Pros and Cons - Wolves at home

Two bang average teams. Broke into a game of football for 20 minutes second half. Deserved a point but defended too deep as usual last 10 minutes. It was coming.
They looked average today but they will be top 6 easy and have something we don’t have anymore
- quality from the bench there subs v our subs swung the game their way

Pros = we played oreyt.
Cons = we lost.

Can’t see Wolves getting top two based on that, goalie flapping and we got round back of em a fair bit and should have done better really.

UTB.

We didn’t.

We brought on both Ayew and Cannon and had three attacking players up front.

There are two teams though and they also had quality additions to bring on.

I don’t see how the intent to have a go can be criticised when we finish with Ayew, Bamford and Cannon on the field at the end.

From 64 mins when he made those subs we were all over them for about 10-15 minutes.

They just had more quality in key moments.

It’s not about personnel on the pitch it’s about approach and mentality.

We settled for a point from 80 mins plus. From 80 mins the only possible outcomes were draw or wolves win.

Cons -
Ran out of steam last 10- wheras Wolves were sprinting to take corners, our team looked shattered.
I didn't think Choudhurry body laguage was very good.
BBD looked slow in both body and mind.
The loss of Hamer/Brooks and COH - was glaring for all to see.
The benches told a big story.

Pros -
WE had a style of play!! Well done Wilder
We didn't get battered.
Players that performed well Cooper/ Tangy/ Kitching/ Peck/ Phillips/ Blaster/ McCallum
The effort was 100% there cannot fault commitment.
Very unlucky not to get a point - although I think that would have felt like a win.

Our moment was when Cannon put a decent ball in the six yard box, I looked across hoping to see a player put it in the empty net, but no one was there. Oh, for Billy Sharp to have been playing!
Same with Ayew, if his cross/shot was just a little less hard, Cannon would have been there to walk it in.

You're nuts, if we were having a front 3 why not Ayew Cannon and Donovan or a front 2 of Cannon and Donovan where are you seeing just one midfielder??? Peck, Ayew, could have moved Choudury into his natural midfield position, loads of options rather than bringing Rothwell on which makes us retreat 10 yards FFS
At the point in the game that sub got made, you are completely forgetting Bamford.

We had Ayew, Bamford and Cannon on.

Yet you want to take off one of only two central midfield players and bring in a winger.

We’d be playing 5-1-4!

Not against Donovan at all. But if he was coming on it would be instead of one of the forwards, not a midfielder.

Fair play to Chris, got the tactics right today and the subs were also ok. What let us down was the absence of any quality when we got into good positions at the top end of the pitch which is really frustrating. I just don't rate BBD and although I like Bamford but he can be a bit to casual at times. They should have had a penalty and created better opportunities albeit without testing Cooper. Overall the score was probably about right, just gutting that the goal was conceded so late.

Cons. First half was 45 minutes I will never get back. It is supposed to be an entertainment business. The gaps in the crowd will get bigger. (The reduction of season ticket holders will really hurt us, dull football last season and price increase).

Lack of ambition.

No attacking outlet, BBD is not going to do it for us.

Pros

Kitching, great defensive challenge, and the great crosses.
Blaster, was better, whilst Phillips was on as did not have to do the defensive side. Kept it simple, though we really need him to be creating something. Unfortunately shortcomings on show after Phillips went off.

Peck back on it.

I would like to see us start with today’s line up, but with Donovan in for BBD (and obviously Seriki for Choudhury once he’s fit)

A lot of positives for United. We largely contained arguably the best squad in the league whilst getting valuable minutes in a lot of players legs. Choudhury, Arblaster, BBD and Phillips will all benefit from that going forward, and three of the four (not BBD) were really good. We overplayed at times when we should've put the ball in the box and our final ball was also lacking. It's a shame McCallum got injured/cooked as Donovan was the next sub on. I'd have loved him to have seen him running at them for a bit. It's a big positive that we are beasting our players with game time with them seeming to emerge unscathed (touches wood). I thought physically we were there until about 80 minutes which is a step in the right direction.

I thought the ref was pretty poor. He missed a Wolves pen and booked McCallum after two minutes for an innocuous looking challenge before letting a lot of potential yellow card offences for Wolves go. They were hacking our lads down on the edge of their box and shirt pulling to stop counters and he wasn't interested.

Pro's were..Midfield looked better,Phillips Peck & Blaster,plus the back 5 aswell and Coops.
Cons...Zero press,no service to the front lads..not enough coming from wide areas and hardly tested their keeper, totally shot shy and no pace or threat in behind.
Deserved a draw for me but late on they pushed, got crosses in,and we couldn't get out,and there was always a chance they might profit from one of the crosses late on.

It shouldn’t bother me but the fans and their stupid fucking accents boiled my piss more than anything else. Completely silent all game and finally found their voices after the goal. Can’t remember a sold out away end that quiet for a while.

The big con was the last 15 minutes. It was a completely even game, yet we decided to try and hold off and they tried to win. Why? So so frustrating, I’m not saying we needed all out attack but just like Cardiff and swansea it was US that decided a draw was enough and the other team that was going for it.

So frustrating watching your team play for 20 minutes with ‘I hope they don’t score’ it never seems to be ‘I hope we score’. That’s a pure mentality issue. I’d say from the manager but ofcourse players are not blameless
Because our legs had gone. Drop deep, hold on for dear life. As I said before, their goal was inevitable. Our only response was two long throws, hope for a flick on and get the second ball. A pretty blunt approach which rarely works.

We looked pretty solid at the back, with the extra man in there. But we are weak as piss in the middle of the park. For me this is our biggest failing, with nobody seemingly able to provide defence splitting ball for our forwards to run onto.

Thought that midfield 3 worked well today as we had a bit of everything out of them playing as a team, downside was that Phillips and Blaster can't play the full 90, and when both had gone off we weren't the same team.

McCallum did really well at LWB, but we need Seriki and Burrows back (at least 1) sharpish as our wide threat disappeared when McCallum went off.

Ayew looked good in patches, but at times he just needs to be a bit more aware of where the opposition players are when he's in possession as he lost it far too easily sometimes.

That being said, had Ayew actually tried to play the ball across the box to Cannon rather than going for goal himself (looked like he was going for the bottom corner), Cannon would have got on the end of that for a tap in.

I thought Bamford was alright if nothing else, but for me, Cannon should have started ahead of BBD as he is clearly playing with a bit of confidence after that Blackburn goal.

Agree on their keeper. He was a liability for them. Complaining of being fouled every time anyone went near him on a high ball. Pathetic.
