Again though, I’m not saying any of these things are insurmountable and that they mean we can’t sign players at all. I can see the argument regarding London, but for the rest I'm not having it. Villa, Leicester, Newcastle, Burnley, Wolves, Southampton all seem to manage to sign players

Let’s face it, if the money is right and it’s a decent career move (sometimes that won’t even be a factor), then you can attract players.

Who really wants to live in China and play in their league if you ain’t Chinese?

Firstly, last time I checked Villa played in Birmingham, which is considered by many to be England’s second city (a claim challenged by Manchester).

Secondly, again I’m not saying that NO ONE WILL SIGN FOR US BECAUSE WE ARE BASED IN SHEFFIELD. That’s patent nonsense, as we’ve clearly managed to sign players. However, what I am saying is that there are other clubs in the league who - all other things being equal - would have an advantage when trying to recruit young, wealthy men because of their location and the trappings those locations offer. When you add in our wage structure, the fact that we’re spending money on infrastructure (a la Burnley) in the hope that we can improve off the pitch as well as on and make ourselves more sustainable, and the fact that we’re in just our second season in the top flight, it all makes it far more difficult to bring in players of the quality we can all see we need. Not impossible, but certainly harder.
Lampard, for instance, has the financial backing, the recent history, the pull of London and Champions League football to dangle in front of potential players. I’m not saying we’re fishing in the same pond, but it’s increasingly difficult to recruit the players we need. That’s just an objective fact.
 
According to BBC Football Gossip, Liverpool thinking of putting bid in for Thiago during last week of transfer window.
Maybe that's the domino that needs to fall?
 
For some foreign players, I can see London being a big attraction, for British, Irish and some other nationalities I doubt the location is much of a factor.

I think stature of club, potential to be successful as a team/individual, first team opportunities and of course wages are far more important.

There’s tonnes of nice places around there to live. Dulwich Village is one but there’s a fair few more. Crystal Palace itself (though not where CPFC play) also nice. And actually close proximity to Croydon isn’t a bad thing at all for a young person. I may or may not be a south Londoner though.

I agree with the majority of your post but I must take exception at a couple of points. Firstly, Birmingham is the second largest city in the country but it's a shithole. In no way do the fact that it's big encourage wealthy young men. Secondly, location will make us slightly less attractive than some teams, but I think, salary, potential, playing time, and development are of more importance to players.

Hope by then we still seem an attractive proposition results wise.
 
I don’t understand why people need to make ignorant statements about other cities, which just make them seem stupid to anybody who knows.

The area around Centenary Square in Brum, with the theatres, restaurants, international convention centre, symphony hall and spectacular new library make Sheffield seem prehistoric. The Royal Ballet is based at the Hippodrome. The area around the canals is a great place to wander around, eat and drink. According to my kids the club scene in Brum is as good as anywhere in the country.

Don’t get me wrong, I would live in Sheffield in a heartbeat - but because of the people.

But I’m afraid if I were a 20- year old millionaire London, Manchester or Birmingham would probably be my choice.

Iv'e heard migrants that were placed in Birmingham got back in their boats and paddled back to France.
 
Birmingham is a cracking city, lived there for 10 years through Uni and beyond. Not Sheffield, but then it's not Manchester either, or any other large metropolis. It has tonnes of beautiful places, top bar / club scene, great cultural venues. It also has some shitty bits. So not unlike any other large Metropolis.
 

In all seriousness, Birmingham is a dump.

And Selhurst Park is so hard to get to, Brewster's agent would probably give up and turn the Lexus around.

(Brewster can see his path to starting regularly is now clearly blocked by Watkins and Batshuayi at those clubs)
