Removing the sponsor off the Home Shirt. Anyone going to attempt it?

Yes very happy . I am not complaining and never stated I was. Just noting

Putting more money into the coffers as JHS is 100% behind the coming season like no other sponsor (especially in League 1) delighted to be snapping up boards round the ground more the better don't want any spare just like any club. Want to help us stand head and shoulders above our competitors in all aspects.

Have spent money today on advertising in programme as we want to tell people we sell every day cars not just exotica, that the average family / person in the street buys but that we are not a faceless organisation who is not interested in you. Our customers we class as friends and that the same attention to detail goes into the £10k focus we have advertised today as the £200k Ferrari.

As a sponsor unlike many we want to be involved with the proper passionate fans.

Any sensible suggestions you have to get involved we will consider.

UTB

Tony
Now if it were petrol and either red or white I might have had a slight interest Oh and I don't like 5 door cars it encourages the carriage of children and other free loaders. Shame they don't do a 3 door Focus any more

To be fair assuming our man from JHS to be a blade wouldn't you want to shout from the rooftops that you were sponsoring the club you love? It isn't always about the ego and while of course money is an objective sometimes you can get a sheer buzz from doing something that makes you want to tell everyone all about it. I know I would if it were my company.

Hope its a successful partnership that gets us promotion. That way everyone wins.

Fantastic that you're putting money into the club but from experience, advertising on the pitch side boards is a complete waste of time, you might aswell set fire to your money. When we did it, the company I worked for at the time had a board facing the TV camera when we were in the Premiership and we didn't have a single sale where the customer had seen our board at The Lane.

Not looking for sales just the recognition that local people (mainly) will more likely know who we are and what we do.

.... And personally if that funds a 20 goal plus striker then look forward to the banter in the championship. Hope you agree?

Brand awareness isn't just about sales. I would argue that as someone who had never heard of JHS before they are building the brand via shirt sponsorship and advertising, it's working already.. Ask your marketing department and prepare for wanting to nod off instantly when they answer.

Because those advertising boards that are on telly are not free?

Well duh, but you make it sound like you're doing the club a favour rather than a straightforward business transaction.

Answer me this:

As part of the extra money you've 'chucked in' do you expect to earn more back in sales?

I hope it gets us promoted to and looking forward to the season whatever it brings.

Assuming I'm a blade? well.......

First blades game...... Stood in kop in league cup against Preston, we won 3-1 circa 1990 scorer's I think Peter Duffield and Jock (Ian) Bryson scored think I sneaked in!

First game when I started going week in week out stood in kop but on corner as it turned round on to the John St, was when Brian Deane chipped Bruce G from halfway line. Much forgotten game as it was Mel Rees's debut on loan as Tracey and Kelly injured. RIP Mel Following week or so Glyn Hodges nearly repeated the ft against Arsenal when he hit bar from nearly half way line!

First game with the Missus think it was 01 might have been 02 Gillingham away Warnock in charge Pesch scored 1-1 that led to a run of not missing a game home or away for a yr, no kids including getting locked in at Wolves!!,,,,!,,

I am a Blade thru and thru and proud to be a sponsor

Great you know who we are and what we do. When I have a marketing dept I will go on holiday!

Let me get this right.

We have a sponsor on here who is a local fan, taking time to communicate with fans, investing money into the club (which we all know is dead money that is unlikely to yield a profitable return) and some are arguing that he might have an ulterior motive?

Out of interest Tony, are you looking at this becoming something that lasts over several seasons, or is it very much a one-season thing?

Have to say I had never heard of JHS before - I imagine for exposure it will be extremely useful. Certainly I wouldn't be aware of the existence of companies like Desun, HFS Loans, Midas etc had they not been on the front of the kit.

We are going to be a long term partner

No I expect no sales nor any return. Just exposure.

Right thanks. Don't get me wrong, despite being less than impressed with how the design of your logo and logotype looks on the shirt, i'm very glad we've got a local company on board. I want to wear the shirt with pride and tell people who ask who our sponsor is, and what they do.

I dislike however the subtle implication on your part (see below) that you're doing the club a favour. You're not, we've sold you advertising space on hoardings/ the front of our shirt and you've bought it. You've done that as a marketing exercise for your business. The investment you're making is for your business' sake, not SUFC.

If i've got this all wrong and as part of the deal you've actually bought a stake in SUFC too, then please accept my humble apologies.

What one of those sponsor's who wants to put considerably less money into our (my) beloved club from out of town who doesn't care?

He's bought advertising space, not a stake in the club. If it was a stake in the club then yes it probably would be dead money.

Can't the sponsorship be beneficial to both the club and the sponsor? Sufc get a decent, local partner and the sponsor gets the recognition it wants?

I don't think many of us had really heard much about the sponsor before so it's good to find out about them this way. Financially I'm sure the club could've got a sponsor like Wonga and raked in more money, but wouldn't be good for the clubs image.

So in a way JH Sales is ticking the right boxes for the club and the sponsorship is gaining exposure for JH Sales.

Obviously, it's a gamble for JH Sales to exclude 500 million Wednesday fans, but if they are looking for business outside of Sheffield then that shouldn't be an issue to them. I suppose the only other gamble is if we don't have much success, then their exposure won't be the same or worse still if we are crap or have an Anelka type situation then it may affect their reputation but it's unlikely.

It depends what you're selling. We sell environmental monitoring (water & dust emissions etc). Nobody is gonna buy that shit based on a stadium hoarding. Most buy it because they're forced to by the EA or their water authority.

Car sales is different. Everybody has or knows somebody that has a car. Eventually that car gets replaced. I drive past JHS everyday give or take and never paid attention to it. Now I've been on their website a few times already so something is clearly working.

Of course it's beneficial to both parties, otherwise why do it? Not sure what your point is.

SUFC have a product (Advertising space on the shirt and hoardings), and JHS have bought it. It's a regular straightforward business transaction. Some people seem to be confusing it with investing in SUFC though, when they aren't. The investment that they are making is to grow the JHS brand.

Deadly, i'm fully with you on this mate.
It saddens and annoys me to read such negative stuff from a number of members who seem keen on picking apart every post that has been put on here by our new sponsor.
Tony at JHS is making every effort to justify the reasons for putting money into the club, yet there seems to be an underlying suspicion about why he has chosen to do this. For fucks sake, it's his money, give the bloke a break.
We all have times when we feel the need to criticise the club but come on, we've had a new, globally recognised kit supplier and a local lad who's made good sponsoring our shirts for less than a month and already, every aspect of these deals have been pulled to bits.
"The stripes are too wide, the badge is stuck on instead of being sown on, the logo is in the wrong place, the training kit is crap, too expensive, the sponsors logo is awful, i'll design a new one, i'm gonna remove the sponsor on the back of the shirt, you're pissing money down the drain by sponsoring the club" etc etc .
We have so much to look forward to this season and beyond, both on and off the pitch, why is there so much apathy and negativity?

Well they are investing. People think that the club now have a bottomless pit of money now that the prince is here. But the club still require financing.

Not all investments get or require a financial return

Because it's irrelevant?

Irrelevant or otherwise, it's wrong for some on here to question a Blade who wants to sponsor the club with money from his own business? If I was in the same position, i'd do exactly the same although i'd think twice about doing it again reading some of the comments he's received.
What next? "Hey Tony, you wanna stop selling them Ferraris and Porsches mate, there's no money in it and they're fuckin rubbish for getting a set of step ladders in".

The only thing i'm questioning is why some people seem to think this is anything other than a business transaction. We have advertising space on the shirt, and they've bought it. It's that simple.

Or "Eeeeeh no call for that flash Italian and German crap up here we don't need money we are happy to survive on muck n nettles thank you very much mr flash salesman."

I think there's a significant element of risk which may not have been acceptable to a non-committed businessperson. But without knowing the figures it's just my opinion.

For what it's worth I know Tony was a Blade when we were at school. :)

Have just read this thread for the first time. I cannot believe what I am reading. A local business man who is obviously a keen supporter has put money into the club by sponsoring the shirts and apparently also buying space on some advertising boards and people are having a debate about his motives and/or whether it is "an investment" or whatever and wingeing. The man and his company should be thanked and congratulated and not subjected to this ridiculous scrutiny and questioning by some contributors to this site. So thank you unreservedly JHS from me.

Liam, of course it's a business transaction, I don't disagree with you at all. What i'm disappointed at is the comments that have been made since the adidas and JHS deals were announced. The club cant do right for doing wrong can they?
Macron - the great Satan of kit makers according to some, so we cant wait to get rid. The club then brings adidas on board and as soon as the shirts are revealed, a number of posts immediately are produced over the most trivial issues. Seriously, do people lose sleep at night because the club badge is stuck on and may be an inch lower than normal on the chest?
Similarly, the club announce a local car dealership, owned by a couple of Blades fans, will be sponsoring the shirts, which with any club, is one of the major incomes of revenue it will receive. From day one, there has been a lot of soul searching by some supporters whether this is acceptable, in view that the logo on the shirt is deemed to be so poor in their opinion.

We are all experts in spending someone else's money, I just think the way that John Holland Sales are being perceived and the advice being given to them is disrespectful and patronising.
