Questions for the manager?

Frees and loans the main marker but have some money for fees it seems.

Hamer will be used in a central position but not exclusively ( so really kinda like how last year he was a wide player but not really!)

Arblaster not fit until mid September

Sounds like last season I suppose, we only paid 3 permanent fees (Moore, Burrows and Cooper), while the rest were frees and loans.

Needing around 4/5 more players (IMO), it will be interesting to see what the squad looks like at the end of the window.

I did laugh at the save our pigs comment but overall I think radio Sheffield do a really good job.

Obvious question is what is the budget after today's article saying from football league world saying it's loans and frees. Is he able to reinvest the Souza deal for example. And when are the next incomings likely.
Why even acknowledge that click bait bollocks?

Selles has just said it's frees and loans for now so I think whilst it might be clickbait it appears to be right!

What's your thoughts now Sean Thornton and is it possible for you to reply without usual sarcasm?

I'm not a fan of clickbait sites neither but they're often the first to break stories such as Wilders job under consideration/review which has now turned out to be true, obviously!

Not ruled that one out to be honest, probably show just how pathetic some of the fansbase is!

Or perhaps they disagreed with the decision and want to make a point publicly, in the only way available to them.

As I've said before, I'm a Blade and want us to flourish under RS. Unfortunately I think it was a poor decision to sack CW, and a worse one to replace him with RS. Apart from moaning on here, how do I get this view across to our owners?

He didn't just say that though, he said that they are monitoring players that are available for fees and that if needed the money is there for signings but they were focussing right now on frees and loans.

It was a bit of a bizarre portion of the interview where he jumped back and forward

Don't. Accept it, move on and get behind the the new manager& team. Its time some fans grew up ffs!

I knew someone would point to that, and I get that. But for the manager to come out and be that honest tells me that we're essentially back to where we were last summer but with a less proven manager. I really like Selles I just want to add, he does impress me.

I also appreciate we spent money on Cannon last January and presumably a lot of the budget has gone on that transfer. I actually think Cannon will surprise a few this season.

I don't expect us to go out and spend big. But it would be nice for a couple of permanent signings. Cooper and Burrows types for example. But the window is not closed yet and I suspect if another leaves for big money like Peck then we'll see one or two come in permanently.

It doesnt appear that we've got big money owners like Birmingham but there's few of those around outside of the championship. In fact they're alone really. Barnsley have big money owners but they don't spend owt.

I do like the policy of signing young talent for small fees from Scotland etc. These types of signings have been really successful over the years.

I'm surprised he admitted that we do have money to spend on fees to be honest. It's something managers and clubs usually keep close to their chest

It makes sense to go for frees and loans at this early stage. Then if we don’t get in right targets, spend money. No point spending money if we don’t need to.

I think, maybe cynically, that it translates to if we sell another player for over £10m then we'll reinvest some of that into players who will be a permanent transfer fee. As you rightly say in fairness, if we're able to sign a free agent who is as good as a transfer fee then great, like Campbell for example.

But I'm just a tad disappointed that it doesn't seem different to last summer under the Prince in terms of budget. Also if it's loans and they do well but we don't go up then you have to start again the season after and you lose key players with no benefit of a transfer fee to reinvest.

You think it's pathetic for Sheffield United fans to sing a song about a former Sheffield United player and manager who achieved so much with us? Shall we stop singing songs about Woodward, Currie and Eddie Colquhoun, or about Jack O'Connell and his magic hat, as well?

Would you also like us to tear down Joe Shaw's statue, Jimmy Hagan's bust, all the photos of former players, and all the walls and panels with former players' names on, that people have paid to have personalised bricks on?

Maybe what's really pathetic, is people who call themselves Sheffield United supporters, being completely unable to appreciate what successful former Sheffield United players and managers have done for this club.

I enjoyed listening to that. He seems calm and composed and respectful towards the interviewer and his questions.
I liked what he said about using the camp to instil his philosophy rather than fitness, saying (if I heard correctly) that the physicality would just be a platform to implement the philosophy.
And his several references to the way he was educated in terms of how he treats people, was good to hear — sounds like his managerial approach is down to the way he's been brought up, not management methods he's picked up on a course.
I don't think I learned anything we didn't already know about how we'll play, apart from Hamer being central and close to the ball.

Good to hear that he and his assistants work as a team and complement each other, the inference being that it's not all about him.

Overall, a big thumbs up from me, even though my fecking questions weren't asked.

Worth noting as well, that most signings this early in preseason, often fall into one of three categories.

Players deemed surplus to requirements:
Bindon coming on loan, Doyle to Birmingham on loan. Forest sanctioned the move because they identified that Bindon would not be part of their squad early doors.

Player wants the move:
Souza to Wolfsburg, he probably wanted the move so we sanctioned it early to give us more time to find a replacement.

Offer too good to turn down:
Bellingham to Sunderland, regardless of whether he's rated or not, would anyone really turn down £32m for him?, he might have pushed for the move as well.

Take Ash Phillips at Spurs for example, linked with a move away, then Thomas Frank says he wants to have a look at him in preseason, doesn't mean he won't leave Spurs this summer, just not straight away, Frank might not want him to be sold but might allow him to go out on loan instead.

Fair play to Rob Staton, plenty of the questions he asked, were suggested on here.

Good interview imo and Ruben Selles came across well and very passionate.
His passion looks like it will be shown in different ways than what we have been used to over recent months (refering to 'first love' when talking about his coaching team 😂)

It was a good listen and again, well done Rob Staton for listening to the requests/suggested questions from the fans (something I am critical of him when he!'s on FH, is not listening and just having his own agenda).
