You're a...............Student???????

Nah Snowy. Think you're confusing a visible youth presence in this area with the fact that there are also residents of what you might call a mature age.

I might be what some refer to as elderly, but I haven't lost my appetite to experience these new fangled beat dives that masquerade as emporiums of lifestyle coffee.

There's no drink available here in Baghdad. All this talk of beer is making me a tad jealous. At least we got to catch the Chezzy destruction over here! Hoping to get back (in one piece) in time for Charlton away!
Keep watching sky TV and you could well see a Blades shirt on a flagpole in Mosul in the very near future!

Beat Dive! Excellent. Straight out of Expresso Bongo with Cliff Richard. The Sidewalk on Chapel Walk was a Beat place when I was a kid.

So I've been told. I live opposite The Sentinel and can be found in there during the week, usually for a meeting. Nice, laid-back vibe and just a tad different from the usual watering-hole.
Been in with my two lads last two home games, surprisingly empty I have to say. Maybe that could be the beer prices which are rather steep, but the match day chip butty + pint for £6 is a decent deal ( great chip butty too!)

Keep away from the Howard shite away pub
Rutland expensive beer food is ok its gone down hill as a pub
Fannys (Lord Nelson) dont do food but great beer and friendly
Sentinel is OK but expensive beer

I thought it was all student accommodation there (I work very close to The Sentinal). Where's the residential accomodation?

If he gets in at 12 then the city is your Oyster. No pub near the ground can beat the Heeley 3 (White lion, sheaf view and Shakespeare/ brothers) and in 3 hours a decent ale man can cover the Kelham Island posse with a taxi road crew in support.

The kid may get fed up of Canada Dry, but as a young Blade every away day was Canada Dry through a paper straw..

You can't come to ale Mecca and mess about with crap drinking places. You have the reputation of the City to consider...

Go in the Railway. Directly behind the away stand. Used to have a reputation as a knuckler pub but now under new owership is very away fan friendly. Very reasonably priced real ales and European lagers. You might even get a pork pie too!

No WH, it's a mix of residents and students, at least the block that I'm in, the one at the junction of Shoreham St and Matilda St
I think a lot of the new central apartment blocks get tagged as student flats. I don't think the ones around Leadmill are. The Forge along London Road yes. The brick blocks next the The Sheaf yes. Anchor Point next to the Lane NO! I'm in Anchor Point and often get asked "Aren't they student flats?" They're private developments and a lot of the flats get bought by private landlords and letting agencies and some do get rented to students. There's some students in Anchor Point but not many.

Yep been in, nice beer, not cheap, nice food as well, you can pick up a free loyalty card and get 10% off everything

We were there after the MK game and found out about the 10% discount a few days later.

Oh well, it's only money and we enjoyed it until the financial bombshell of having overpaid by £8 :)

Go in the Railway. Directly behind the away stand. Used to have a reputation

Many, many, many years ago, 2 Sunderland fans thought it would be funny to walk into the Railway post-match and start singing. They both got battered by a woman (who probably saved them a far worse kicking). T'was highly amusing.

Agree with that. Class place these days and never all that busy.

Rutland for the worlds best chip butties.

I'm going to retract this. Chips are still as good as ever, but instead of being served in a floury breadcake it seems they've gone 'artisanal', and are now serving it in a granary seeded bap.

Why meddle with a perfect formula?
