rumours that lyle taylor is signing for scunny next week so we are clearing out the players as required. hope he doesn't come back to haunt us in the usual way, we always screw up at scunny as it is!
some suggesting sam winnall may come to us, but i knew little about him apart from that he scored goals last season. looked on wikipedia and he hasn't scored many previously and was released by wolves after several loan spells.
i'm not saying we shouldn't sign him, particularly if nigel thinks he'll do a job, but he is another one who is under 6 foot, like mcnulty (and ched!!) so if winnall was brought in as our new forward that would still leave porter as our only tall player up front and to come back for set pieces., which may mean that once again he'll get more games than i anticipated

BBC Radio Humberside just announced that terms have been agreed and it should go through today. Undisclosed fee.

McNulty is 6"2 and Ched 6"1 I think. Both blessed with pace and power so I don't see the problem here. Not that we've signed Ched!

McNulty is 5'10"
Evans is 6'0"

Livingston fans have said before that McNulty isn't blessed with great pace but is fairly quick off the mark. Same goes for Ched I'd have said.

Look on the bright dide Latters, either Nigel has something better in the works, or Taylor's work ethics or attitude didn't fit the Clough mold. Otherwise, like everyone else, he would have had his chance.

Im disappointed Taylor never got a chance under Clough. I think he would have done well in our attacking team whilst confidence was high.
Mark my words, selling this lad is a mistake.

I was under the impression that he hadn't settled in Sheffield and that a move back up North was best for all. Which is why a move to scunny both surprises and angers me a bit.

Doubt you would settle in Scunny lad if you found Sheffield a bit trying !!!

I'm fairly confident this will have zero impact on how we fair next year. He might do ok at Scunny - but I'm quite confident Clough knows what he's doing.
As am I with Cloughs overall judgement and there may well be something in the "attitude" that just doesn't quite fit.

But I also think he could be a prolific L1 player but hope I am wrong. Just a hunch !

Cheers mi dears.

I promise not to bring it up once the lad hits 20 goals !!

Why not I would and have a big spoon for the humble pie you'd be serving.
Don't think he'll do it myself though , don't think he's good enough to do a Billy to be honest .
Chaff is well and truly being sorted out .

Don't think there was owt wrong with Taylor's attitude. A mate had it direct from the horses mouth that when Clough took over Taylor wanted to turn out for the under 21s but the new manager blocked it saying he was saving for Saturday for the first team, then didn't start him.

Probably just a case of Cloughy not fancying the player, which is fair enough. Personally I liked what I saw of Taylor (admittedly I didn't see all his games for United) and thought neither Weir or Clough gave him a fair run of games in the team.

The second half vs Coventry and home game vs Port Vale were the only times I thought we actually could have a player on our hands. Other than that I thought he looked like a very poor striker. I'm perplexed to see so many people feeling that this will be a bad move for us. I for one believe his level is much below the one we're already at and Scunthorpe have taken another poor player off of us after Williams. Anybody who doesnt trust Clough must need their brain examined.

getting rid of both Brandy and Taylor must free up about 4k a week in wages. If we can find a home for McGinn then this will help to get a striker like O'Grady, Sharp etc; this way, you don't have to sell Harry to get one

I wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor score twenty goals for Scunthorpe next season, I think he has the potential to be a decent player and Scunny seem to have an uncanny knack of bringing out the best in strikers who've failed to live up to their billing at other clubs.

So long as he doesn't score against us then I'd like to see him succeed, but the fact is he rarely produced the goods in a Utd shirt and next season we need a proven goalscorer who will perform at a consistent level week in week out and it was therefore the right decision to let him go.

Anyway, if he does come good we can always buy him back in a couple of years for ten times the undisclosed fee we get for him ;)

Correctly assessing a players abilities is something even the pros get wrong at times, so here's a mere amateurs assessment of Lyle Taylor - Work ethic very good, willing to run challenge and chase. Ability, limited, looked like he needed to play out of his skin every game to make any sort of impression. No loss ( but what do I know :)).

Didn't see enough of him to form a proper opinion. That was the problem. He would never prosper in a Weir team and by the time Clough had to rescue us, he didn't fit what was needed in his set up. Feel a bit sorry for the lad. Personally I think he will do well in L1.

On a separate note, as Clough has just got rid of three of last seasons black players, has he ever signed a black player? Are we the only team that is all white AND UK born?

I really don't understand where this sort of comment comes from. Here's a question I could pose to you: have you ever been to the official site or paid any attention to players we sign? If the answer to both is yes I'm struggling to understand why you are asking this question, given one of the first signings Clough made this pre-season is black.

Hill, Brandy and Taylor were all players that needed moving on. Should Clough decide to part with Doyle given our new midfield signings I hardly think it'll be because he's got it in for the Irish either.

I am trying very hard to pay attention but quite often senility and alcohol gets in the way. Now just remind me, who has he signed so I don't have to trawl back through the official site which I avoid due to technical issues like its crap on an I pad.

OK slightly woke up. JCR forgot him as it was so low key.

Only asked a question LB. A response of "what about JCR you stupid Dildo" would have been sufficient.

Whereas 2mins of searching would have saved asking the question.

This is not the Sheffield Forum the last time I looked and not every thread needs to have some veiled racial context.

Isn't JCR black? Provided that players are signed for footballing reasons, for me they can be all colours of the rainbow and anything in between;)

Having never been on the Sheffield Forum I wouldn't know what you mean. In future I shall keep my early morning musings to myself and if I have the remotest interest I will just google "black players Nigel Clough has signed".

Congratulations, you just learned 2 internet
