Another one someone else snaffled. Middlesbrough Latte Lath. Swiss Super League St Gallen and Italian Atalanta, admittedly after a few lower league loans. Our Ivorian is 2 inch smaller and nearly two stone lighter and on loan to a French club where he has registered nowt of interest.

Mavididi at Leicester. Similar history. 6ft and a stone heavier. Both athletes with strength and skill.

Summerville at Leeds. Dutch. (Possibly Mallucan). Ex Feyenord. 21 goals in 71 as a little winger.

I know it seems like I’m beating the club up over recruitment, and I can’t fault them for trying Traore, Souza, Slimane and Larouchi. (Especially the latter 2 with their history) but how come ours go spectacularly wrong compared to others? And as for Grbic!? Pfft.

The truth of the matter is quite simple. We will barely have the financial means to survive in the championship. I do agree with wilder , that the next THREE transfer windows will be vital. If anyone thinks we will be spending sums on incoming players, I am sad to say we will be disappointed. As said, Archer , Souza, Anel will be gone, along with others soon to be known, if Wilder is correct. Parachute money????? Read hotel and new training facility, and other infrastrcture projects.
The days of the best league 1 coming to us has gone. The quality gap is as large as championship to premier, maybe even more so.
Recruitment will still leave us wanting, and I for one, do not want Wilder/Knill to go UK only.

A big part of our recruitment ‘problem’ this season is that we simply haven’t been able to shop for what we urgently needed. We could only afford to recruit for development potential - a risky business in itself, but a disastrous one when these players are thrown into an already lightweight, unfit, injury weakened and demoralised squad, where even those few that I thought might be up to holding their own in the Premier League have either sustained long term injuries, or seem to have given up.
That said, recruitment of Thomas ( even in an injury crisis), and Grbic is baffling.
I sincerely hope that we focus whatever resources we can scrape together this summer ( hopefully through the sale of Anel and Souza, plus the enforced return of Archer) on a few top quality Championship players, to add to the few that we already have, and use these as a core backbone around which to integrate youngsters and development players. We will need to run with a small squad - if we try to bulk up numbers by buying untested potential in quantity then we are in big trouble.

I see Wolves want to buy Doyle for 4.5 mill . Makes our buys in the summer look sick . Threw away millions in the summer on players that should not and will not be on the team sheets .

I am not sure what point you are making. Where is there any evidence that we will not “be spending sums on incoming players “ ?
Where is there any evidence that the considerable sums from parachute payments and any sales will be spent only on infrastructure projects ?
We don’t necessarily need the best from L1 just good young players capable of improving.

Summerville is indicative of a wider recruitment policy that Leeds took 3/4 years ago which is now paying dividends they began aggressively recruiting for their 21’s side bringing in young players from Europe that had come through very reputable academies but for whatever reason were available at pretty cheap prices. Summerville, Feyenoord Jospeh, Espanyol and Gnoto, Inter via the Swiss league. They also supplemented this with English players of a similar profile in Gelhardt and Greenwood.
Not all will work out but some will and when they do they’re very quickly worth a lot of money.

Whilst Slimane and Traore cost similar fees they don’t have the same background. Whilst there’s always the chance we find a rough diamond we’re taking a bigger risk imo based on the background of the players we recruited. Also Leeds had time to bed those players in before expecting a return on that investment whereas really we needed Slimane and Traore to contribute significantly this season if we wanted to stay up.

We've spent barely anything in the Premier League, so why would we suddenly start spending the season we see a sharp drop in revenue?

Were on a spiral down mate, just hope and pray somebody takes us over, and has got a better business sense than this bafoon what's running us now or we're sunk!

…because financially we are in a better situation and Championship standard players are cheaper than those able to cope with the PL

Understood but I’m unsure where this “one’s for the future” came from. I don’t recollect anyone from the club saying that’s what we were dabbling in. Larouchi for instance went straight in during the pre season in Portugal. I rather tend to the view that they were recruited in hope more than expectation. Not really sensible.

Yeah no our signings definitely weren’t ones for the future they were ones for right now or at least we needed them to be.

It would have cost us a lot more to buy him though, he was used as a makeweight in the Nunes deal.

Not a great deal from Man City’s perspective with hindsight!

i can see your point tj especially with abdullah but im not quite as pessimistic as you get the deadwood out of the door and if we make some clever signings can see us challenging for the top 6 next season however i am only 50/50 with wilder and think that hes only even money to still be in charge by the end of october utb ftp

That's been the biggest disappointment for me this season, that we haven't sold the club. I wasn't even overly concerned with the summer business because I was convinced we'd be sold by Christmas and be able to sort it out in January. But the utter lack of progress in getting it sold now has me thinking we're saddled with the prince for the medium-to-long term, so it's going to be a bumpy ride.

hardly suprising when his asking price was 170m 🤔
