I'd have him as a back up (with a view to starting) central defender.

He's got good feet.
He's probably as fast as you'd expect a defender to be.
He's a fucking unit who knows how to get stuck in.
He would be able to carry the ball forward.
He can spray a nice long pass.
There probably isn't really a space for him in our midfield.

Would love to see the lad do well for us in some capacity.

Can't fault the reasoning buddy !

Mate, he turns like an ocean liner and gets out of position as a center mid... God help us if he was the last line of defence!!

Best thing for him, would be to go out on loan to a top League One side who play football and get 40 games under his belt, then come back next season and compete for a starting place.

FFS, I give in - this topic keeps doing the rounds in one form or another - trying to shoehorn Lunny into the team.

Do we want to get out of this division? if the answer is yes, then we need quality - we don't need to be trying anything that ultimately might fail.

There's no guarantee Norwood is part of the solution, but it's a start in creating the quality that is needed.

Why the hell would we try to do that with him while we've got Leonard here, who's a far better candidate for CB?

Lundstram at CB is a non starter. He's not a naturally defensive minded player, he's not good in the air.. It would be the ultimate shoehorning.

Isn't Lunstram left footed? So he can't really play RCB. He isn't replacing the brick destroyer at LCB and I doubt he will be taking Egan/Stearmans job.

Backup to fleck for me.

I've got a better idea, why don't we get off his back, support the lad and let's see how he does. He's not going to get any better if people start slagging him off for ever minor mistake. I for one think there is a good player in there, never hides and tries to start things in an attacking sense. As for saying that, I'll leave it to Wilder to decide what/where is future lies. In the short term, let's give him our backing.

Think this is a non-starter, for reasons stated above, but...does anyone actually know what Lunny's role in the team is, where he plays best? I can't figure out if he's a defensive mid, box-to-box type or what.

I think there's a player in there somewhere, and I preferred him to Evans, but the guy's a bit of an enigma.

I’m one of the few that see a real player in Lundstrum, his style is not disimiliar to Steven Gerard.
The problem is he tries the Steven Gerard role, one minute he makes a great long distance pass but the next minute he gives the ball away in bad areas. Also he makes them Gerard style late runs but shoots the ball into row z.

He’s got allround talent and good potential but currently he just falls short and is prone to mistakes.
He’s still young though and may improve, agree he is an enigma and flatters to deceive.

I've always had him down as patrolling in front of a back four, taking out anything that got through because he can tackle when a player is coming into him (not when he 's chasing and leg waving) and distributing from there long or short. I don't see him further up the pitch.

Except neither are as good as Bash there

I didn’t say they were better or even as good as... i said they might be alright. For me bash is one of the first names on the team sheet but as fit as he is, he might miss the odd game through an
Injury or suspension so Leonard or as OP said Lundstram might be an option. Plus Bash did a job in midfield at the weekend so he might do that again in future

Either way - Leonard and Lundstram would probably be 3rd/4th choice as a RCB.

I hope he gets to play alongside Coutts or Norwood I think we will see him excel now Evans has gone.

His match time as a first team starter is slowly ebbing away, his play in the game at Boro might have been the straw that broke the camels back with Wilder.

Not a bad idea that. Can he head a ball though? Not being sarcastic btw, I just don’t associate that part of the game with him.

His problem is that he takes the easy pass option almost every time. And it’s terribly negative. Time yet for him to improve though.

My feeling with Lundstram is he won't improve much, and he'll only improve slowly.

He's played a lot of games in his career for his age. If he was going to improve to the sort of level we'd like I think he would have been a lot closer to that by now.

Lundstram is ok,but no better than that, every championship side has to have a first team squad of 20 odd players,(A)8/9 are regulars,(B)7/8 are in and out,(C)4/5 rarely get a look in,i think Lundstram is a (B) and will never be an (A).

I don’t think he’s a bad player. Just not good enough for this division.

Can anyone point me in the direction, of the Lundstrum appreciation society please, I'm bored of him being slated now, I need to read all the positives.

His long distance distribution is the best in the squad. So could be a plan B, sitting in front of the defense hitting the long ball to finishers. Bypasses the risk of the counter attack teams, the ones who spend the big money on the speed merchants we can't match.

He might know how to get stuck in, but he hides it f***ing brilliantly!!!!

I've often thought for such a big f***er Lundstrum is awful at winning the ball in the tackle. It's what would have been known in the late 70s / early 80s as the John Matthews syndrome.

Word game for the scapegoaters

Have you seen him defend?
I have, his body position is generally awful, gets caught flat footed, lacks the pace to recover from that and get back in Andy has the turning speed of an oil tanker.

For those reasons, I’m afraid he will never be a centre half or defender.
