It’s a shocking programme with piss poor quality….. but in Birmingham’s defence at least they’ve produced one. On another note, Peterborough away was the first time I’ve come across that the programme sellers only accepted card payments
Spurs, first season back in the premier, naturally. Or maybe they didn't trust the kid in the portakabin 🤣

The Donny 72/3 and the Ilkeston friendly were bought by the same United supporter who lives down south. Without being nasty (we have all paid over the odds at some point) it appears this collector (and I’m not naming names) is happy to pay well over the odds rather than wait for a programme at the right price. He appears to have taken over that mantle from another Blade (again, I’m not naming names) I suppose if you’ve got significant sums to throw at the hobby, then the cost becomes irrelevant. The deeper you go into adding to your collection the more expensive it gets as you target the rarer items…. Though the two you mention aren’t rare at all
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just to clarify.........spongebob doesn't mean me.

I agree to a certain point Stu, but £51 for the Ilkeston friendly is lunacy, its been knocking about for years, and you'd never get more than a quid for it. I've given it away a number of times.

Clearly I'm a thicko. 😩

If you can remember a few years back there was an explosion for anything to do with Peter Bonetti. Four figures for single press photo's.

Two Chelsea collectors playing the big I am. Madness

Remember it well, everyone was frantically checking to see if they had anything Peter Bonetti related 😂…. I’m not surprised by the Ilkeston ‘winner’ but more intrigued by who on earth bid him up? When a programme is rare and you don’t have it you might go slightly overboard. When it’s run of the mill it just leaves you gobsmacked 😳

The programme is free to be fair, but come on, everyone knows that Robert Fleck is John's uncle!

Regarding the Huddersfield Programme, news filtered through that one of the more revered members of the CBF, accosted some youth who had been handed a programme outside the ground and then immediately tossed it away (I assume he couldn't read). Needless to say, said youth was told 'Have some respect'. Quite right.

Auction watch.

Not a programme this week but a sticker album.

The Holy grail for panini enthusiasts was up for grabs at Sheffield Auction House.

panini-sticker-cover-world-cup-1970.jpg
I've never been one to take too much notice on auction estimates, but one of the CBF nearly fell off his chair when bidding began at £600 for a Panini Mexico 70 album.

He was having heart palpatations and II was seriously thinking of reaching the defibrillator when bidding ended at £920, plus commission resulting it coming in at over £1100.

That apparently is cheap...but it was missing 23 stickers out of the 251.

I'm way behind on this season's programme reviews so lets try to catch up over the next week or so.

First up Fulham, similar template to United's, same size and 100 pages.

Scan 8.jpeg

Three pages from the Chairman, one from the manager and one from the Captain Tom Crainey.

There's an interest picture of Fulham allegedly scoring against us on Boxing Day 1980. I can't recall us ever wearing plain red shirts that look like we've borrowed them from Brunsmeer but no doubt someone like Silent Blade will know.

Decent away end section, where they have identified the danger man as MGW.

A full 7 page interview with Antoiine Robinson followed by six pages on our very own Ollie Norwood.

Top marks for the 'That was Then' column where it highlights a programme from a past match in this case 1957. They do another similar column referencing match tickets towards the back of the programme

Interesting read about when Fulham were struggling to survive and the attempts by Jimmy Hill to salvage them.

There's articles on former players Terry Bullivant and Ray Lewington, and Gordon Davies has a regular column.

I've always been big on mascots and Billy Badger has his own quiz page, although why they've got a badger, who knows, he's also one of the few mascots ever to have been sent off during a game.

Fulham on tour looks at Fulham's youngsters tour of Northern France 40 years ago, that's quite novel and original

There's also a picture from 1977 Bobby Moore being stalked by Simon Stainrod. and an interesting picture of Fulham allegedly scoring against us on Boxing Day 1980. I can't recall us ever wearing plain red shirts that look like we've borrowed them from Brunsmeer but no doubt someone like Silent Blade will know.

Scan 65.jpeg

All in all a pretty good read, £3.50 on the night. Fulham have faced criticism over away supporters buying programmes direct from them as they charge a whopping £4.95 postage. Anyone wishing to get a back copy should go direct to the publishers (Press Box) as they only charge £2.15 postage

Not seen this photo before. I didnt go to many home games in the early 1980s and if I went to an away game it would have to be around 1 hour drive from my home. Didnt know we wore red in the Boxing Day 1980 match and I didnt recognise our number 9. Looked it up, Les Tibbott was our number 9 in that match so I reckon that is him. Stewart Houston is on the ground, John Ryan (looked a bit like Chris Guthrie in the photo) behind keeper Steve Conroy. Gary West is number 6 and Paul Garner number 3

Sharrowblade I popped into the shop at the Lane thinking I could get one of the recent programmes in there, but they've stopped selling them. Do you recommend anywhere in particular to pick them up online? I've seen 'Ignition Sports Media' but just wondered if you knew if they are reputable? TIA

Ignition Sports are the company who produces the programme for United (and a few other clubs). Here the link to our page where you can pre-order and back order:

Do you know if Millwall are still doing matchday programmes?

Pretty sure I went to that game would have been 9. Was on the open away end and shred was a few steps behind me doing that uuuuunniiiiiiiigggggtttteeedd chant that he did.

Looks like a few blades on that side terrace as well

I think we played in Fulham’s away shirts that day for some reason, maybe because our away strip that season was white shirts & our home kit was the white sleeved one?
I think number 6 was Trusson who was sent off in the game, too early for Gary West.
I remember it was an early kickoff & having to leave very early in the morning, which didn’t go down very well at home 😆

Yes, you are right, I had looked in the wrong column in the Complete Records. Trusson's column was next to West's whose only appearance that season was in John Flynn's testimonial match. I didnt assume Trusson wearing a number 6 shirt but he did in a number of games that season

Yeh as Mobile Blade said Ignition are our publishers. Never had any trouble although they still owe me 2 Preston Programmes.

I think we should all email United thanking them for the quality of the programme and encouraging them to continue with it. I would hate United to give up on programmes.

Interesting that programme prices across the board haven’t kept up with inflation (I reckon they were £3 twenty years ago). Probably why some clubs have stopped making them.

The content in most programmes has gone down though. A bit like the Yorkie bars I buy now compared with twenty years ago.

Only someone who frequents this thread would even think like this......
Did the postponement of games cock up the picture that the spine of the programmes creates when put together in order the games were scheduled/played?

No, as long as the postponed programmes are taken out.

The postponed games against QPR and Middlesbrough both had the same spine.

The following programme against Luton also had the same spine

At the moment they're still in sequence, although they have got form for cocking it up like the other season.

Apart from the pages with the grey background and very thin text that you can hardly read. That’s shocking! My dad used to work at a printers, he says they need more ink!

And also being a critic - this season it’s reflecting on the division 4 season. There are cut out type pictures of articles from then, but they are so tiny they are impossible to read…

I think whoever the programme editor is should pick things up like this.

I do like to read the articles by John Garrett though. Most of them are very interesting. You can tell when he’s rushed one, but most are really good. He seems like a great guy.

I have lodged a complaint into the superstore that whose ever idea it was to put the Blades crest on front of the programme binders, instead of the spine, needs their heads looking at.

Binders are meant for bookcases, a plain black spine is just stupid. I know I need to get out more but its done my nut in.

I realised I needed glasses when trying to read the programme!

Couple of interesting points raised there Russ, I went to Stocksbridge Tuesday night and whilst dribbling over a Farmers Blonde I attempted to read the programme, you wouldn't have liked it. White text on yellow background is not the best choice.

It was the same at Luton this season and the programme seller seemed reluctant to come to the away end too. I nearly missed out on the programme.

Maybe you should have got the Farmer’s Blonde to read it to you instead 😂
