I am tipping Man City V Gillingham in the Champions League Final

Then we will see what Pelligrini has got

Yaya !! Pah !!

Man City v Gillingham 1999 third division play off final . City 2-0 down but win 3-2 . The start of the rise and rise of Man City plus millions of pounds to help on the way.

What's the solution then? Set the bar for staying in league 1 and be happy that we aren't getting relegated? Its called progress. Bournemouth wouldn't be in the Prem without setting the bar higher whilst we are still here, dreaming of the championship.
Bournemouth wouldn't be in the PL if their Russian owner hadn't invested a decent amount of money.

And the other teams that got promoted? Rotherham? Brentford? Bristol C? MK Dons? Preston? Huddersfield? Charlton? The Fowls?

We have invested more than most in this pub league and are still here. Its not more investment that we need, its getting better players with the investment that we have used.

You seem to be replying to a point I haven't made.

Getting players with the investment we have? I'm not sure I get you.

Apologies if my post wasn't clear fella. I'm a teacher and its the summer hols so my standards tend to slip a bit :0)

My original point was, if we don't aim higher then we wont ever get out of league 1, I mentioned Bournemouth as they aimed higher and now are 2 divs higher than us. You pointed out it was because of the investment, I was merely suggesting we have more than enough 'game changing' investment in us to do the same.

We have invested in some crap players. Bournemouth invested in some decent ones and are now 2 divs higher than us.

When you say 'we should aim higher' who do you mean and how?

this may come as a shock nut after 5 seasons here gillingham are now our peers ie same level
whatever level you think we should be at

we arent and havent been a top club
for 40 years 5 seasons apart

if you keep setting our bar higher than it is your heading for even more disappointment
we had a good 6 year run of virtual success under warnock and 5 under bassett but that apart weve been cack

I find this a bizarre reply to the post you quoted as replying to.

My post was explaining that WBA losing at home to Man City is not as bad a result for them as us losing at Gillingham, as was implied, perhaps jokingly in the OP.

Of course it isn't a shock nut (whatever that actually means) that Gillingham are our peers. That's the point I was making!!!!!
Gillingham are our peers and we should be competing with them, thus a 4-0 defeat is poor, and reaction to it predictable.
WBA are NOT MC's peers as they are competing to survive and MC are competing to win trophies (thus the same division, different league comment) so losing to them is absolutely expected and anything else would have been a bonus.

Are you seriously suggesting we should be setting our sights lower than winning at Gillingham?

Mr Harris
Mr Kendall
Mr Spackman

Well how about Luke Freeman for starters? We should have got him yrs ago before Bristol C got their grubby mits on him and stuck Murphy on the right or played him up top. We should be competing in trying to sign the likes of Callum Wilson as well and Alan Judge and the like, and of course the big one, defenders! I think letting Butler go was a crap decision. Brayford was a great signing don't get me wrong, and the sooner he gets back from injury the better, but our defence is shat. I do however think Done and Che Adams will be great signings, but we seem to sign players reactively, rather than proactively (meaning we buy after a below par start to a season) and this summer seems to have been no different (tho in time I hope im proved wrong).

Sorry, I meant define 'we'.

Agree that the club signs reactively. It seems to be a recurring theme.

The board mainly are the we, and possibly the last few managers also.
So, going back to my original point; we need to invest more.

We both agree the current squad isn't good enough and we could have spent the money more wisely.

But we haven't. So what we need now is more money for the new manager to spend wisely. We can't wait to shift out the fringe players because I doubt clubs are desperate to sign them. We can send some of the kids out on loan but that won't be a huge saving as they don't get paid much.

So the only viable options are to either give NA more money to bring in good players, or sell one or two of our better players to raise the funds. And over the last few seasons the latter hasn't worked out well.

mr harris was over 40 years ago

kendaññ and spackman only did what wilson did
the nay sayers say getting to a play off and not going up is failure
Spackman didn't get us to a playoff.

no he didnt but grumpy said they were good seasons

but they didnt go up
so matched wilson
Yes but in Spackman's case we started well and then the board flogged our best players whereas with Wilson...

Ok, you've got a point.
