Talking of submitting a £25m bid for Rhian Brewster, wouldn't we be better off bidding for European players?
They're better value for money after all. But would they get a work permit now we've left the EU... what's everyone's thoughts on Brexit anyway. Good idea or a bad idea?

Also, £25m?! It's obscene the amount of money being spent on transfers, particularly given we're in the middle of a pandemic. Imagine how many tests could be procured for that money... the lack of available tests really has been a shit show from the Government. What's everyone else's views on Boris' handling of the pandemic?
Brexit - Good idea.
Boris's Handling Of The Pandemic - who cares?

Yes, but that has to be weighed up against the other scenarios. Liverpool’s counter there might for example be “ok then, £45m release – but you’ll have to pay £30m rather than £25m”.

If the alternative to agreeing to the ask is to not get the player in at all, and the only risk to us in agreeing is losing out on some profit, I think we agree to it. In a perfect world there would be no such clause. But if that’s what it takes to get a player otherwise unavailable to us, on a permanent deal, without breaking our other financial criteria, I’m ok with it.

I get what you are saying and it's up to how much Wilder wants the player, to me I'd tell Liverpool to fuck off unless we're going to make a minimum of £10m profit.

It's no risk to Liverpool, they pocket say £18m before add ons and he's off the wage bill. If he turns into a quality player they get the add ons taking it to £25m and get him back super cheap by paying us back our money with a bargain £5m on top (which a good chuck is covered by not paying his wages for a few seasons).

If he's a flop or gets injured we're out of pocket for the initial fee and 4 years worth of wages. It's just far too one sided to me.

If this lad and balogun come in you’re looking at a situation where we have 5 strikers under the age of 25 with the sixth slot open long term for development prospects. This window could solidify our strike force for the next 5 years allowing funds to be used going forward to identify and recruit quality options in centre mid and centre back. I personally can’t fault United’s mid to long term transfer planning and am very excited.

Just read the Yorkshire Live review. They suggest he’s more interested in the Arsenal lad and we’ve gone cold on Brewster.
Wilder probably wants both with Mousset's injury, with Balogun being (until bid rejected) a cheap back up/one for future.

It would certainly shut up a few nobheads on here...how they get out of bed in the morning is beyond me!

I doubt he will want another striker because Mousset is injured. The whole point of having 5/6 strikers is that you can cover for these types of scenarios.

I think he's probably been down this road before where it becomes clear the players heart isn't set on it & he finds out the players agent is trying to generate other interest. Suspect that's why he's quickly moved on.

Must be a generational thing - 60 year old born & bred in Barnsley (living in Slumderland - home of the 'metric martyr' etc etc) I' m purely a pounds shillings pennies bloke - none of this metric ( European) 'shite'

Ahhh I see, you loved my 'Tonnage' as a unit to quantify parts of a modern conurbation. I'm glad I brightened your day. I wasn't sure if there was a piss take in there 😂

That's an incredibly impressive highlight reel for a 20yr old!!

The fact is that he’s their player - they are entitled to demand whatever they like for him. It’s up to us to decide if we agree to that. If they want a buy back then we might have to accept that - the fee we pay will be a sunk cost by then, we might not make a huge profit but it’s still money you can respend. You could view it as paying 5 - 7m a year to loan him then selling for 25m...

There’s is also a middle scenario - where he’s good - A top half player - good for 10/15 goals a year but not quite good enough to Tempt them to buy him back. In that case we get a good quality PL striker for a ‘fair’ price.

Will we be going back once Brexit is completed? ponds / shillings / feet / inches / fluid ounces

Well it's trending on Twitter.

I see this as irrefutable proof that...

I'm hoping if we're paying £25M, that exact conversation has taken place, as it's at least £5-10M over the odds to my mind.
So we wanted to pay £15M, they wanted £25M and we've agreed but with a £50M buy back.* <= Totally plucked out the air figures**

I agree, he's Liverpool's player so we've got to offer a deal which is acceptable to them. No problem with that.

If we're paying £25m with add ons, then that's a record transfer for us and easily the market rate (if not over) for a player like Brewster. I just think Liverpool are taking the piss if we've little chance of making much profit from a buy back and they should go looking for some other mug to take that deal.

We went metric when you were 11 years old.
