Sorry if this has been mentioned on another thread, but what a nice refreshing change to see a referee letting the game flow. Apart from getting the Fleck goal wrong (for which he apologise), I thought he had a great performance. He let minor fouls go for both sides and that contributed to the free flowing game (in our favour admittedly). Kept his cards in his pocket and didn't want to be the star of the show. Wish we got more of this tyre of ref, makes such a difference on the game.

O

Personally I thought he made just one bad decision of not giving Wright a yellow/red or a freekick on edge of area when he caused a player to be substituted. Was a late tackle and looked as if he went straight through the player. Ref either gave advantage or no free kick and Moore made that excellent save.

Changed your view of coutts yet ?

Over all the ref did have a decent game but he got the big decision wrong, he was conned by the Vale keeper into beheading the deflection came off a blade, the lino did his job by telling ref a blade was offside but the ref was in a good position to dimiss the claim that was disappointing. Just shows how appealing can win you something out of nothing

He's playing really well at the minute, so yes. Thought it was close between him, EEL and Fleck for MOM (Fleck just shaded it for me). Not sure what Wilder has done to him, but hats off he's totally transformed him (he's even tackling and shooting now).

Bit of a harsh reaction, he could've just disallowed the goal surely?

Would have been extremely harsh to book Wright for the challenge.......it was O'Connell who made it

Having just watched the disallowed goals on You Tube, I suspect that Billy caused the goal to be disallowed. He clearly tells Fleck that he is claiming the goal because it came off him - based on that I can't criticise the ref for believing that it did, even though I thought he had got it wrong at the time.

But billy wasn't offside

Aye, agree with the OP, I thought the ref was very good. Yes, it was disappointing that the goal was disallowed so late after it went it, but it didn't affect us in the end. His attitude was great, really let the game go on, and was even-handed.

Last time United won 4-0 in a League game at home was 24 March 2015 & the referee was indeed Mark Heywood.

What a coincidence !!!
No doubt the Football League will conclude we are corrupt and deduct however many points it takes to deny us promotion!

Agree that overall the ref had a very good game. Probably the best I have seen this season. It's just a shame about the disallowed goal which was clearly not handled well. Sadly there is no way a ref can explain to the crowd why he had changed his decision to award the goal. Had he done so I think we would all have accepted it instead of booing him off at the end of the first half. Perhaps as in rugby when they do a TV replay everyone can hear what the ref is asking and the reason for the query and decision.

unrelated topic but darren deadman was ref at charlton vs coventry yesterday bet he loved that with all the fake pigs on the pitch
