Agreed - something football could try and tackle. Instead, the entire focus is on a problem that will never be solved (and barely exists in football outside social media) because we've got a whole load of vested interests needing to justify their fat salaries / existence, coupled with a population who wouldn't dare speak up about it.Good on you for supporting this lads - I look forward to the day a professional player coming out as gay is not even newsworthy, but i fear we have such a long way to go.
Football versus Homophobia reminds me of when I was in the queue in the ticket office behind a dad and has lad a good few years ago. A poster on the wall said ‘Blades Against Racism’. The lad turns to his Dad and says, ‘Dad, when are we playing Racism?”.

This needs to happen. Homophobia exists the same as racism. Black players can't hide away obviously, gay players should be open about it, and let's get it dealt with.Good on you for supporting this lads - I look forward to the day a professional player coming out as gay is not even newsworthy, but i fear we have such a long way to go.

Mostly on kop I’d sayI’d post it elsewhere, but then I went straight from posting on sufc.co.uk to being on here (via a decade or two gap) so wouldn’t have a clue where to find the bigots to bait
Think you'd find more in the south stand, where the old folk are.Mostly on kop I’d say
I'm 10 years older. Growing up, there were only two gay men in the whole country - John Inman and Boy George. I knew the word, but never thought it was a real thing. (as a kid)It needed to happen years ago.
Societally we have moved on in the last few decades from a culture where gay people and homosexuality was demonised, legislated against and effectively treated as second class citizens, but i think with a handful of people their attitudes haven't moved in the same way, and a gay footballer will inevitably face a backlash via social media.
I'm a straight bloke, 44 years old and when I was younger homophobia was prevalent in society which I grew up in. Throwing a homophobic attitude in the bin was a great life choice. I've got plenty of gay friends who I accept for who they are and add value to my life and I value their friendship. I'm good friends with a Blade who I usually speak to at most games at half time and his gay. Doesn't make any odds to me, he is a good bloke, blade and I can have a good laugh with him, what more would you want from a friend?
Fucking hell, they must have bred like rabbits..!I'm 10 years older. Growing up, there were only two gay men in the whole country - John Inman and Boy George.
