Ramadan 2023

It should be in some way concerning that we’re seeing the religion creep into football here like this now with the breaks and everything, no doubt this will have something to do with the influx of Middle East owners putting pressure higher up. Expect it to step up a gear when the Qataris finally get a slice in the PL

It is very concerning. Next thing you know Gary Sinclair will be delivering the call to prayer mid way through a match 😱

My Muslim ex just chose to sleep more in between sunrise and sunset, especially when it’s too hot. Each to their own.
Me being agnostic was never a problem. Big binge eating at Eid. Any excuse for a party. 🥳

Think Bramall Lane is consecrated ground. A few years ago I saw a picture of a Bishop blessing it. May be wrong but I think it was something do with the number of people who were having their Ashes sprinkled there. Not sure if this still happens on the Desso as it's not good for the pitch. Wouldn't want to be sprinkled down the kop bogs.

Exactly, next thing you know you’ll have matches scheduled for religious holidays or even religious songs being sung before kick off at the FA Cup final.

Don't let Gary know FFS. He'll make a right scene. Call to prayers and the lot

I'd guess that Coulibaly is Muslim too and Anel? But as others have said they don't have to fast on matchdays and can make up the missed fasts outside of Ramadan even if they are practicing.

Unless I've got this round my neck, sunset in Burnley tonight is 8.01pm.

Does this mean the match will start a few minutes late to allow those observing ramadan to break fast? Or will they stop the match a few minutes in?

FYI, Anel is also observing Ramadan, as are Coulibaly and Brewster.

I love how a committed athlete like Ndiaye can fully observe Ramadan but the family I saw in full Muslim garb having burgers at Tim Hortons this morning can't.
Next week I fully expect to see an Orthodox Jew tucking into a bacon cheeseburger.
TBF I don't think it's fair to criticise the practices of people who you have no knowledge of their beliefs. Someone can dress in the style of a religion and do not believe in the observance to the rules of that religion EG an Atheist dresses in traditional Asian dress. I think you've made a generalisation as how do you identify a Methodist, Mormon, Roman Catholic breaking the rules of their particular faith without knowing whether they no longer practice that religion.

I wear flip flops 365 days a year.

Incredibly facetious to suggest this is in any way the same considering that one of them is a tradition going back almost a century, and the other is something clearly being brought in to please foreign interests in the English game.

Again, facetiousness to hide your own ignorance but anyone with any basic historical knowledge of how aggressive religious sects begin to influence society knows that it starts with small concessions & ends up with larger demands

Islam isn't skynet. I don't live in fear of it.

The sport has evolved from a white working mans game played by pissheads into a smorgasbord of cultures, creeds and beliefs (at a similar pace to society) and we have to adapt to the welfare and beliefs of those that wish to balance them with their career.

We're literally talking about a few lads breaking fast with some lucozade for 30 seconds.

You are equating muslim footballers grabbing 2 minutes off the pitch to break their fast with a Mars bar to some “great replacement theory” nonsense at the bequest of the Qataris. Think you’ve won hands down in the ignorance stakes.

I’ve gone to school with Muslims, worked with Muslims, been friends with Muslims, played football with muslims, chatted in taxis with Muslim drivers and not one of them has ever tried to push their beliefs on me or even spoke much about their religion unless asked a direct question. Maybe get out and meet people.

What element of our players fasting leads you to think they are an “aggressive religious sect”?

Maybe we should stop recruiting from abroad or prevent Muslims joining the academy so we don’t have to have a 2 minute break in play a couple of times per season.

Illiman is our best player since Currie and is firing us to promotion and Wembley.

If he wants to to stop the match while we all sit and watch him eat a fish supper with bread and butter on the side then that’s fine with me
