I've had my fun and that's all that matters.
Go for a pint at the Banner, Hammer, PoW and Rising Sun
There's an actual pub called ''The Prisoner Of War''?

Go for a pint at the Banner, Hammer, PoW and Rising Sun
You’d have to be mad to take on one of the pubs near the ground that rely solely on match days to keep going.
The rents charged by the pubco owners are eye-watering, the landlord will be tied to a purchase agreement for beer with little to no discount, and the chance to make money from food will be small. These pubs have struggled for years, I’m just surprised that some of them have lasted so long. Attracting new customers on days when there’s no football will be hard, as most of the pubs in question are, to be diplomatic, not at the high end of the market. Not many people would want to spend their evening in a crappy pub with crap beer, given that the alternatives like the Beer Engine are cleaner, friendly and with a good selection of proper beer.
Well that's cheered me up Cerberus BladeGo for a pint at the Banner, Hammer, PoW and Rising Sun for me. I'll reciprocate here in IOM. Karaoke at Manx Arms tonight

I managed to get a beer at a pub last night. Not any of the ones you mention though. And what a bloody farce it is!
I phoned up in advance to ask if I could just walk in or whether I needed to book a time slot. The girl who answered didn't seem at all sure! Either that or she's been taking communication lessons from Boris Johnson? She said..."errr...well, you could do, errrm...you don't have to....but it's probably best if you do do....". So I did did.
When we got there I said, "We've booked a table for 2, do we just sit anywhere or do you want us to sit on a specific table?". The bloke said, "sit where you want to if you like...or did you say you've booked? If you've booked then I'd go and ask them over there if they've already put you on a table".
So I asked the lass at the bar and she said, "you're on table 4, that's over there, but sit where you like, if you like". Then she explained the ordering process to me. She gave me a leaflet that was like a bar menu with all the drinks on it. On the back, in really small print, it has the name of their app/website. "Have a look at the menu and decide what you want, then you have to order it via the app and pay for it, and when you've paid for it, we'll get it ready and then you can collect it".
So I sat there, typing the website name into my phone - then scrolling through the menu to find what I wanted, based on what I'd read in the leaflets she gave us, then ordered. Then I got an email saying my order had been received and it would be ready in 5 minutes. Then I got up and went to the bar to fetch it.
The good news is, it was nice beer and wine and it was great to just be able to go out again and have a drink in public. We ended up going for a meal and it was weird as well. They sat us on a table big enough for 6 people and when they brought the food and the cutlery they put it at the far end of the table and walked off, like they were feeding wild animals or summat! Bizarre!
I enjoyed going out for a change for a drink and a meal, but...if this is what going out will entail in the future I honestly don't think I'll be doing it anywhere near as often as I used to.
Not in Dublin mate €5 plus and that’s the cheaper shite stuffFuck me. £4.10 for Carling!!!? Could go to any number of pubs in almost any city and pay less than that for something that could reasonably be classed as "Beer."![]()
The stuff we get in England has been brewed in Dublin since the brewery in London closed in 2005, so it’s their fault we get muck. Not in Dublin mate €5 plus and that’s the cheaper shite stuff
Peroni and Bia M costs north of €6 in most boozers that do it
But A pint of Arthur’s finest ( not the muck you get in the U.K. ) is cheaper , I don’t buy the Cork rubbish either
Sorry mate but that’s BSThe stuff we get in England has been brewed in Dublin since the brewery in London closed in 2005, so it’s their fault we get muck.
When I was in the pub trade I trained staff to pour Guinness properly, never in one go but to let it settle and then finish it at the end of the round. And this is from Wikipedia - “The Guinness brewery in Park Royal, London closed in 2005. The production of all Guinness sold in the UK and Ireland was switched to St. James's Gate Brewery Dublin.” Hardly BS.Sorry mate but that’s BS
The only reason it’s brewed / poured / and served like it is over there is people wouldn’t/ aren’t prepared to let it settle properly, if a barman gave you a pint like that in Dublin ( push a button then serve it up ) it’s be fucked back over the bar at him
It’s the same with hophouse 13 , it’s absolute piss in Sheffield but a decent pint here , it’s brewed to suit the English palate and pocket ,

Shoreham mate I’m not disputing anything that your sayingWhen I was in the pub trade I trained staff to pour Guinness properly, never in one go but to let it settle and then finish it at the end of the round. If your Guinness is served incorrectly over here that’s the fault of the bar staff and the person who trained them. It doesn’t alter the fact that it’s been brewed in Dublin since 2005.
Anyone who calls it Wethers needs their bumps feeling. It's Spoons and it'll never be anything else, and apart from the fact they open early and serve an ok breakfast for a pittance -, they're all fucking rubbishAnyone supping in Wethers needs their bumps feelings. Get down your local independent.

On occasion, depending on how busy the pub was and how arsed I could be.Did you put a Shamrock on the Top ?

You won’t get a decent pint of hop house 13 BBI love hop house but I can’t get a decent pint of that anywhere in town. It’s just not worth drinking.
Went to Dublin last year and was amazed at how much better the beer in general was not just Guinness, even in the busier tourist bits. We only had one in temple bar mind (fucking how much?)
Correct me if I’m wrong mate, but I got the feeling it’s a bit more European over there in that there’s a lot more pride in working behind a bar rather than it just being a part time job for students.
