Ramsdale

On £20,000 a week , by the time he's 25 he will be a millionaire then I bet stress will really take over. Try getting shut of that daft short sleeved goalies jumper and keep a couple of clean sheets and all his stress will disappear.

Maybe to get Blades fans on side Ramsdale should do some knee slides or fist pump the crowd more......Doh!
Or he could try moving his feet before diving, catching the ball occasionally, improving his distribution, improving his positioning, improving his (at times unbelievably slow) reactions. Maybe be a little more commanding and not let the ball bounce off an opposition player 3 yards from his goal line? You know, generally goalkeepery type stuff?

I think there is a distinction to be made from the A - "player X didn't play well today, he needs to improve. To B - "fUcKIN NonCe!!!!22111" I hope Yer kIdz get ruN OVa!!

We would all love to attend games and give the players a boost and a lift but as mentioned it's not possible to do this ATM. Performances are down purely to the management and players.

Fans have always slagged players off, whether it is from the terraces or radio phone ins. Unfortunately it is part of football. Anyone remember Tony Adams donkey ears? Jordan Pickford must have to avoid every form of media.
I'll back ramsdale, simply because I feel he is by far the best option we have at the moment. He is a downgrade on Henderson, but Hendo was world class for us, and is now priced accordingly. For me Ramsdale needs to work on his footwork as he has looked flat footed at times.

Is it? Why? It's personal abuse. It's taken to heart. Whether you choose to accept it or not.

I am guilty of flinging plenty of shit in certain players direction but I'd never dream of directly sending them a message calling them whatever. It's odd behaviour. And don't get me started on 'man up'.

Of course there's a difference between calling someone shit at football and targeting someone because of the colour of their skin. If saying Lunny is a useless cunt of a footballer is the same as racial abuse then we're all due a knock on the door.

I do agree that messaging players directly is a twattish thing to do.

I was fuming at Rammers when watching the game v Chelsea. His biggest issue for me is he makes no attempt to catch any ball and often puts it back into a dangerous area. However I have calmed down somewhat since, and taken a different look at where we may be going wrong.
Looking at our XG stats for and against and comparing them with actual goal stats for and against it seems to me Rammers isn't neccesarily where all our defensive problems lie.
Saves:
Using Infogol stats our XG against so far is 13.8 and we've let in 14. That suggests to me Rammers is saving attempts on goal that an average premier league keeper should save, and conceding what an average prem keeper would expect to concede.
Defending:
An XG against of 13.8 puts us in and among about 6 other teams that have conceded over 13xga. Some of this chance conceding can be attributed to Rammers I think (e.g. parrying the ball to dangerous areas) but most of it is because we are not defending well as a team. Too many headers are being won uncontested by attackers in our box and too many easy crosses are going into our box. I blame the absence of a suitable JOC stand in here, but that is being compounded by also losing Enda at LB to cut out crosses at source. Enda covering left centre back weakens 2 positions not one. (Baldock is also not keeping crosses out well enough).
Attacking:
Our XG for is currently 8.7. We have scored only 4. Average finishers would have scored about 9 goals if presented with the chances we have created so far. So for me this is a big area we must improve, and would go a long way to getting us some points.

So based on the above, for me, the priority is to get a dominant aerial presence in our own box, at Left centre back (McBurnie???), play those wing backs that are best at stopping crosses coming in (Baldock & Stevens ??), and play a forward who knows how to finish (Sharp??).
In short, its definitely not all about Ramsdale, in fact it mostly isn't.
He is getting very over exposed!
Cant see McB wanting to play there but at least he'd be contributing something! ;-)

Absolute nonsense some of the stick Ramsdale is getting hasn't made one howler yet this season and made plenty of quality saves

Proper brain dead morons who have slagged him off which he's obviously seen

Cant all these brain dead divs go back to bladesmad or something Christ

Do you have short term memory loss? Please see above

Wonder if he'd still consider himself a United fan? I don't think I would if I thought my bredrin were so vehemently against me.

Might help him if he thinks fuck yer, I'm just going to do my job and go home.

Ramsdale had a poor game at Chelsea and criticism of his performance is justified. Personal abuse isn't.

I don't think he'd be bothered if people were just saying "he should have saved that". He'll probably think that himself anyway. Unfortunately as we've seen many times before, there are too many idiots in this world that think social media gives them the right to send anything they want without repercussion.

In the whole I think he's done quite well. He could have got MOTM against Chelsea and we still would have lost convincingly.

Just maybe some people on here who like to dish out abuse because you don't agree with people should take note 😡

A brilliant save is as good as scoring at the other end. At the moment, Ramsdale could be our top scorer.

Last season was built on the rock-solid foundation of an excellent, well-drilled back three plus one of the best goalkeepers ever to grace the Bramall Lane turf. Half of that unit is absent this season and that's a huge issue to overcome. Ramsdale is a top drawer Premier League keeper having to deal with far more than Hendo, who had the aforementioned wall of steel in front of him. Without JOC, last season, we conceded 11 goals in 5 league games, winning just one of them (3-1 v Spurs). This season we've conceded 14 from 8 games (11 from 6 without JOC), so slightly fewer per game. That's 2 less than Liverpool and the same as Man U who have played a game less and have Hendo and De Gea to choose from. So a bit of perspective is needed here.

Is it correct to assume an average PL goalkeepers XGA Vs AGA (Actual) should be Zero?

I'm no xg expert but I believe so yes. If its zero hes doing as expected..

Aye, much more fairly put than some. I've replied to you to sum it up mate rather than getting in any daft argument.

He's 22. I s'pose lads of 22 can vary hugely in maturity but either way it's young (and with the ages for moving out, buying houses, getting married and having kids all going up, it's getting younger).

There'll be folk on here with sons that are 22, we've all got workmates that age- it's bloody young. If you (they) break up with a girlfriend/fall out with mates or whatever, and get abuse on Instagram etc, of course it's pressure, of course it affects people. Crank that pressure up by Christ knows how many for Ramsdale.

There's tonnes of evidence on the figures for depression (and worse) for young men in this country and worldwide right now. I know some will say "when I was 22 I had 3 kids and a house", "when my grandad was 22 he fought in the battle of the Somme"...with due respect, don't. This is now.... I'm not saying young blokes are right or wrong for feeling pressured, I'm saying they do and the stats are scary.

The 'you know what you're signing up for' argument doesn't really work for me either. He's not signed up to be a Marine, he's not trained up/agreed/decided he can handle owt... he's just happened to be good at football.

And he's signed for the team he supports, for a fuck load of money, replacing a crowd favourite and best keeper out there, and we're struggling. That's enough to be going on with.

Hopefully he'd had a few Guinesses and thought 'fuck this' and it was a throw away posting that means nowt. I say get behind him personally but of course folk are entitled to express what they think and their frustrations (and he has made mistakes).

But don't trot out all the 'man up' bollocks, he's just a lad.
👏🏻👏🏻

Well done, mate. Nicely put.

I'm going to stick up for Rammers a bit (being part of the goalkeepers union). With regards to the Chelsea game, I think he was only at fault for the 2nd goal. Knowing him, he'll know and it would have been in his mind as soon as it hit the net that he should have come for it. I think the few games preceding this, he's been fine, and this has been acknowledged on this forum by the majority.

It was always going to be a tough task for him following Hendo, who is probably not far off being world class. If anything, he just needs to work on that "first step" when he's about to dive - he either goes the other way or doesn't always get that "spring" when he takes off on the weight bearing foot.

As I've just posted on the other thread, if this is a reflection of where he's at and a hint he's crumbling then he needs to grow a pair or fuck off.
Premier league matches generally get watched by millions of people, you know, supporters, and a minority like to find fame by being sensationalist with over the top criticism.
Look at the shit that was thrown at Henderson, the nonce stuff, and whilst I'm not saying that kind of shit is OK it's part and parcel of being in the highlight these days.
Rammers still has my full support and I was over the moon when we signed him, but he needs to step up and not whinge like a fucking under 7's goalie if things aren't great, not look for pity.

Fucking shameful if he's using this to try and get fans to lay off him.
If I were Chris I'd be ripping him a new one.
No place for surrender monkeys in this team, and if this is what's causing the lack. of team spirit I'd furlough him till his pubes came through.
Big fan Rammers (if you're reading this) but fuck off with the pity shit.
Given today was remembrance day maybe have a watch of some old D day vids and realise how easily you actually have it. You'll be going home at the end of each game. Ffs.
Trying to recall if I have seen a more stupid, unenlightened and ignorant post this year.

Nope, I don't think I have,

He had a bad game against Chelsea, he has not looked the same level as Henderson. But apart from that, I have been alright with Ramsdale, his current performance, his fee and his potential. This is not one of the signings I am worried about. Goalkeepers really don't benefit from the intensity of video analyses after games, creates a ridiculous expectation amongst fans. Trust me, Alan Kelly would not be half the legend he is, if he was playing today.
