Apparently the ref for the game is Cavanagh who has given 193 yellow cards and 7 reds this season - a premier league ref !
Shit !!

We’re more used to VAR and Prem refs than they are.

Key is to not give them the opportunity to be the main attraction.

Mixed record with Kavanagh - as you may expect given our record in the Prem hasn’t been the best. Last season he reffed our home loss against Forest (when he sent off Anel) and he also sent off McBurnie as we lost five nil to Burnley.

But he refereed our away win at Luton last season. And in the heady days of 19/20 he reffed our home thrashing of spurs when Berge, McB, and Mousset scored, and Kane got a late consolation goal.

Of course you're going to have a Premier League ref for the most high-stakes game in football, they're hardly going to drag Trevor Kettle out of retirement for it

VAR being used in the play off final of the championship where it hasn't been used at all is absolute bollox.

I don't like it, but I accept its part of the PL.

It just seems to ruin a good game.

That will be the Man City supporting CheatingCunt who tackled Fleck and should have been awarded the assist.

And in case anyone was wondering An assistant video assistant referee (AVAR) is a match official who helps the VAR primarily by: watching the television footage while the VAR is busy with a 'check' or a 'review' keeping a record of VAR-related incidents and any communication or technology problems. and assisting the VAR's communication with the referee, especially communicating with the referee when the VAR is undertaking a 'check'/'review' e.g. to tell the referee to 'stop play' or 'delay the restart' etc. Also recording time 'lost' when play is delayed for a 'check' or a 'review' and communicating information about a VAR-related decision to relevant parties.
According to the FA's Website.....

I think we need an AAVAR to monitor the AVAR and VAR to ensure they know what is going on and then just to be sure an AARDVARK Referee (An Assistant Referee Decision Video Assistant Referee Knowledge)

Isn't there VAR too?
VAR, semi-automated offsides and in-stadium announcements from the referee. Heady days.

If he refereed the 3-1 against Spurs then he (together with the VAR) was responsible for the ridiculous decision to disallow a Spurs equaliser when Lucas Moura was fouled and hit the ball with his arm as he fell.

I hate it and I'm happy to let bad calls even themselves out over a season for the sake of the game flowing better.
Howevever I agree with it being used in this one off game.
There's too much riding on the outcome to risk a bad refereeing call.

I still think it has to be a cricket style appeal process. If the players are genuinely convinced the referee has got it wrong, then they refer it or if the referee isn't sure. This helps with removing the nit picking that I couldn't care less about.
