Thought his assist against Derby was class, but he likely needs a goal of his own to settle himself. We’ve all seen what one big goal can do for a player’s confidence, a la Brewster.

the lad will come good.

At least if we get to play offs we have more than one striker

Cannon has gotta be better than gonna Wembley with old man Porter up top.
Having Porter up top was the dream, after turning up the previous time with Craig Beattie there 😱

Yes we hope it's not a big mistake.
It's as though the money was burning a hole in his pocket CW.
Like other blades I wait to see where his strengths are as he is not fast ,aggressive or a really physical player.
Hopefully we have seen something in him which we can develop!.
On what we have seen so far prem defenders will swallow him up and blow him out in bubbles.
He shouldn't be let loose with decent money,

CWs track record for signing players for free or small fees is brilliant. Just look at the 2016/17 team. Fleck, Duffy, JOC, Enda, Leon, Baldock, Lundsram and I include also getting the best out of players who were languishing at the Club like Sharp, Couts, Freeman and Bash. Add to that later recruiting Egan for only 4.5 mill, Norwood for 2 mill and surely our best ever freebie, the great Didsy. This seasons recruitment of Burrows, Cooper, and Campbell, Ohare follow that pattern. His halo got tarnished really when we got to the EPL in 2019/20. For the first time he had EPL money to spend and bought McB, then Berge, then Brewster all for (in my view) wholly inflated fees. His attempts to buy “bargains” (which actually weren’t that cheap) Callum Robinson, Freeman, Mousset didn’t work out.

Where does Cannon fit in that historic context? I suggest it’s too early to tell. Let’s hope he comes good.
Signing players in the PL for less than £10mill is the equivalent of signing players in the Championship for 500k. Robinson, Freeman and Mousset absolutely were cheap.

Not a clue how people are still suggesting we overpaid for Berge when he's highly rated at a top half team. Fulham paid a similar fee and feel they got a bargain!

As touched above, wages is always the issue. It's funny because we're willing to fork out on big wages for loan signings, but not for players we own.

I'd rather we had one player on £50k per week than two on £25k per week, as you're likely getting quality for what you've paid. Yes there's always a risk that they might not turn out how you hoped, but the same could be said of two players, neither of whom might make the step up.

This summer we need to change the mentality of the club. If you want to join the big boys then act like the big boys. Buy one player for £30mil, not three players for £10mil. Buy a player who can go straight into the first team instead of someone who can "compete for a place and keep the current players under pressure." Strengthen the team not the bench.

Harsh on the players who got us up? Yes, but that's football. We have no chance staying up with the current starting 11. I'm not saying some won't make the step up, but to improve your team you replace your current players and force some of them to the bench. The current bench warmers then leave the club. If you still have the same starting line up in two seasons as you do now, then you've failed in the transfer windows.

It's a slow process,
A number of clubs have gone up and down a couple of times before establishing themselves in the Prem

They've done it by having an excellent scouting system in Europe, the Far East and South America

We cannot afford to waste £3 million, £5 million, £8 million on players that just aren't physically, mentally and technically good enough

I was thinking about this just now. The club posted a video of MGW assist for Illi and Berge celebrating with them and it got me thinking about the team now and then. I think in terms of talent in the squad we have gone backwards quite a big step in recent years. Not good considering we should have used successive premiership campaigns to improve the squad. Bearing in mind that many of these players were from the L1 days also.

Just shows how awful our recruitment has been, I can't think of many upgraded positions.

This is very heavily tinted with Blade tinted specs.

No slight on Seriki but the fact that you've rated him as similar to Bogle is laughable to be honest.

They've done it by spending hundreds of millions of pounds bankrolled by billionaires who can cover losses of hundreds of millions of pounds a year

Not really
Bogle was never fir three games running had a heart the size of a pee and in his time with us couldn't pass, or cross a ball

Borrows isn't in Stevens class.

Borrows isn't in Stevens class.
The Stevens we had in the first prem season when we finished 9th was a completely different player to the one we had under Hecky. His and Flecks drop offs were massive (admittedly due to age and injuries).

I'd say Burrows now is better than Stevens was under Hecky. But Burrows will never be at the level Stevens was that season.

He’s performing at a higher standard than Stevens was at the same age & has plenty of scope for development. Let’s not forget that footballers are rarely close to being the finished article at the age that Burrows

Stevens was also outstanding when we were promoted under Wilder. Injuries and his legs finished him but for a time he was as good as anyone in that position, and in the highest league. Burrows will never play consistently at the top level in my opinion. He lacks pace, strength, athleticism and conviction.
