I think Ramsdale summed it up in his interview when he said ‘we opened up more than we have recently’. They had a go and it was noticible that we were more attacking. Not saying anyone is going to take the job but it was good to see some decent performances today. Yes we lost but was good to see some more forward thinking. Anyone that doesn’t see today’s performance as a step in the right direction obviously has to get to specsavers.
Much less of Ramsdale smashing everything played back to him onto Mcburnies head. We tried to play a bit from the back and in many ways went back to what we tried to do pre-lockdown. We've lost faith in our ability to do that recently, but I guess that's what happens when you get done every week. We're going to have to start finishing if we want that to become the norm, because endless narrow defeats suck the confidence out of anyone

Yes, very

But what's the excuse for them not being replaced
But you were suggesting 20,000 had fucked off the club due to poor performances which isn’t probably true. Rather them giving up the club it was more that their bodies had given up on them.
Don’t go if you’re no longer interested or because you’ve decided we’re shit, but don’t claim you are following 20,000 others who’ve aren’t going for the exact same reason. It’s a football match not an outdoor performance of Weekend At Bernies.

It won’t be Heckingbottom. You listen to that interview with Ramsdale and he’s calling him “Hecky” not the customary “gaffer”. There’s no expectation by anyone at the club that he’ll be manager at the start of next season.

I'd go as far as to bet money that he won't be.

I like him, I like how he talks. But I'd really be seeing him going back to the 23's where he is doing some good work. Whoever is the new manager, I'd be keen for them to keep Hecky in that role as it will be important for their continuity and just as importantly, he's done fuck all wrong.

1st half yesterday was hideous and an example of what we have been like for 90% of this season. We were compact and reduced chelsea to minimal efforts but lacked any composure on the ball and couldnt keep possession so hoofed it back down the pitch when we finally got the ball back. Like a shit stoke. Useless in possession but organised out of it.

Second half we actually looked like we wanted to play football and took the game to them, were much more aggressive and purposeful and showed composure on the ball. Tried to dictate the game much more.

yesterday was a huge improvement on recent weeks people mention leicester as the worst game of the season but i could put 5/6+ in that same basket of performance, Southampton & Fulham recently were just as bad if not worse considering the oppo.

i have no issue if we get relegated playing like we did in the second half and we lose 3/4 nill, i do have a reall issue with whatever that non-league, agricultural rubbish we served up in the first half and have been churning out for months.

When they really try this team can still put in a performance thats comparable to much of last season!

Yes, why not ?
I've done my bit of clapping for 35 years, the last 8 or 9 I'll take them or leave them.
If they don't impress me they can foxtrot Oscar.
If they're worth watching I will watch.

And considering that when I first started watching they would have had absolutely no problem in selling a 45,000 - 49,000 stadium out on the odd occasion when a really important game came along, but are now down to the bare bones of basically only having 27,000 - 28,000 fans left that they can call upon, I think it's safe to say most people have thought they can foxtrot Oscar over the years as well

The biggest attendance I can recall was just over 40k when it was mainly standing, so you’re exaggerating at the top end for your own reasons. Why not mention the 68k v Leeds in 1936, where have they all gone?

Our current capacity is just over 30k and we sold out every game last season, we even restricted season ticket sales, we could have sold more.

There probably aren’t that many teams that fit your demanding standards, certainly none locally, you may end up having to travel some distance, hope that’s acceptable.

It’s an old forum trope for people to come on here and say they’re done, they’ve had enough, that they don’t care anymore.

Plenty did it in league 1. Most didn’t go very far. All deserved a thorough piss taking for their self indulgent, woe-is-me, share-my-pain performances.

If someone’s really going to stop caring, they mostly do it quietly over time. Come on here to do it for the audience, and accept you’ll get laughed at.

And so it begins. Forget a lifetime in football, with almost unblemished success.

Take a team and improve on a 5-0 drubbing, yet still lose. Talk well in the press. Total duration - 1 week. Why not give him the job then?

You couldn’t make it up.:)

People are desperate for a hot take even if it means making something up.

Saying “there were some encouraging signs second half” simply won’t cut it these days.

What the Chelsea game did was serve to remind us of everything we all already know: some of our players sadly have to go, some of our newer ones have genuine promise and that if we get the next few purchases right we will have the core of a team that could have a real go in the championship again.
The harsh reality of playing with the big boys up on the top field is that clubs like ours have to run very fast just to stand still. Our first season back we did this and with style, our second we just couldn't.
One thing I won't miss about the Premier League is all those premature ejaculation celebrations I had to do only to have our goals disallowed by VAR - my legs just aren't up to it anymore.
Yours sincerely, master of stating the bloody obvious.

Anyone in any doubt about Wilder possibly losing the dressing room must accept that today was a revelation. Every player, including Lunny, up for it. Excellent performance and we really should have scored 2. No need for wholesale clearouts, and Hecky might be our man?
That cross of Lundstrum's was sublime (unless he actually meant to hit it into the stands of course) it's just a shame it didn't bring some friends to the party.

Not the point I was making

The point is that when a 40,000 stadium gets mentioned on here it is dismissed because we'd never fill it.

But until quite recently our stadium held 49,000

The fans used to be there, they might not have turned up every week because we were always shit, but they could be called upon in massive numbers if the match was important enough.

Now they don't exist anymore, that indicates that the club is dying, bit by bit, generation by generation it is dying,

I know it doesn't bother the bigger blades who will watch us in the bleeding Conference, but it should do.

It's nearly 50 years ago since it held that many.

Before the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989

But we'll done again, another one totally missing the point.

Other clubs have stadiums that have increased in size or remained similar in size.

They also have millions of armchair fans all over the world who are unable to get in the stadium who are big contributors to the club in other ways, buying subscriptions, merchandise, etc.

United haven't even kept it's traditional fan base in it's own backyard in it's own city.

Hence the need for a smaller stadium than they've traditionally had before

ive been going to the lane for nearly 60 years think biggest crowd ive been in is either the 43k against cardiff in 71 or the game against wednesday in 80 think there might have been 45k for that one but not certain silent or hodgy will put me straight on that lol

Who knows how many were actually there for certain games

All I know is I've been in one or two dangerously High attendances that would have been more the norm if United were ever good enough.

The point is, the fans were there

Now they are not,

The club has failed to even keep support from within it's own city because if a 40,000 stadium was built we'd not fill it even as a Premier League club

That's the damage done by years of doing it the BLAAAAYYYDDESS WAAAHHHYYYY

We were decent today - accepted.

What I’d guard against is that creeping habit of adding far too much significance to recent / short term performance.

Heckinbottom be a great manager, so might you, or I. But there’s little evidence for either, and we shouldn’t start looking for it where none exists.
Heckinbottom dosent wan the job he loves coaching under 23 he says

An American view of our historic stadium which we are never going to leave.

Good read that Bert

It's our home, it's really that simple. Every Blades memory I have has one common theme. My Uncle taking me to my first game, the lads I used to stand with on the Kop. Taking the late Ms Crab in a (partially successful) attempt to show her there's more to life than Ice Hockey. The whole thing, win or lose, one thing remains consistent. Home.

I'm monumentally shit at letting things I love go.................

What if it was Marcus Bent? ;)

Bert would support Wednesday. 😁
Just googled old Flappy arms to see what hes up to ,his life really did go down the shitter ,from playing for us and shagging Danielle Lloyd and Gemma Atkinson through to not getting a game for Wick and joining Cornard United via ,mental health issues, arrests ,drug use and bankruptcy :(

Bramall Lane was not filled between 1962 (Burnley FA Cup Quarter final) and 1990 Man Utd FA Cup quarter final).

Revolution Sr was there. It was rammed, but it was 57,000 odd I think.

That's the second highest crowd since the war. the highest was just shy of 60,000 for the QF v Wednesday 2 years earlier, when they put temporary stands on the cricket pitch to raise capacity.

Jesus Christ !!!!!

It was filled more than a 32000 stadium is now

It held more people in It, and it was capable of being filled/almost filled/ nearly full/ quite full/ reasonably full

It isn't the point
The point is if we built or extended our stadium back to its traditional 50,000 there are not enough people in existence with Sheffield United in their minds for the stadium to be anything remotely similar to being full.

In the past it was possible because the fans existed, all it needed was a good club to follow.

Now it's gone forever because we get fewer and fewer young supporters from each generation growing up supporting the club, due to the clubs overwhelming shitness

I appreciate the discussion but am obviously being a bit thick in not understanding your point. There isn’t a club in the country, with our recent league record, that can fill a 50k stadium. If we were a top 10 PL team with regular European qualification, I’d have no doubt that we’d hit 50k for most games - the City, and our fan base is plenty big enough. I couldn’t see any PL games because I couldn’t get a ticket. Yes, I know, I could have bought a season ticket but I’d find the 12 hour round trip a bit much so I’m obviously not a true Blade.
What, I think, you’re conflating, is the performance on the pitch with attendance. Of course they are linked but, if the former improves, the latter will take care of itself. Gate receipt revenue is a modest proportion of income at the PL level. The King Power holds 32k and Leicester aren’t too bad are they?
When people worry about the club being mortgaged into bankruptcy - building seating capacity for a team that can’t survive in the PL would be crazy. Only Newcastle stand out as having a capacity of that size without being top 6 and they are unique. I don’t count West Ham as they inherited a stadium.

Totally disagree
We did not have sufficient seats available and subsequently had to restrict season ticket holders and there were constantly discussions on here about health and safety and the police restricting the number of match day seats we could occupy.
Difficult to confirm exactly how many we could have sold whilst in the premiership but every match was a sell out with waiting lists for any “returns”
