We have an option to sign him and the “Star” says he will sign and may commit to more than one year.
But nothing has been officially announced
Not fussed about Jairo staying. A midfield with him/Peck/Rothwell/Blaster isn't getting us close to contending IMHO. Need mobility/athleticism/presence/power and goals/creativity. None of these 4 offer this so I'd like a brand new pairing personally, admittedly unlikely due to finances.

Both Rothwell and Jairo are on similar salaries, if it was a choice I know which I would prefer. Unsure if Peck will be offloaded but he only has 2 years left on his contract so if it’s not this season, he will be cheaper next season if he doesn’t sign.

Peck's the only one I'd want to keep from that list. Jairo's a calming influence but neither dynamic nor a game changer, Rothwell plays in very short spurts and we can't carry passengers. I didn't get all the hype with Blaster pre-injury where I thought he was too slow to be top class. If he comes back next season without improving a lot he might be one of our own, but he won't be a very good one.

Me neither, doesn’t impress me at all, ponderous, can’t sprint, hardly a box to box type, plays in a 30 yard circle. There was a reason no one else was interested before us throwing ridiculous money around. I’ve just watched Kovacic in his latter years, now there is a midfield player.

Football is about opinions.
But regarding Jairo. Id be happy for him to stay. Ok He doesn't have pace. But as has been mentioned he is a calming influence. He reads the game well and breaks up play. He passes and holds the ball well.
If he can last 90 minutes I think he'll be an asset.
Just my opinion.

Those with contracts will be staying until we decide to sell them .

Loanees will be sent packing

And whatever is announced will give no indication of what the squad looks like in 2 months time .
Probably a good 3 and a half months before we’re scrambling around for what’s left after everyone else is done.

More than just you with that opinion to be fair, Jairo is excellent at doing the “unfashionable” things like breaking up play and playing the short balls. Yes every now and then Hamer may come up with a screamer and Jairo will never do any of that. Sometimes you just need players to do the basics well and build a foundation around the spine of a team

Which makes the signing of Rothwell even more baffling.

Speaking to people at the club the gossip is the option hasn’t been taken up.

I can believe it on Jairo to be fair mainly because of cost, salary wise. I don’t know how long we have been after Rothwell for before he signed but it seemed like Wilder wanted him in his club, Jairo was signed as available and needed. It depends on Gus really, as if they offloaded him that would free up wages for Jairo and reduce to overall wage bill. The problem we have is having Bamford, Gus, Rothwell and Jairo at over £30k each a week we also had Mee and Ings in that bracket too. Without getting rid of the high earners we can’t stay under the rules. Luckily Rothwell, Gus and Bamford only have next season left on their contracts it’s how we cope when we really need to scrape the barrel next season if we have the money to extend any.

Looking at these new rules, it will be very hard for non parachute teams to compete. It will also reduce the transfer fee's paid for players.

Going to increasingly incentivise a sign and develop approach it’ll favour clubs with productive academies and who are able to sign and develop. We have the first of those things although I think we’ve had a golden generation which isn’t going to continue indefinitely. We desperately need to show we can be a club which can sign and develop players again something we arguably haven’t done since Wilder MKI

Yep - lose Peck and you can kiss goodbye to any pace in midfield , keeping our transition just as slow & boring as it's been for ages.
Brooks is wasted on the RW as was Hamer on the LW.
Both could be tried in the engine room but I doubt Hamer has the energy for it.
If he stays and returns to preseason having failed to get any more athletic , I'd sell him before the deadline.
Throw in Shackleton for free to sweeten the deal.
We absolutely need another Peck-type leader in midfield , but with more idea about going forward.
How we finance that I don't know.

Depends if the rules are enforced like they have been with the pigs , Leicester , ManCity & Chelsea.
Or like with Bury , Luton etc.

But if they are enforced fully , it won't be long before the PL is a closed shop of 23 clubs , with 3 of those clubs who finish 21, 22 & 23 , doing a season in the Championship as a kind of temporary demotion , being re-promoted no matter what , the following season and the 3 bottoms coming down for their one-season stint in the Championship.

The highest-finishing non-parachute club will "win" the Championship - id like to see us have a go at doing that before I die. Just for sentimental value , if nothing else.

All sounds a bit far-fetched ?
When PL clubs are owned by oil-states ?
Watch this space !

What position are you suggesting Brooks should play in? (Not criticising, just want to understand your thoughts)

I know we are talking different territory but Premiership (Prem) Rugby has just become a closed shop for relegation with the aim of promoting 2 more clubs when they hit criteria. In their cases they are waiting for Worcester and Wasps to be back.

In some ways I don’t have a problem with a breakaway Premier League in football mainly because of the gap in finances now is so large and I could see it happening or maybe in a similar way to how Scotland Premiership split, it could be top 10 championship and bottom 10 Premier league or something.

However if they did fully split I would like the EFL League cup to not include the Premier League and “promote” the National league to create a League 3. The Premier League would be a closed shop almost with franchising with oil money and the EFL has promotion and relegation. Although the Premier League should be the dream realistically its not been that fun on too many occasions so you do start to wonder why do we want to be there.

KMC I wonder if that increases the likelihood of Phillips coming back? We don't need Rothwell, Jairo and Phillips but we could do with 2 of them. You add them to Blaster and Peck (or his replacement ) and that will be our CM fornnext season I suspect. Desperately lacking in athletisism but functional.

I've got a fairly open mind about where to use Brooks pace & talent , apart from the fact that I'm against inverted wingers unless their weaker foot is at least decent - and I think he struggles on the RW.
I think it's great that we have a good young L-footed player and I like the fact that despite being an attack-minded lad , he is competent at getting back and tackling.
I'd like to see him tried on the left side of midfield , whether wide or central , I don't mind.
Given that we will be skint this summer and our midfield looks pretty average , I think we should be developing Brooks with a view to him possibly being an ACM - we certainly can't afford to buy one !
Ps - it's sad but I just don't see Blaster regaining his prior form & career trajectory - great shame but that injury has taken something away from him.
Hoping he can surprise me.

Let the big 6 sod off and form an ESL and much of the money driven corruption disappears with them tbh
Still no retained list though
After watching the highlights of the past 2 Celtic matches I believe that football is fixed, Manchester Utd have shall we say have had the rub of the green, there’s nothing sacred can’t they keep their mucky paws off our sport and keep them on politics!

If we're not taking up the option on Jairo as Wilder thinks Slothwell can do that role then he really has lost the plot completely.

It wouldn't surprise me at all tbh.
