It's hard to get excited about narrowly beating an awful team at home in a disastrous season. I am however, starting to wonder if we are going to complete spoz it this year....

Port vale were a good side then ( i would guess one of their best ever periods in history )
We were in a promotion race when no one expected us to be with the pressure that brings
It was late in the season and three points were a must
We won and people did complain ,never watched the united documentary ?
Our crowd was about 15000 that day
Mainly because we were a long ball team and many wouldnt attend to watch that style of play

Next ridiculous comparison please

the level of complaint was minimal
we enjoyed winning then
its an art form weve lost apparently

no matter how good the port vale team was
now like then they were one of our peers , in the same league

we have as much right to dismiss them as cack now as we did then

It wasn't a great performance but it was a win and performance that showed some improvement and from which we can take some positives. Namely:

Che Adams looking somewhere near back to his best.
Billy back amongst the goals.
Reed showing more promise and attacking intent
Flo returning from injury
A new system which looked fairly promising admittedly, against limited opposition.
A commanding defensive display.

Arse....Thoroughly enjoyed today. A few pints in the Sheaf View with good friends. Off to the match,18,000 a great performance. Lovely goal by Billy Sharp. Excellent in defence, clean sheet, then off to town for more beer and to celebrate! Great day! Love it, love it, love it! UTB:)
There was no protest planned on Saturday, keep up fella

There was no protest planned on Saturday, keep up fella

You are quite right flash-blade, there was no protest Saturday or at least none that I could see. There was a protest after Shrewsbury in the form of boooos, and at Bury at the end of the match, numerous booos and abuse of the players and staff. I imagine had we lost Saturday there would have been a protest too.

You can maybe excuse me for thinking there would be a protest Saturday with a few 'Protest Saturday' threads one running to 90 odd posts. Also how do you know there was no planned protest for Saturday? Although I believe you held a meeting at a pub you can't surely speak for all Blades supporters? Do keep up fella ;)

For what it is worth no-one (I imagine) fans, club, manager, staff, players are happy with the progress (or lack of) over the last five seasons in league one and I do think your suggestion in another post about a constructive meeting with the board to air your concerns and to seek dialogue about the future of the club is a sensible one. However I suppose my concern is that on what authority do you or whoever would be present fans at such a meeting fully represent the views of all or a majority of fans?

It might well just represent the views of the fans who like to protest against the club for example the 'Wilson out' protest, and the Brian the Blade types. There are many fans who whilst not happy with the progress of the club accept that the board are backing the club, and the management are trying their best. Clearly not your view and I of course have no problem with that but will these fans be represented too in your meetings?

So keep up the good work and I can see no harm whatsoever about sensible dialogue with the club as we all have the same aim of seeing us progress. UTB.....

I don't speak for all Blades, who can? I certainly don't speak for BTB or the Wilson out brigade, I thought it was disgusting to protest when he was appointed, no one protested when Bromby, Quinn and Geary played, all gave their all for us. I also thought McCabe sacking Wilson at the time he did was mind boggling, why not wait 6 games until he either fails or finishes the job. Rightly or wrongly we know and have spoken to many people within the club and its not good to hear what is going off.

I'm not saying I'm the man to take this forward, I'm far too passionate and I say it as it is rather than be diplomatic, but we had a meeting between fans that care enough to turn up and voice their views. If as you suggest I have no authority (who does) and I cant represent all our fans views, how the hell do you represent the views of 20k people, all have different views. We are representing our group, a very concerned group at 7 years of decline and maybe another 2 seasons in this league, some fans don't see it as failure and there in represents a problem in itself, we are now sleepwalking into acceptance of failure and the excuses of failure. Form your own group, a 'happy that everyone's trying' group. Your name suggest your from Mosboro? so am I so introduce yourself and we can have a chat over a shandy. We all want the same thing at the end of the day UTB

Excellent post flash but I have to disagree with you on protest in connection with the appointment of Wilson. Whilst it may have mattered to a few he had previous Wednesday connections the majority were protesting about the appointment of another crap manager.

Was i mistaken or did I hear a large boo when Coutts came on , he deserved it for his last effort.

It sounded more like "Cooouuuuutttttsssss", like when the crowd you used to shout "Sccooouuugggaaalllll" when the little lad came on

Great reply flash-blade. Its difficult to argue with any of that and it does sound as if you or whoever was at the meeting are doing things in the right manner. I do like the sound of the 'happy that everyone's trying' group, are you in? ;)

Keep up the good work and I am sure you will keep the forum updated. Thoroughly agree with the mind boggling nature of Wilson's sacking btw.

Would that be the same Wilson who went on to become the manager who has the highest win percentage of all permanent managers in the entire history of Sheffield United? You know, that Wilson. o_O

Ha, 100 people turned up with banners because of his Wednesday connections, you know that. He's the only crap manager that's ever got abused into the club and we've had plenty. He also got us playing the best football I've seen in the past 8 years, highest scores in all leagues, granted he had a good team. I'm not saying for one minute he was great but I thought it sacking was ill timed to say the least, it was a head scratch moment just as giving Blackwell all summer then sacking him after 4 games was, Blackwell should have been sacked at the end of the season giving a new manager time, he should have been sacked anyhow simply for signing Craig effing Beattie.

Ha, we're all trying to try, so lets try to form a trying to try group, I'm in. UTB

Was it that Wilson who tried to get Bristol City out of L1 for 3 years and failed, followed by Johnson who got them out the season after?

I didn't mind his piggy connection - he was just an average manager and he did the same for us - just kept us average.

As for his percentage - just dropped lucky with a certain Ched Evans.

Chezzer is his level - we'll see how he performs with not a lot of expectation carried on his shoulders - good luck to him and Morgs though.

UTB

I live in a strange land where supporters give support

I get disgruntled at times
but i dont continually live that life as it has no future

some people love wallowing in misery , negativity and have no vision of a brighter future , its just not for me

And yet in all the managers we've had since our relegation, he's brought us closest to success.

Yet you've called for the manager's head in the last week?

How does saying you think the manager should be sacked count as support in your world?

supporting my club, only want whats best for the club
its an opinion
, dont you put some on here, you saying I cant have one but you can

individuals come and go

were you all for keeping Weir
I wanted us to keep Blackwell , we probably wouldnt be here if he stayed.. again just an opinion

You're the one who preaches about being supportive and being a 'true blade' from your armchair whilst slagging our fans off for being negative.

And at the same time wanting to getting manager sacked.

Most sensible people would see the contradiction here.

it was a head scratch moment just as giving Blackwell all summer then sacking him after 4 games was, Blackwell should have been sacked at the end of the season giving a new manager time.

It was after two games. Credible 1-1 draw at Cardiff then 3-0 home defeat to QPR
