Ramsdale

I like Rammers, i dont think hes the best keeper but ive seen worse in the prem. He did make a couple of decent saves. I think the problem is that our keeper in general is being exposed to a lot more close quarter shots this season than last as our defence has lost its solidity.

Henderson often had games where he had nothing but routine long shots to save as our defence and he was solid. The fact our defence has lost jits spark means the rammers i think is being exposed more. Henderson i think would struggle with the defence this year.

Ramsdale, good keeper or not, is absolutely broken right now.

Got to put someone else in now surely.

Verrips for me, better the devil you don't know haha..

Foderingham is a liability from what I've seen.

Send Ramsdale away on holiday for a week to get his shit together.

It might be a good idea to pick a LCB and stick to it too, we've had 5 players play there since JOC got crocked.

I think we have to go with Kean Bryan to be honest and take the negatives. Robinson is too angry, Jags needs to retire, Ampadu is meh in that position, Stevens doesn't have the attention span.

Bryan isn't great but physically he's the closest to JOC and he's decent with the ball at his feet.

You know we're in the shit when I'm suggesting Kean Bryan for the Prem...

Out for a month with a calf injury

Bryan? Yeah that rings a bell now come to think of it.

Still, got to pick one until we sign one, and the one we sign needs to be able to slot straight in.

Changing defence every week is madness.

We've spent £18m on Ramsdale, we have to stick with him. He's young enough to improve, but I am worried by what I'm seeing. The way he goes to ground so early and makes himself so small when he dives really lacks Premier League quality.

I like the kid, but I think he's the worst no.1 in the division and he's playing his part in making us the worst team in the division too.

If people honestly think putting Foderingham in over Ramsdale will help, you haven't seen Wes play.... He's even more shite.
Rammers will come good. He's battling confidence right now, he's better than he's shown.

He’s poor right now and that is a fact that cannot be argued. Give him a few weeks off. Wilde signed the other keepers we have so let’s see them. We drop everyone else after a game or two. I hope he comes good but right now he is a liability that makes the defence shaky ! That doesn’t take much doing but it’s certainly not helping. Got a feeling Chris and money don’t mix well.

I know how you feel I did the same and then about game 8/9 mine changed as well. There's only so long you can give him the benefit of the doubt. He does make some good saves , but then some awful errors. It's like he's trying to catch an eel with a tub of vaseline on his hands.
Believe it or not Vaseline improves grip shay given did it for years haha

on a different topic I’m a qualified goalkeeper coach and work at step3 of non league. With ambitions to go into the football league

I think Ramsdale is a decent keeper, makes a lot of mistakes positioning wise. Second goal and the first goal Sunday he’s started to come Stopped doesn’t really communicate so made the defender make a decision to defend it which has not worked out. Shots stopping bar the third tonight he’s generally decent, however he has a lot of flaws in his game which will come as he get older and plays more games (fingers crossed) e.g. coming for crosses, commanding an area, how to play percentages etc

should we keep him in the next few games...I don’t think so, I can see him going down a similar path to George long. Little confidence, and not really recovering if he continues to let goals in at the rate he is (1 clean sheet in something like his last 40 games!).

overall I think he has a good future in the game but is he the goalie we needed for the price. I don’t think so, looking back a experienced cheaper option may have been the way forward to keep us up or if we went down until Dewhurst is ready, I have worked with him and he is a very hot prospect. Some big clubs are looking at him!

We miss both, absolutely. Ramsdale is far from the only reason we're losing, but he's still nowhere near as good as Henderson. When we were rumoured to be buying Ramsdale, some fans tried to convince us he'd eventually be better than Henderson. I don't know if they were trying to kid themselves or everyone else.
We still dont know the answer to this question, at present no he is not a better keeper, but in a year or twos time who knows... we may see hendo dropping into the championship on loan, whereas Rammers might be pushing for england, football changes so quickly as we all know

Nowt personal but I would go with Verrips at BHA, Ramsdale is/may be one for the future and wants saving for the future (along with Lowe).

Ramsdale needs taking out of the firing line for a 'breather', and for the benefit of the team!. His 'dive' over the ball for the third goal was an embarrassment
It was only a side-footed shot and the players heads went down afterwards, thankfully they picked themselves back up and tried to rescue something from the game.

What I saw (briefly!, think he lasted 30+ mins) of Verrips in his debut game was as good as could be expected!. Ok, the opposition (AFC Fylde) weren't Prem quality but, after going behind early, they were arguably the better team and tested Verrips with some good attempts at goal. He came for and caught crosses, made standard and good stops/saves, 1 from a deflection before he went off injured, after being brave enough to dive into flailing feet!. He's a big lad but seemed to get down to the ball well and commanded his area!. Albeit for less than 40 minutes. He must be worth taking another look at!, if he isn't then WTF is doing still at the club?

Ramsdale is a good asset. If we keep playing him whilst his heads gone we could destroy it.

At the moment he needs to earn his shirt. Unfortunately he doesn’t deserve to be there. Give him a week off or he’s finished.

Our defence was solid because we had a confident keeper last season. This season that belief just isnt there, even though our workrate is greater.

The high line was ridiculous. Our defence just aren’t fast enough to deal with a ball over the top. Jags is just too slow to deal with that. Good of Wilder to admit he got it wrong.

Lets try Verrips or Fotheringham.
We could make a team from members in this forum and play United, yes we would loose but I know we would score.

He's doing exactly the same with us - some really good saves coupled with inexperience and a massive tendency to be flat footed.

UTB

Consistently inconsistent

You know he will pull off a few decent saves, but nothing you wouldn’t expect a premier league keeper to make

You also know he will let in a goal that a real premier league keeper would save

Bit like Man City replacing Aguero with McB - he will score 10 from the chances created, but Aguero would have scored 25

His confidence can’t have been high given he was relegated last season

Hendo left big boots (and ego, gob and confidence) to fill

Think we would have been better served with an experienced older head, Martinez or the outcast at Man U

But he is ours, what little confidence he has will be wiped by dropping him

Get the defenders to give him more protection, they had confidence that last year they could take a risk because Hendo would bail them out, they must now feel like letting a premier league striker through is like letting him have a run at mi Nan

Hi, Stego here

My thread about him been our worst ever signing has been deleted.

But I'll post here to act smug. Told you so. At failt for 2. Floundered for 1

I don't agree with singling a player out, but I would give him a rest and take him out of the firing line a little.

Right now, we're losing with him in the side, and we can put Verrips in and see if he's any improvement. Takes the heat off the lad for a bit. He's a decent keeper, but with the spotlight on him, behind a patched up backline, and facing unfair comparisons with Henderson.

There lies the problem. Henderson in this team would struggle. Fuck me, Buffon in this team would struggle.

yes agreed - we are a shadow of last seasons team.

Personally I reckon the March lockdown has given Prem teams plenty of time to sit down and analysis all the opposition and they have certainly worked out how to turn us over.

All they need to know is
Dodgy frightened keeper.
Weak defence.
No goal threat..
Go one up, we've beaten Wilder's boys.

(Granted he has probably faced the most shots in 2020)

Rammers isn't the problem. His stats other than clean sheets show he is doing just fine relative to the amount of shots he is facing apparently. He just needs to be confident catching the ball more often.

Our real problems are elsewhere.

Worst ever signing? Sorry Stego, but if you really believe that, you need to stop taking the Deludamol...

Of course he’s not the worst when you think of the dross we’ve signed over the years but a lot of that dross cost peanuts or nowt. Ramsdale’s cost us a small fortune and I’m sorry to say but it’s money poorly spent. He is shit and those of you hoping he’s going to come good or are staying his ‘stats say he’s good’ are kidding yourselves. Time to face up that it’s another pile of money spunked away

Trouble is at best he only makes saves you would expect an average PL goalkeeper to make...

(has he ever made a world class save in his career? Seen none on the highlight reels)

He made two v good saves in the first half, one of which immediately prior to conceding the goal: caused yet again by our useless defence

Without wanting to sound unkind they were good saves that we would/should expect a PL keeper to make.

If you hadn't have saved them people would be saying 'he should have done better there'
