Promotion based bonus

Would a very large promotion only based bonus be just as effective as signings.
For example £20million divided by 60 frontline playing/coaching staff would = £333,333k in a lump sum. Now that’s a ludicrous amount obviously but it’s a relatively small price to pay to get to the riches of the premier.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the idea ?

I think that effectively kills this thread, I assume that was a carrot dangled to any new signings and loan players too.

If you think our current players could play better because there's a chance of earning a massive bonus you're implying they're not giving their all at present. I can't agree with that.

No, not if the players you've got aren't good enough to win you promotion

That's one of the reasons you go out and buy more players, to make the squad stronger

Newcastle shared an extra £5M for promotion the other year. I would assume that is the top end of amounts clubs would be willing to share.

£20M would certainly jeopardise FFP. The Premier League has now agreed to collect fines and there is now an assessment every March and clubs can be deducted points which could deny promotion and play off places. You would have to declare these bonuses as forecasts if you got promotion even though you haven’t incurred anything at that point. At that amount it’s probably a non starter and anyway we don’t have that sort of money.

It was a thought I wanted up for discussion rather than an idea I wanted implemented. Anyway a post above has suggested it’d be in breach of FFP so the discussion is void anyway.

I’m not saying paying a bonus transgresses any FFP rules but an amount of £20M could easily tip the balance. The rules are you can’t lose more than £39M over 3 years. Most Champ clubs lose about £10M pa so you’ve a good chance an extra £20M tips you over the edge.

The FL has finally got an agreement with the PL to collect the fines.

Bournemouth got a fine of £7.6M but they haven’t got away with it. They’ve been hiding behind QPR’s legal action. They have a £40M fine and in October they finally lost their legal case. Although, of course, they are appealing. If they lose they are truly fucked but Bournemouth will have to pay for their cheating as well.

Just going on my football Manager experience I’d suggest a clean sheet bonus for defenders and GK’s !

John Fashanu used to get a two grand bonus for every goal he scored.

First of all they have to be written into contracts. There are all sorts of bonuses written in. Crowd size - league position, FA Cup rounds, League Cup rounds etc. Goals conceded/scored - total.
A players' contract is a many multi-page document. And like all of these there are ways around them. If a club wants to take a chance.

I think it should be shared between 60 frontline playing/coaching staff and 27,000 frontline supporters. Thats about £739 each.
Not a life changing amount admittedly, but would pay for next year's season ticket

Agreed, and it would also temp players to shoot when a better option is a pass. Most goals scored are team efforts not moments of individual brilliance
