It’s been 19 years today since he passed away fellow Blades and it’s down to him I’ve been a fanatical Blade ever since I always remember him holding my hand on the way to Ground my first match and our celebration as Doc Pace scored my first ever goal…Not a day goes by without me hoping he would walk through the door it doesn’t get easier does it

Nice tribute OB
The fact that it doesn't get any easier shows what a great Dad you had

I haven't experienced that particular pain yet, both my parents are still alive.

But my Dad is 86, and although still very fit, I find myself thinking about it every day.

You take them for granted and assume they'll be here forever when you're younger, but it's a very real and dreaded thought now, and it does seem to take a few minutes of every day

My mum was given 12 months five years ago, so everyone has been prepared... except her it seems, she's as tough as old boots, even though she doesn't know it

Have a great day of celebration, and let's hope the Blades do your old man proud

Sorry to hear that mate. Life is cruel isn't it? Enjoy the memories and utb.

A lovely post. People always say that life is more important than football; but for a lucky few, football and life go together, and the time shared with family is unique because of sharing the experiences together. Sad as today is for you, you have always got that Pace goal as a memory about much more than football.
(Which was your first match? Apologies if you posted about it before - the old memory is not what it was!)

It doesn't mate, I lost my dad 43years ago and he use to take me to the lane when I was a nipper, miss him loads.

Swansea at home Doc Pace scored within five minutes 1960

Hard to go without your loved one when you’ve spent a (footballing) life sat next to him / her. I still struggle. McAtee would have had my old man purring.

Enjoy the matches win or lose and the kinship of the company you keep and your fellow Blades. Never take it for granted. What a club we follow, the best there is.

You fill up my senses.

UTB x

Sorry it's still so raw, and it's good you've got it out on here. There'll be others who've got better advice than me, all I can say is try to enjoy the day as he'd want you to.
All the best mate UTB.

17 Sept 1960 probably. Won 3-0 v Swansea Town (obviously not a City in those days) in the old 2nd division.

Not a bad game or result for your old man to choose to take you for your first game! He may have moved on now but you will always have those treasured memories of him.

Celebrate the day mate in whichever way you see fit. Raise a pint to him to say thanks Dad, take a look at his favourite part of the ground, do whatever feels special to you today.

Oh and it goes without saying, 3 points today please you mighty Blades for all our fantastic fans, those still with us and those watching from upstairs

Bless you blade. ⚔️

I'm 30 years old and had a season ticket with my dad for 18 years, still would never change that and go with fake friends.

Memories forever x

It doesn't mate unfortunately.
When i use to comeback from home games whether a sat or midweek game, when i walked in the house mum would be sat in her chair listening to radio 3,2 or classic, she would always ask did we win.
Think i would have driven her barmy these last wonderful 4 years, esp listening to the away games on the sofa.
Sometimes she use to listen to rad sheff commentary of games as well.
RIP

That's a great tribute, to a great man by the sound of it.

Same sentiments from me as above, 3 points today will have your dad smiling down on us all.

I suspect that Dads are the reason why most of us are here on this forum. On some days you can't forgive them for the affliction they passed on to us, but on all days, you can never thank them enough for the inheritance.

I had the names of two generations of fathers etched into the brickwork at Bramall Lane. What I wouldn't give to have five minutes more with either of them.

I lost my dad 38 years ago. He took me to my first game in 1970 when I was a nipper, still remember that & subsequent games with him, home & away, great memories. I have a season ticket with my daughter now & I’m sure she will feel the same in the future about me & our times together watching the Blades.
I still think of my dad at every home game, especially when I look at the Kop & Bramall Lane lower where we used to stand.

My Died in 2012, he would have been 90 last Wednesday-we beat Sunderland. I have dedicated that win to him.
Great memories, get this sen down tu the front lad and come back at the end of the game. I got shot by Hodgy on many occasions.

I remember it as if it were yesterday. I salute all Dads looking down on us Bless Em.

Younger readers might not understand why you got shot by Hodgy frequently - and lived to tell the tale🤣
