I realise you have that great rating system but it's always good to discuss and compare how others saw the game.

Turner 8/10 - did everything that was asked of him and looked solid
Freeman 7/10 - very persistent defending and tries to get forward a lot
Kennedy 9/10 - outstanding; won every header and no nonsense tackling... capped it off with a lovely through ball to set up Murphy
Basham 7.5/10 - solid
Brayford 7/10 - looked to drive us forward whenever he received it; sometimes it didn't result in anything though. Good first performance back
Reed 8/10 - very good; retained possession well and set up our first goal. Also put himself about and won the ball a few times
Davies 6.5/10 - was neat and tidy but didn't offer too much from what I saw; we have better options
Wallace 5/10 - Clough did right to take him off when he did; game seemed to pass him by a bit
Coutts 6.5/10 - looked strong on the ball but didn't contribute too much as Swindon ran the midfield for the most part
Adams 6.5/10 - bit quiet first half other than a very good effort after a nice bit of skill. Looked very mature for his age as the game went on barring a dodgy switch of play gifting them possession
Higdon 5/10 - I'm not one of those that's always on his case but he was fortunate not to see a 2nd yellow IMO. Did have some good touches but he forced Clough into that change by not controlling himself a little more

Murphy 9/10 - clearly our best player and has been for a very long time now. So happy he signed a new contract and capped it with too class finishes.
Scougall 8/10 - thought he was very effective with the time he got on the field. Took the game to them and helped us turn the tide a little
Baxter 5/10 - looked lethargic (not helped by some wayward passes towards him); didn't do much after coming on

Davies good balls in the box, post. Only just coming back. Good squad player. 7
Che looked a handful and a threat several times 8

Agree with the rest.

Been waiting to see if we'd get anything out of Kennedy and bed him into a settled role in the back four. Be interesting if some sort of partnership with McEveley or McGahey or even Alcock can be established to allow Basham back into DM as a choice for him or Doyle.

Higdon and Baxter, eh?

pommpey

Agree about Kennedy, does the basic stuff well and looked excellent. Though Clough has said that due to his injury, he will struggle to play 2 games per week, so if its a settled back 4 we are after, Kennedy may not be the man :-(

Basham and Kennedy should, fitness permitting, be the nailed on CB partnership from now to the play off final.
No McEveley and Kennedy. Basham nearly cost us today and McEveley has been so solid all season. Basham at times leaves too big a gap between himself and the other CB.

Turner 8/10 Made some very important stops to keep us in the game.

Brayford 7/10 Same old Brayford. Assured at the back, threatening going forward. Glad to have him back.

Basham 7.5/10. Won most in the air, read the ball and played his part in nullifying a very potent threat from Swindon.

Kennedy 9/10. Fantastic. He was my MOM, edging out Reed. So effective as a CB. Reads the game like a seasoned pro and wins every 50/50 put infront of him. A classy pass to assist the 2nd goal.

Freeman 7.5/10. Again, dealt with a very threatening right flank from Swindon. His distribution seems to have improved too.

K. Wallace 6/10 Defended well and won a few challenges but was slightly padestrian. Not a shameful performance mind.

Reed 8.5/10. Pure class this kid. I can't believe I just watched a 17 year old kid put in as accomplished a performance against a good Swindon side. His passing is sublime, evident in the delightful ball for the 1st goal.

Coutts 7/10. Definitely has class about him and constantly looks to attack with ball. Promising debut.

Adams 7/10. Like Reed, looked beyond his years. Tracked back effectively, with time and space he frightened the Swindon defence.

Higdon 5/10. Held it up OK. Yes, the ref was a nightmare, but he should've not clumsily ran into their defenders and give a trigger happy ref the chance to get his whistle and cards out. An unprofessional display and Murphy did a much better, professional and effective job of leading the line when he replaced him.

SUBS;

Murphy 9/10. Wow. This boy is really on fire at the moment and how he took both goals would've graced a game at any level of professional football.

Scougall 8/10. Came on and gave us energy tracking back and going forward. Great engine and also frightened Swindon with his pace.

Baxter 5/10. Came on to help preserve the lead and got his body in the way a few times without really making an impact on the game like Scougall did.

Swindon 8/10. A very easy-on-the-eye footballing side and the best to have visited the lane. They were unlucky not to at least score a goal and I believe the stop/start pace to the game provided by the dickhead ref suited us more then it did them.

I'm looking at the side / squad now and I'm seeing real signs of a team that can put a run together

For the first time this season I can see a tunnel at the end of the light

Still think we need a couple more signings a bit more presence and experience but I'm not complaining can see the club are trying now

The squad looks reAlly hefty now though. Nice, provided we're not robbing Peter. And we need a striker, though I wonder if we should use Murphy centrally more often now.

UTB

Adams was terrific today. Has lots to learn but there's a naturally gifted footballer in there all right.

Wallace 6
Reed 7

Nope ..... we need 1 / 2 strikers just the same as we have needed them since Ched Evans went on holiday at her Majesties pleasure .....

And I think you guys are incredibly generous giving Scougal 8/10. I like him BUT he's totally ineffective in this Division and was shrugged off the ball on multiple occasions, several of which put us under pressure.

The referee today was one of the worst referees I've EVER seen and that is saying something in this season of TRULY SHIT refereeing !!!

Perhaps I was a little harsh on Adams. I did actually have him as 7.5 when I originally posted but something in the back of my head told me to knock him down 1. Probably because I was comparing him to the brilliance of Reed...

Your a real ray of light aren't you? Scoogs totally ineffective? Christ on a bike.

Team understandably played like strangers at times. Individually:
Kennedy could even be a goal threat. Really wants a place in the team.
I thought Scougall was outstanding, chasing after their midfield like a hungry dog after a tasty postman.
Adams - reserve judgement, lost or gifted possession in very good positions. Hope he loses the weak parts of his game and improves the strong parts.

Thought Swindon played some very good stuff and sliced us open a number of times but they dived and cheated like the worst of Division 1. Great to win against a team like that.

I thought Freeman did well. Didn't get too much support from Che, there were times where I thought swap him with Murphy.

First 30 minutes I thought we looked there for the taking by Swindon. Turner steady at the back and we rode our luck with several scrambles at the back, thought lady luck was with us today, about time after atrocious run of the ball at home this season, eg Barnsley and Orient.

Not sure whether Higden was more sinned against than sinner but Clough had no choice but to take the lad off.

Nice to see grit and determination pay off for players who've played second fiddle for a large part of the season.

Scougs made a difference when he came on, Jose had no choice but to take that booking and Murphy just gets better.

Good performance from Che

Scougall was as influential as Murphy ,bit hard on Baxter too ,he wasn't on long enough to get a mark really and had to take that booking for the team due to a terrible ball from Che. Don't agree that Higdon was lucky not to get sent off ,didn't think any of his challenges warranted a yellow.
Turner was superb too.

Turner 8. Better than Long, sorry George

Basham 7. Nothing spectacular but talisman
Kennedy 9. Superb, please stay injury free
Basham 8. How anyone gave him a poor Mark is baffling
Freeman 6. rather have Harris, strange signing for me.

Davies 6. One paced and off the pace today, but unlucky with the free kick
Reed 8. Not at it in first half, excellent in the second half
Coutts 6. Steady needs games I reckon
K Wallace 6 Faded but I thought he was our best centre mid in a poor first half
Adams 7. A combination of inexperiance and promise, tired late on and should have come off with 15 mins to go.

Higdon 4. Idiot, sorry, I know Swindon were trying to get him sent off but surely he is experienced enough not to get involved.

subs
Murphy 10. Sensational, display, delighted he has signed an extension.
Scougall 7. more signs he is coming back to form.
Baxter. 5 Poor decison to bring him on, should have been Doyle

Good performance from Che

Great summing up, some of the comments of our players performance have been a little over the top but understandable given the opposition and result. I thought all our team struggled first half, but most improved substantially second half. Murph and Scougs changed the game, of that there is no doubt.

I think you deserve a lot of credit for this post. Nice one. You are right, we could almost get excited looking at how the squad is developing.

It was a shambles 1st half, better 2nd half and 2 well taken goals by Murph.
I wasn't that impressed with Freeman really and we still need at least 1 striker if not 2 and maybe we could have a chance of the top 2

Freeman improved hugely after the break. Lets not forget he's barely played lately and was playing left back.

Nice to see Murph up top and his pace really pulled the centre halfs all over the field. Impressed with Ché, Tel and Scoogs.
