Radio Sheffield: Speed it is

This seems a horribly negative post about Speed, about a club appointment. Am I misunderstanding you?

Good luck Speedo, Up The Blades.

I thought Bob was trying to be positive in his post. I.e. it was aimed at people not convinced by the appointment of Speed.

:) not at all. I'm pre-empting the "cheep as chips", "no ambition" posts. I would of liked SoD but I'm happy with Speed.

I don't get this 'cheap option'. Why the fact we haven't gone out and paid mega bucks on compo means that it's in some way negative just looks to me like another pointless moan.

Surely the fact he knows the place, knows the players, knows the fans, the expectations etc etc etc and can get straight down to business is a positive ?

Yes, Speed came right out of left-field

Yes Jim it was a pretty obvious choice but the fact he told everyone last night the job is his and he was miles away (hint) meeting with KM at least confirms that is info is on the money.

He's posted many times and he's never far away.

Would you say he was guessing when he told everyone Paddy was off to QPR weeks before it came to light? He was laughed at and ridiculed, but his info was correct!

and despite the likelyhood of his appointment, certainly wasn't nailed on when E89 "broke" it :)

One day he's going to get caught out with his eagerness to "break" something ;)

Been managed by, Walter Smith, Howard Kendall, Joe Royle, Ruud Gullit, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Bobby Robson, Sam Allardyce, Sammy Lee, and Wilko.

Which aint too shabby, if he brings a bit of all of em

Delighted with the appointment!

I can now return to the Lane a week on Saturday after a year long absence! :-)

And Bryan Robson & Kevin Blackwell...

Plenty of experience he can count on for examples of very good and very poor management.

What a poor, poor replacement.

Cheap, inexperienced and no imagination, although I hope he does well.

Hmm.

He may be cheap (but we don't know the figures).

He may be inexperienced as a manager yes but not as a player (in fact you would struggle to find a more experienced one). Personally, I hope he has an experienced coach alongside him, but if not so be it.

No imagination? (on what basis - doesn't he write good story books?) Seriously, if you think he had much influence over our recent style of play and tactics I think you are mistaken. Every coach has input, but a manager is his own man. Let's see how he does when the buck stops with him.

Speed deserves a chance and our support. One thing we haven't seen from Blades fans really is everyone behind the team, the manager and players. Positivity is required. We need to be United.

Look at his avatar. He's one of.............them.

Usually Foxy he waits until the very last minute.

I could name quite a few ex-players that have turned out to become a good manager. You have to start somewhere, he's been at the club for a while and knows the place well.

Aslong as he gets off to a good start then it could be a good move.

He's got the players to do it. We don't have a bad team and hopefully we can bring in a right back before Sunday. This team is just waiting for someone with imagination, as well as someone they can like. I am buzzin!

D'oh! from me, didn't pay attention. I blame the man flu.

A massive D'oh for him. Pigstalk is elsewhere, now jog on kn0bhead.

DJ UK has been on here for years mate - he's mostly harmless! Even wished us well before Wembley, and how many of us would have wished the Oink well if the boot had been on the other foot? I remember him getting lots of thanks (when we had a thanks button - Linz/Foxy ;))

And he says here that he hopes Speedy does well.

Seems about as good as you're gonna find amongst our hard of thinking neighbours!

Where's Nuddy to tell us off for discussing it ahead of confirmation?

fiery blade have laid down for a while problem still the same i can not see speed as an ideal manager good coach tho will wait and see if he can turn it round but i wont be holding my breath anytime soon

I'm gobsmacked about how we waited till start of season for change. If it was going to be Speed we should have done it in closed season.
Thats the thing that dissapointed me about this, His budget should have been his in closed season to sighn the players he wanted, now he's a bit restricted.
All the same- one thing left to say
Come on Gary Speed, Become a Blades Legend:thumbup:

bloody hell.. we have a likeable manager.. with a full uefa pro licence.. all we need now is a bit of watchable football and we've cracked it.

When the fuss has died down all that has happened is that we have appointed a completely inexperienced manager. Last time we did this it was was Martin Peters and we'd had the opportunity to look at him too. I wish Speed well but am underwhelmed. Looks like a knee jerk sacking and a cheap replacement. We should have had a shortlist and bided time until one of them becomes available. For example when Palace were in trouble last year we could have had Neil back,(not everyones choice but certainly mine) instead we hang on for 6 months and sack Blackwell when it appears there are no better alternatives available than to take a punt on a completely untried and inexperienced manager. How long is the contract and does he have money?

There is always a risk with a fledgling manager, BUT I think this decision has been made shrewdly I believe Speed has gradually been groomed for the job (more than likely without KB's full knowledge!!!) and will have had input into the summer signings, hence the refusal to let him go to Swansea in the summer.

Nigel Spackman? Steve Bruce? Billy McEwan? Okay, forget I said that...

I'm not because at the end of the day McC is a gentleman and Blackie delivered his cost cutting program. Why wouldn't he give him a crack at this season [with conditions that haven't been met].
