Did no one remind him that he’s from London when he chose to leave Chelsea for Liverpool?

Bit different though. We're not Liverpool.

Even taking location out of it, Palace will surely look the better option to the lad. I'm struggling to think of things that what would sway him our way.

Probably left Chelsea due to the fact they loan their young players out for years. Lucas Piazon is still on fucking loan!

How about: bigger club: better prospects: nicer place?

Bigger club - quite marginal. To a 19 year old lad, Palace have the better recent history. We've only been in this division one other time in his lifetime and we were relegated. He'd have been 7. There's also no fans in stadiums so I don't think (where a loan is concerned) this would be a factor. There's no atmosphere in any stadiums..

Better prospects - disagree. We're not a good attacking side at this level. At Palace he'd have Eze, Zaha, Benrahma & Batshuyai around him. Far more opportunities to get amongst the goals.

Nicer place - to a 19 year old Londoner that's earning very good money for his age? Not really.

May aswell pack it up hadn't we, we're shit, Sheffield's shit, ground's shit, kit's shit. No-one will want to come because Leeds exist, and Manchester isn't far away.

We should just try and negotiate a shirt sponsorship deal with Dignitas and get relegated meekly before we all fly to Switzerland.

That’s taking things a bit far, but you have to admit that for your average young footballer, Sheffield is less of a pull than other big cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds. Obviously that doesn’t mean that we absolutely can’t bring players in, but it does put us at something of a disadvantage when it comes to attracting them.

If you're going there for the next 4 years maybe.

Us on loan during a pandemic when you can't do much anyway? Can't see how we're a worse option than Palace.

I’m not being unnecessarily negative, just realistic. If he’s from that neck of the woods, it might be that his family and mates are still there.
Personally I’d rather be educated football-wise by CWAK than Hodgson, but that’s me. It might be that he’s swayed by the fact that Palace have been established in the Premier League for longer than us, and he doesn’t have the minerals for a potentially long and hard season. I dunno. All I’m saying is that Sheffield, and Sheffield United, aren’t necessarily the El Dorado that some of our fans seem to think they are. That’s not negative, it’s realistic.

I know its not like these players can afford cars to make the long drive from Manchester or Leeds to Sheffield.

Fucking hell. Some people might not want to do that. I commuted to Birmingham from Derby every day before lockdown and it did my head in. Just because something is possible doesn’t mean it’s desirable. Have you ever done the drive from Sheffield to Manchester? Fuck doing that every day.

Don't think they would be doing it during rush hour.

I’m sure they wouldn’t, but I still suspect that it would soon get wearing - especially during the winter months when a single snowflake shuts the Snake Pass for three days.
Again though, I’m not saying any of these things are insurmountable and that they mean we can’t sign players at all. They’re just extra obstacles that make our recruitment team’s jobs that bit more difficult, and despite what some of the armchair experts on here say, it’s not as easy as just chucking money at it and bringing in a striker who’ll score us 20 goals a season. I honestly can’t see why people don’t get this.
