Ramsdale

I really, really want to like Ramsdale. I want him to be a long standing GK for us and a club legend. However, i'm finding it extremely difficult to.

The thing with him for me is his concentration and/or positioning. At least once a game he ends up sat on the floor with absolutely no idea where the ball is. I think he's gotten away with all of them, but it gives me absolutely no confidence whatsoever.

Arsenal's first goal. He's ended up trying to stop the cross and in a poor position for Saka to aim at 75% of the goal.

Leeds goal. Sent the wrong way with a header

Even our goal against Bournemouth last season. How do you even get in that position as a GK?

He reminds me of kids in the playground - he seems to want to come for every ball. But then it seems our defenders would rather try and win it to stop that happening. This then leads to weak/poor headed clearances which fall to the opposition and put us under more pressure - Southampton's 1st goal comes to mind.

Here's one he got away with, this was v Leicester, he came for a routine catch and ended up getting away with it after dropping the ball:

Bogle's chest back v Newcastle. Why has he come to that position? (kid in a playground).

It's like he was trying to intercept the ball from #16 despite it clearly going towards Bogle. It's barely going to make it into the area, therefore it isn't his responsibility. If Bogle fucks it up, it's on him.

As I say, i'm trying to like him and not be harsh on the lad. But currently, he scares the shit out of me

Absolutely spot on.

We concede piles of goals where debate is split on - "Could Ramsdale have done better?"

For me, the answer is always nearly - yes.

He gets his hand to a lot of shots & fans say - you can't blame Ramsdale for that. Henderson wouldn't have got to that.
But dig a little bit deeper & you notice - the ball's not even gone in in the corner.

His starting positions (firstly) & then his lack of agility (secondly) to compensate, ensure that shots that shouldn't go in often do.
Henderson made a lot of saves look very routine last season which Ramsdale would have either conceded, or made to look extremely difficult.

And you're also bang on that his erratic decision making does nothing to put our defence at ease. This adds enormously to our difficulties in defending crosses.

I also want to like him. But he's been a poor signing.

I see that a lot of peoples 'alternative' in Emi Martinez was absolutely shocking on Wednesday.

So? Martinez has been one of the goalkeepers of the season.

What do you mean so?!

My point is that all keepers make mistakes, yet for some reason ours isn't allowed to.

Might wanna wind ya neck in then next time ya wanna slag off our player.

What's that supposed to mean?

When Ramsdale plays well, I state so. When he does not, I state so. More often than not he has not played well this season, delighted to see this trend being bucked in recent times.

Martinez has had a better season than him so far. I hope Ramsdale surpasses him and goes onwards and upwards, leaps and bounds.

DeGea has been garbage this year.
Lloris is my favourite keeper and he's dropped some right bollocks already this season.
Just throwing that out there.

Paul Cooper the Ex Ipswich keeper who was good a saving Penalties would get down faster than Ramsdale even now, and I bet he's well in his 60's.

Don't blame him for the pen but is his new thing pushing a fairly standard save back out into the danger area? Seems to do it badly each game. We're largely getting lucky and it's not falling to an opponent but he did one off a shot he has to hold. He never seems to hold onto the ball unless it's really close to his body.

He dives after the ball is kicked. 🤷
Holy fuck, recently he got pelters on here for choosing early and diving the wrong way when all the fucking pro goalies on here KNOW all you have to do is wait and see where they kick it and then enjoy a leisurely dive that way to make the save. So, tonight he gets called for his reactions being slow. (reactions, that is, to a ball kicked from 12 yards away by a professional ball kicker). Now, whether he's the greatest goalie in history or the worst (guess what, he's neither) letting him have it every time United concede a penalty is plainly unfair. To put it into context, Peter Shilton, one of the best English goalies in history, saved just 2 out of all the penalties he faced in his career.

He makes world class saves week in week out, he's in the top 5 keepers in the Premier league. Should be England's no.1 at the Euros.

He struggles with slow reflexes and poor diving. Not suited to pens.

Or been a goalkeeper generally

Not wanting to pick on the lad, but in people’s opinion, what is he good at?

Hendo was good shot stopper
Jamal was a unit and commanded the box
Kelly was a great organiser etc

So what would you say is his strength?

"It should be three.

West Ham are in again, this time it's Vladimir Coufal who is one-on-one with Aaron Ramsdale, but does not look confident at all and his low shot is brilliantly kept out by the Sheffield United goalkeeper from close range."

If only they could do what they are paid for doing up the other end...

Dont you think ramsdale was slow to react!! Should he have not caught it instead of pushing it out for a corner!! If ramsdale had caught the ball he could have kicked it long, ran up front and scored.

He doesn't have one.
