Punching above your weight

Good assessment mate. I was expecting more from your lot, first half I couldn't believe how powderpuff and lacking in creative edge you were, and then the wonder strike!
At half time when the big lad was being warmed up, I knew you were changing tack as you'd been so much second best ( but still ahead eh! Footballs a funny old game), but I couldn't believe how clumsy he looked even warming up and thought he was on coaching staff or summary, he changed the game by being unbelievably shit, an even funnier game eh!
As for the tackle, its easy to post stills and say, hey, look at that! In real time I thought it was a great win of the ball, maybe a booking in the modern game (I also thought Sordell's leg breaker on Coutts was a fair, honest challenge!). But I'm a product of 1970's football and love a good honest challenge that wins the ball, so I'm just a tackle dinosaur.
All in all we should have put you to bed first half and didn't, I hope you're right about us both in play offs, I have my doubts...

Add me to the tackle dinosaur list too.

I won't say we are playing above our weight, has Wilder said we have earned all our points. We have lost plenty of games but we are high up because we are willing to go for it, btw it makes watching your team alot more fun when they put everything on the line.
We are on a bad run and teams like Bristol City/ Norwich ect come with the tatics of constant niggly fouls/ pushes ect untill they get stopped by the ref which they didn't, that plus a good strike like Citys first and our luck in us hitting the post/bar 4 times makes out to be another frustrating game.

Fair post from Fordy I thought - as another Bristol City fan.

A few bitter & twisted responses, which is surprising as he was so complimentary.

“Punching above your weight” just means doing incredibly well this season, after underachieving in League One for a few years. From promotion straight into the top six is a great achievement, far better than we did two years ago. We also went gung ho, with Steve Cotterill refusing to change his 352 formation, but it failed and he had to go.

I don’t think anybody outside Sheffield would disagree with the ref about the red card. Wilder’s made himself look a bit needy there.

Judging by that game, your position is obviously well justified. Some of you think ours isn’t - but one match isn’t a fair basis to judge. We’ve played really well at times, to outclass teams like Boro and Fulham, and dug in at times to get wins we didn’t really deserve over the 90 minutes, like at your place and Hull. That’s a good combination. Even when mediocre, we can be hard to beat.

At the start of this season, 95% of Bristol City fans would have been happy with a solid mid table position and a good few thought we’d be relegated. So I’d say we are punching above our weight, even if you don’t think you are. What you’ve done over the last 100 years counts for nothing though.

Substitute 'weight' for 'budget', and it's a whole lot clearer. On that basis we are clearly punching above our budget. Only two words required to explain that, Wilder and Knill.

I was one of those.

One man's 'complimentary' is another's 'patronising bastard'.

But “patronising” assumes we are looking down on you, which obviously we’re not. In current terms the two clubs are in a very similar position. If you want to rely on history, then obviously you have a stronger pedigree. I don’t know about your ownership, but ours makes us stronger than most other fans realise. You deserve respect - but please, have some class.

Great thread title, you patronising wurzel bastard.

Why not go back to your own board and pontificate about our 'journeymen' on there?

Generally I don't mind opposition fans coming on here but your patronising tone misses the point completely.
I’ll watch your progress with interest. You’re a good team there and hopefully you’ll take some point off our rivals at the top. I imagine we’ll both be in the playoffs at the end of the season.

What's patronizing about that?

He was certainly being patronising when he asked if we had played our neighbours yet, ****
