Retained/Transfer List

To be fair last season's retained list picked itself. Was very easy to do CW must have spent 20 minutes on it. Much harder this time round with some tough decisions on several borderline choices

I remember a post-match interview given by Wilder where he mentioned bringing a player on who then “ran into the opposition instead of playing the easy ball out wide”

It sounded like Brooks to me but watching the highlights back, it turned out to be Holmes. I think it was the Forest match.

CW sounded frustrated with him and it was quite unusual to hear him singling a player or a mistake out.

You'd also think Chris would be a bit more patient with him, after all it is a player adjusting to a higher level against better defenders and more competitive midfields.
Factor in his past relationship with the player and the time he spent pursuing him then it all just seems very odd.

It's another advantage of signing players in the Summer Transfer window rather than on 15th January.
Signed in the Summer they get to play in a whole host of pre-season friendlies and then there's always a couple of League Cup matches where fringe players can try and play there way in.
There haven't really been many opportunities for Holmes because every game has been a "must win" since he signed.
I think Wilder will stick with him over pre-season at least and he may still come good.

Confirmation that Reed and Long are under contract. That's good news.

No real surprises there. Although I would've kept Hanson, he's a joy to watch and I think he can get us 20 goals next season.

Is it really good news when Wilder has decided he doesn't want them? I know it says transfer or loan but presumably he wants them to go either way.

Realistically I don't think either are going to get a look in and we just need to make sure we get something for them. Or loan them out again.

Agree with them all. Expected Ched to be on there.

But with 8 players leaving and then the loan signings returning. We have some wriggle room.

Now we need a budget to see which markets we are aiming for.

Sensible decisions none of them are good enough for the championship we need to free up wages. Thanks for the efforts lads good luck to you all at your new clubs.

With the players made available for transfer i wonder how much money we will get from those? Cos that will probs be our transfer budget.

No mention of Wright. Isn't he out of contract?

Must have offered him a new deal, which I'd be surprised at as I can see his chances being even more limited this season.

Unless Wilder expecting bids for JOC....?

NO CHED EVANS????????????????????????????????
He makes up our 3 man strike force at present. It’s likely he’ll see put the last year with us next season by virtue of us not signing enough strikers.

How long has Chedwyn got left on his current deal ? I think it's time to let him find a club lower down tbh, he could do ok in L1 given a decent pre-season ;)

This all feels a bit non-committal really, doesn't it?

2 loanees gone leaves us about 33 players on the books.

Hussey and Donaldson, both out of contract are not renewed, taking us to 31.

The 5 players we had out on loan are unsurprisingly still not considered good enough to impact the first team.

The 2 players who didn't really get a kick all season, Carruthers and Heneghan are also made surplus.

Within that remaining 24 are Jake Bennett, Norrington-Davies and Regan Slater and Jake Eastwood.

It certainly doesn't hint at anything radical - upgrades on Lafferty and Wright for instance, question marks over Ched and Billy etc.

It feels like a 'wait and see' type list.

This, for me, is where the U23s come in. If (and I appreciate it's a big if) Semple, Graham, Norrington-Davies and Mallon are considered decent prospects should they not be utilised as cover rather than signing more established but arguably lower potential players?

Might as well keep them all, they will only be replaced by similar, if our squabbling owners and board have owt to do with it.

No real surprises on retained list. Donaldson was always stopgap. Times he was brilliant. other he's could be awful & other players like long reed lavery we just outgrown. But 1 thing im very curious is that it does make henegan a very odd signing. Highly rated when bought. But transfer listed after 1 fa cup appearance v preston

I would like to think Heneghan is going out on loan rather than being sold since he has only made 1 appearance.

Heneghan is a weird one. He's 24 years old - does he really need a loan? If he's not good enough to be competing for a first team place at that age (in a Championship team that plays 3 CBs in every game) is he ever going to be?
