What's it all about? There's often talk of giving teams too much respect. But what does it actually mean?

Does it mean we stand off them and give em too much space? Or maybe we don't get in their faces enough....

Whatever it is, and please somebody spell this out for me, we shouldn't do it, should we?

I think it means playing with caution because of what the other team are capable of.
It makes sense to a point, play recklessly against a lesser team and they could turn you over. That's showing too little respect.
But sit back and give a decent team enough time on the ball and you'll probably lose, that's showing too much respect.

Without being arrogant, I can't see any side in this division this season who we should give too much respect to. We need to play our game and do our thing, let them work it out.
Then again, we shouldn't be too slack either or we end up with disasters like Fleetwood and Crewe at home.

To me it means not approaching the game like you are going to walk all over the opposition.

It doesn't effect in game tactics at all it's just simply in interviews, in the press before the game etc.. and just making sure the impression you give to lesser teams is right. I think it is key to reducing the pressure on yourself during the game and coming out with the best result.

Teams like MK Dons were a fine example of this last season.

Teams should be giving us respect as it normally happens when a small club and squad with minimal resources play a decent sized club with more resources than them, they normally end up in awe of a club like ours in this division but end up normally playing with an higher tempo with more effort, it's up to us with more resources than these sides to put them to the cleaners and stop fucking about. So in short, yes, you're right, we should not be giving anyone too much respect, do the opposition sides give it us?

A club like ours should be getting the respect in this league but we have to earn it.

Respect or fear factor ? Man C or Chelsea will command more respect than for example Torquay United simply because they have better players who will punish any mistakes. Really it is all about what we do and making sure we give 100% effort and concentration whoever the opposition. Do that and and you can't ask much more of your team the rest will take care of itself over the season and you will find your level.

Caution/ Respect for the opposition - it's when your full backs aren't allowed to join the midfield and when your midfield aren't encouraged to join the striker/s until late in the game, even in home games.

Why do managers do it? Probably because they don't respect their own defenders to do a proper job. Probably a belief that the opposition will lose their way over the course of the game and opportunities will come. The irony is that the opposition gain increasing confidence the longer they are still in the game.

There's a balance to strike, as in everything.

During pretty much the last 2 and a half seasons, we have been guilty of a horrendous lack of confidence, not treating teams with too much respect.

What we need to be doing is going at teams from the off, putting teams under the cosh, and applying as much pressure as we can.

It seems like most home games have all seemed to pan out the straight way during the time period I have already said. Slow and sluggish start, opposition realise they can get something and become a lot more confidence. The Lane gets restless

I think we'll show plenty of arrogance in our play this season. Play the game and make them worry about what we're going to do.

Obviously we'll have to adapt to different situations but it's what I expect to see from us this time around.
