I'm not sure what to make of this. If there was a veil of secrecy around Weir's appointment then United's energy would be better placed on finding the leak but if it's a general point about the state of sports reporting in Sheffield then it might be a decent protest.

Lame reason though.

A number of fans will have wanted updates via Radio Sheffield of the press conference despite how shite RS can be.

I wonder if there is another reason they are not welcome - the Morgan appointment press conference.

Pathetic move by United whichever way you slice it.

Seems like the relations between the Blades and Radio Sheff haven't properly recovered after the Ched incident to me

I agree with Balham Blade. On a "like for like" story or a managerial interview the Pigs are always given twice the airtime. It's about time we made a point to these self-important local hacks.

Really? Radio Sheffield seemed to at quite short notice given the club announcment put on a 1-hour special, with the football season over, all on the Weir appointment yesterday evening.

That may have been a response to the fact the United had denied them access to todays press conference!

My experience of listening to their Saturday coverage, especially now I go to very few away games, is that the post-match interviews are timed to ensure approximately twice as long, and usually twice as many, for the Pigs than for us. It's the same on the evening shows. As a licence payer and Blade I fiercely object to that. The Scar is no better. It's something that our PR office should have taken on many times but never had the will or imagination. The RS reporters are just that: jumped-up, mediocre local hacks. We are not dealing with John Arlott, David Coleman or Henry Longhurst here! It's time they were put in their place.

I've said it before and I will again. Just allocate one reporter per club with equal air-time. Problem solved!

Pathetic and petty from the club. There are many very good reasons for United to fall out with RS and indeed the Star(and probably should have done before now) but this issue is really not the one.

and whilst agreeing with the idea that they aren't particularly good, is the best way to put them in their place dennying them, and therefore US, the chance of listening to the manager on the only local station available?

I suspect it's not going to get anything other than "other news" coverage anywhere else so the place where it would get most is now denied to us. Piss poor in my book.

Id heard it was going to be more of a closed shop for the press conference this time anyway and there wasnt really going to be anything to report. We get more info from Foxy and Linz than RS anyway. Let em rot for all I care, just wish my license fee didnt go to them.

Think theres supposed to be an interview with Wier on SSN either at 3:30 or 4:30 for anyone that wants to hear the man himself

The only thing that matters to me is match day commentary but on the rare occasions I catch any other coverage it doesn't sound equal.

They say you shouldn't take on the media but it may well make them think about their relationship with SUFC so I have no problem with United having a dig. If they have at short notice put something on this evening it at least shows they've listened and understood the implication. I expect things to improve a bit now.

There is no hope for the Stir though, I'm amazed it still has a sustainable circulation.

SSN is running a very decent length interview with DW. He was naturally a little nervous, but acquitted himself very well, I thought.

Seems very pathetic.

SUFC are a public outfit with thousands of followers, speculation is bound to surround them. Whether the BBC should report rumour is debatable, but the Daily Mail were reporting about Weir 3 days before he was appointed.

Were not the first ,off the top of my head I remember Barnsley Doncaster ,Matlock and Worksop all banning them for a while.

Alex Ferguson regularly used to ban journo's for weeks, months and even years if they reported false stories or asked him questions he didn't like.

In the age of Twitter and online news sources, do we really need Radio Sheffield?

Totally agree with that. I generally find out about most news and sport through Twitter (or sickopedia for deaths/celebrity arrests normally).

I just occasionally need RS for commentaries.
I simply cannot listen to their football talkins any longer. Drives me insane.
I cannot say that they are biased though, I tried to be objective for a while and couldn't get whether it was Pig swayed or not - My conclusion is that it is just utter Shite....

And don't get me started on about Toby Foster..........

Don't really support the club on this, not everyone has the Internet, I guess they had their own strong reasons.

I clashed with Shamir Nasri over Ched and then bumped into him the night before last years play off final. The difference between him and the tools at RS was striking . He explained the Ched business how he was set up and we ended up having a few drinks and a good chat. I found him humorous ,intelligent and interesting and he also told a few home truths about the amateurs on Radio Pig and their reputation within the BBC. Enough said :)
