Even if they're safely into the top 6, I would be surprised if they let up in the last two games or rested vital players. The last thing a team needs as it goes into the playoffs is a loss of momentum or a change of pace and style, or players that have been out for a game or two. Or worse, going into the playoffs on the back of two defeats. It would be different if they were mid-table with nothing to play for, but I doubt a Villa preparing for the playoffs will be an easy proposition.I think the problem, as Ricky said, is that it’s unlikelt that Villa are going to have anything to play for come those last 2 games. With the run they’re on at the moment, I think they’ll be safely nestled in and considering resting the likes of Grealish & Abraham.
I haven’t managed to catch any of Aston Villa’s last 4 games but very comfortable wins over teams around them; Villa, Forest and Derby and a win in their derby against Birmingham represent a great set of results. Jack Grealish must be some player to cause that kind of transformation. I’ve always rated him, but I didn’t think he was good enough to have this kind of galvanising impact.
