what sickened me is when you had our children's hospital on your shirts while avoiding paying tax and N.I .
Your grounds a fucking shithole ( and dangerous ) hence when you sell out , they are thousands of unused seats .

matey i dont have full facts on what went off that day and know it was sad,the debt was not written off as milan went to co-op and asked what they wanted and he paid what they wanted so the myth about written off is nonsense,im not going to post on this thread again as it will end up a slanging match and that's not why i joined this forum.

These days i find it's quite difficult chatting to Pigs about football in a reasonable manner (not on my part). In my experience, they're gobshites.

He asked them what they wanted ?

And they said oh nowt keep the 30 million you owe us mate?

IIRC it was about £7m and it was only repayable contingent on them making the Prem, so to all intents it was written off. This clause presumably gave the Co-op a microscopic fig leaf to hide behind.

I can only hope it was not time limited and that interest continues to accrue. With a bit of luck if they do ever make the Prem, it will be just after the Sky bubble has burst and they will owe the Co-op £156m by then.

God so much has happened since I was there earlier in the year, I'll be using the new Iron Horse to travel from Heuston to the wilderness of Kilkenny in a couple of weeks as well :rolleyes:

They were desperate to brush it under the carpet. Banks were hated at the time due to the crash and the Co-op were promoting themselves as an ethical bank and didn't want to be seen to be putting a club into administration. In many ways they were as culpable as any lender that loans money to people or organisations with the knowledge they'll struggle to repay it.

Ironically, I was going to switch accounts to the Co-op due to their 'ethical' stance but after they let the pigs off the hook I thought 'fuck it, they're all as bad as each other' and never bothered.

It was £17m and it's ridiculous that they didn't ask for a charge over the ground in exchange. I toyed with the idea of taking out a mortgage with the Co-op then using the Wednesday get out clause to avoid paying it off but realised that there's no way I'd lower myself to deal with them.

Wasn't it their merchant banking arm that lent them the money in the 'boom times'. The Co-op formed in tough Victorian times in salt of the earth Rochdale to allow the working class to own their own institution. I can imagine the grave spinning, given the money was spunked on overpaid and unfit foreign footballers.

You can't blame Mandric for driving a hard bargain as it was his own money he was investing. The Co-op just rolled over had their tummy tickled.

What's that phrase...
"When you owe a bank a million pounds and can't pay, you have a problem.
When you owe a bank 500 million pounds and can't pay, the bank has a problem".

And not a single mention of their world record...

I'm disappointed..

NOT Written off ? Fucking hell Ive heard some claptrap in my time but this beats all !
Pigs may have paid something towards the debt but it was minsiscule to the overall debt and its akin to how individuals set up debt management plans or IVA's where a very small % of the debt is paid and the creditors get as low as 5-10% of what is owed so the majority is WRITTEN OFF . !!
The CO-OP agreed to this because they were in trouble themselves at the time and wanted to get a buyer so were trying to get into a position where a buyer knew what they would get !

In a Debt management Plan you end up paying 100% of the debt back.

In an IVA the amount the creditors get back depends on disposable income and assets( the same applies in a CVA). Yes it can be as low as 5p in the £ ( or even lower) but it can also be 100p in the £

As I recall with this debt, Wednesday were on the verge of going under and Manderic made a deal to offer a lump sum and the bank would write off the remainder. This is common practice with the Banks and other creditors where they agree a deal a company because they believe that in liquidation (or administration) they would get less money.
