Reasons to be Cheerful

The angst, petulance, idiocy, frustration of some is doing my head in. Its inexplicably even been suggested that Tina Dave would be better at the helm of the club.

Yes we have been beaten to a couple of signings, yes we are struggling to get deals over the line, yes we don't have as much money to spunk on wages, yes rivals are recruiting okay.

HOWEVER.

We have (so far) kept all of our best players and tied some down to new deals. Keeping the likes of Fleck, Egan, JOC and Bash are crucial.

We have 3 young players in McB, Mousset and Berge who I believe will all be significantly better than last year, as they continue to develop and learn our system. Berge in particular think will flourish this year, either in the DMC or RCM role.

Our one piece of recruitment, in Ramsdale, is excellent and sets us up for some years with an asset that will only improve and grow in value.

We still have the, for my money, the best management team in English football. Who have improved us year on year on year. Not always with Marquee signings but with system and player development.

The transfer window isn't shut, I simply can't stress this enough. Our recruitment and squad assembly simply isn't complete. Make any judgements then.

We'll have a fairly heavy squad churn this year, with the likes of K Freeman, Leon, Zivko etc the squad will 100% improve, even if without big name signings.

We've progressed at frankly an alarming pace over the last 4 years, and never had it so good. The pace of progression simply can't continue. The next progression point is to become A fully established Premier League team, which would likely mean a couple more years finishing anywhere between 17th and 8th. And that would be a fantastic next step and allow us to start to compete financially.

Lest we forget, the pigs are currently on -12 points.

The thing I really don’t understand from our fans is the implied view from all the moaning this summer that this group can’t actually improve as players and have somehow reached their ceiling. We have within our squad plenty of players that I think we will see improve on their performances last season. I think it’s entirely reasonable to think that all of our starting XI can use last year’s experience at this level to continue to develop this season. That’s not blind faith, but simply looking at the steady improvement we’ve all witnessed with our own eyes.

At the start of the window my view was that provided we’re stronger than the squad we finished last season with, I’d be happy with that. We aren’t there yet, but I’m confident by the end of the window we will be.

As ever there's some people (mainly on Facebook, it's a little more sane on here) who were dismissing any of our rumoured targets as the cheap option and clearly not good enough only to turn around and proclaim we've missed out on clear quality now they've gone elsewhere. It's the typical anxiousness of the transfer window and some don't handle it well.

Our first eleven can give a game to anyone. We've proven that. The concern is that injuries and tired legs really did make a big different to our performances. And the problem is that, given the speed of our progression, the kind of players who would be a clear upgrade on what we've had are probably out of our price range, and not because we're skint. So how much do we want to get into a bidding war over the likes of Swift given they might not be clear starters for us? I'm happy for Wilder to stick to his guns and only take players that line up with his valuation.

Thanks for posting my thoughts and hopefully many others too. Would've taken an age for me to get that on a post without waffling on too much. It's all about stability now for the near future, from bottom of league 1 to within touching distance of Europe in 4 years is breathtaking. We are so very fortunate to have CW as our leader who not only is an outstanding talent but obviously also one of us so while we yearn for further success (in my case, a trophy, please! before I pop my clogs) the stability of top flight football with the riches that it brings is key to long term progression and hopefully success.
There is no quick fix for success just look across the city at the debacle of that freak show for proof.
It'll be 50 years in April since my first Blades game, a couple of Porterfield promotions, a couple of promotions & great memories under Harry, eventual but brief promotion under Warnock. Not much really when compared to many very poor times not to mention several play off/cup semi final heartbreaks.
Cut to the chase...by far the best period of my Blades career, enjoy and embrace it, we've earned it and deserve it.

One of the huge problems too (a very good problem indeed), is that the players have played that brilliantly, and our wage structure is that watertight, that any signing we look at to even have a sniff of being deputy, will cost double the wages and fee to poach.

Our transfer window struggle now is a testament to how well our players have performed, and how well our football club is run

Our starting 11 can give anyone a game and we saw that last season. I think the players will be a little more settled and not in awe as much.

I remember going to some games thinking I wonder how good Chelsea are here? these players are human beings they must have had nerves / butterflies. Now with a similar team it’s less unknown to them all.
