Promotion dilemma

I think Wilder would keep us up there avoiding relegation. But that is IF we do get promoted to the promise land (long way to go yet).

I don't think Wilder will want to disrupt the current squad, maybe bring in some replacements for the likes of Dowell, Hendo etc.
 
Realiatically if we do go up then we’ll struggle without massive investment. Especially with the tools at the top falling out in the courts. I trust wilder to have us competing at any level, reckon he could keep us up.

I’m still torn if I actually want to see us go up though.... Some might think I’m crazy but I like going to matches expecting us to win and I enjoy seeing us play front foot attacking football at the top end of the division. Yes, going up secures a huge cash boost realistically making us financially more secure for the forseable. I’m just not sure if avoiding relegation is as exciting as chasing promotion.

If we go up we’re likely to be fighting for every point against teams that have cost 100’s of millions. Multimillionaire Fanny’s are going to be rolling around on the floor asking for bookings every 20 seconds and we’ll be the underdogs all season.

I want to see our players and staff get the reward they deserve for this season, which is cap it off with a promotion and almighty party. I’m just a bit apprehensive about would happen after.

You want to see us win but not go up? Not sure how that works.

If we lose from Pig match onwards that would see us dip out the top 6 and secure ya wish :-)

I’m only old enough to really remember one, which I did enjoy - apart from the heartbreak at the end.

I want to see us win every week, get the reward our players and staff deserve.

I’m just loving every minute of being the best team I’ve seen in our division this year. Realistically we’ll never see that in the PL in our lifetime.

Logic suggest we don’t have a prayer of staying up if we go up to the PL.

But it’s looking more and more like we have a very....very...very...special manager who can perform miracles.
Nothing would surprise me with Wilder, we might even have a top half finish on our return to the PL and I’m being serious.

Would be really interesting seeing Wilders approach at Anfield and the Etihad. Would expect him to go there attacking instead of parking the bus but that might leave us open to a thrashing.

When we go up, we will win the league with exactly the same squad and then win the champions league the following season.

Yes, of course it's premature to consider promotion, and I speak as someone who has already delivered a tongue in cheek post about this exact topic.

The amount of money Wilder will have is dependent on who owns the club, plus we will receive a huge amount towards the end of our first season in the Prem, so the ability to juggle finances will be crucial. One of the variables that rarely gets spoken about is who wil respond to the demands of the Premiership? Basham is a good example of someone that once looked mediocre at best in Div 1, yet now is the first name on the team sheet, so who can tell who'll be able to play at this level?

We'll need a 'Keeper of course, plus dependent on whether contracts are signed, we will need to look at replacements for players who seek their fortunes elsewhere. We will learn from the likes of H'field (I hope) but experience is key, so the type of player is vital to our ability to respond quickly to the demands that playing in the Prem will confront us with.

I look at Crystal Palace, they've 2 or 3 very skilful players, one or two very savvy players, and the rest tend to be rated at varying levels of competency. Would they be a good example to follow, or do we, as we've tended to do since Wilder took control, just put faith in our manager and be guided through what will be a very tough campaign. We'll lose more games than we've been used to, we'll sometimes question Wilder's decisions, but if we manage to get past the 40 point mark with a bit to spare, enabling us to continue in the Prem, then that will be a huge success for us. One of the things I like about Wilder and Knill is that they're fast learners, so whatever shortcomings we have, I'd like to think that they, and the players, will rapidly show they're able to adapt and improve.
 
We will have nothing to spend, come bottom, lowest ever points total.

No i don't want promotion, i'd rather stay here and be like Ipswich.

We'd obviously find it much harder than every other club ever to be promoted wouldn't we, we're only Sheffield United......

Oh and never talk about promotion, just take one game at a time, focus on West Brom, and so on

I do like the 2nd tier but the top tier were the best.

I thought exactly the same when we beat Northampton at Sixfields two years ago. I assumed we couldn’t possibly carry on playing our attacking football, and that we’d have to hope for 0-0 draws and maybe nick just enough 1-0 wins to stay up. It didn’t turn out that way!

You're correct of course, but I take this as a given. Wilder's future is something that's down to the behaviour of others, so I won't let myself lose sleep over this until it's clear who actually owns us and what is clear regarding Wilder's position.

This isn’t how we go on, we are close but also miles away from promotion, re post in a month or two and we’ll all be scratching our heads one way or another
 
We only need to get ahead of one of the current incumbents of the Prem and stay ahead of the 2 no-hopers that get promoted with us, doesn't sound so tough now. Of course we should invoke the 300k buy backs on Maguire, Walker and Brooks. I'm sure that'll do it.

And it all started so well with the 1-1 draw with the Champions Derby County with the new South Stand. The rest was sheer misery. Although I remember an unexpectedly enjoyable 3-2 win at home to West Ham when Simon Stainrod looked like he could be the next big thing.
