Prince is taking over

Lads, lads, hang on.

Let's think of a few scenarios.

One is that the Prince did indeed want to go "all in" in the JTW, and McCabe couldn't/wouldn't match it.

One is that McCabe did indeed want to go "all in" in the JTW and the Prince couldn't/wouldn't match it.

I heard well before Christmas, from someone connected with the club, that things were "not right" in the boardroom, in fact I am sure a few of us heard the same thing.

Now, we suddenly have Jan Van Winckel coming on board, other board room shuffles, and then the Prince suddenly buys into a Belgian club (ok, it was rumoured a while back) and Jan Van Winckel is also appointed to the board of that club.

Two scenarios, in my mind anyway.

1. The Prince wants/wanted to invest more and go for promotion, is stifled by McCabe (somehow) and decides that he wants to take the whole lot on, buy SUFC and also a club in Belgium that can be a low cost testing ground/feeder club for SUFC, knowing that the richest and most respected league in the World is the Premier League, and he wants to get there. So he has a Championship club, managed by a great team, in CW and AK, and a Belgian club that may just unearth the next Lukaku, to transfer to us, build a team, win promotion.

So the Prince is buying the whole shebang of SUFC

2. The Prince wants/wanted to invest more and go for promotion, is stifled by McCabe (somehow) and decides his best course of action lies in other things, and wants out of SUFC, but not football. Asks to be bought out of his 50%, McCabe refuses, so buys another club in Belgium (so he still has a club to invest in) and then triggers the clause to buy out McCabe, which I assume, also means that McCabe has the same rights, to buy out the Prince.

So McCabe has no option but to buy out the Prince, because he doesn't want to give up SUFC, and the only way of keeping SUFC is to buy 50% backk and look for investment.

Not thought this through 100%, but the statement from the club was either deliberately timed to come out after The Prince and the Belgian club news, or it had to be hastily put out today, again, because of the Prince and the Belgian club news.

Hope the prince continues on the path were on, its one of the best times to be a blade, personally dont want to be a man city, know some city fans who long for there old days when they had an identity

Unless you're more ITK than you're letting on I'm baffled how you came to those conclusions based on the statement on the OS.

There's no hint of KM having reciprocal buy out rights and the Prince's interest in buying a club in Belgium has been known for some time.

Hrh was ordered by the king of Saudi that he was going to be a Prince in their government ,he had to sell his shares in Saudi paper and do his duty .he is high end Saudi royalty
That was the earlier King. Not sure he's as well connected to the new regime. I think that's probably why he unexpectedly finished his term as a Minister. I seem to remember him saying he was expecting to do about 10 years.

Maybe not even close enough to tap them up for a few quid to spunk on the Blades. :)

Do the stadium plans submitted to the Council include a torture dungeon ?

Sorry. I REALLY do not want our club owned from thousands of miles away by someone whose grasp of football in Britain can only be tenuous at best, and for whom we are likely to be little more than a vanity project or bauble. Hilarious when it’s happening in S6. Not remotely funny when it’s happening to us. And I don’t care about how fucking rich he is.
It's the way it is going though. If we want the success we all want, then it was inevitable that to achieve that the club was likely to be bought by someone who doesn't support the club (I know the Prince isn't minted in football terms !!) but there obviously aren't many Blades that are seriously rich enough.

To my mind only Bristol and Stoke are owned by Billionaires who support the club they own. I would love that to happen to us but not sure we have any fans or local people who are billionaires or at least £500+ millionaires.

By Kev releasing the club (had to happen someday, at 70 and a millionaire I'd retire at some point !) it could be an amazing time ahead or quite the opposite, I have no idea.

Who would you want to take over ?

The McCabes clearly did not have the funds and/or desire to take us forward but let’s hope the Prince does.

I’m cautiously optimistic this will be good for the club and fans.
I'm absolutely certain there was no lack of desire, unfortunately I'm equally certain that the required funds were not available.

If they had been, they would have been spent.

McCabe is a Blades nut in every sense of the word ;)

Surely when the option was agreed KM thought the Prince was the right choice. All we can hope for is the Prince to put some real money in if/when he gains full control.

I’d like to see a comment showing intent from him, if that doesn’t break any confidentiality agreements.
So he has divided interest between two clubs. That may suggest that the jam will be thinly spread for the Blades

I’d like to think that Kev would leave the club in capable hands that are going to drive the club in the same direction he’d like to see us go in. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as I’d like to hope he will drive us forward

Here’s Bladesmanluke’s list of don’t, FAO Prince Abdullah.

A) Leave Bramall Lane, regardless of destination, I’m done

B) Change the club crest, regardless of design, I’m done

C) Change the primary kit colours or do away with stripes, I’m done

D) Fuck us over in a yet to be disclosed way, I’m done

All that said, I trust our prince far more than any other foreign investor we could’ve had taking over full control. He’s been under Kevin’s wing long enough to know how we roll and what we don’t like and i dont think Kev would sell us down the river if he didn’t trust the prince had our best interests in mind.
You sound like my young grandson when I'm waiting for him to finish having a crap.;)

City fans certainly are a strange bunch. There are clearly some who would rather go back to being fucking wank! As illustrated by the empty seats at big matches especially European Cup matches.

Can’t help feeling some Blades would be exactly the same if we ever got to that level! And it is understandable to some extent. There’s a lot to dislike about top level modern football but the hope of the fan is that your team wins when it plays a match. The eventual result of doing this a lot is that your team will be in the Prem and Champs league.

The Wolves fans seemed pretty happy on Saturday. I’d settle for something like that.

Or McCabe has, for a while now, been looking to step down because of a) his age
b) his family c) he realises his cash won't be enough for the next step.
He has introduced the Prince to our club and worked alongside him long enough to feel that he can be trusted with the future of The Mighty Blades.
The time anticipated in the agreement of 2013 is now right and the Prince takes charge of Sheffield United FC with the intention of seeing them into the PL under the present excellent management team :)

for me the prince must want to invest more, and if he's got other backers then it makes sense that he wants full control .
theres no doubt that to get to the next level will take alot more investment and the prince seems a sensible guy compared to some owners.

I really don't get all the negativity especially as most on here have slagged McCabe almost non stop for years.

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't HRH put >£15m into the club since coming on board? I very much doubt Utd would be in the Champ without it.

Very few on here, if anyone will know the detail behind the statement and seem to be very much focusing on negative scenarios but HRH obviously has a plan and don't forget the only way he'll see any significant return on his investment will be for Utd to get into the Prem.

I, for one, am looking forward to the next chapter.

Well I’m worried. Of course that could be the anxiety disorder talking, or it could be simple common sense.

If we see investment in our infrastructure in the next year my fears will be allayed. If we see a change in manager then they won’t be.

Buckle up!

Like others have said I don't know how to feel about the whole thing. It's obvious we need to invest heavily as the championship has changed so much in the 6 years since we were last here but part of me wanted to do it on the cheap like back in the Bassett days and stick two fingers up to modern football.

On the other hand if by some miracle we do become another man city I for one will look forward to it. Is everyone going to be clambering for the "good old days" when we were getting spanked by Shrewsbury and Walsall if we were playing in Europe or winning trophies? I nearly jizzed my pants when we scored at Wembley for Christ's sake I can only imagine what it'd be like if we won a cup there!

No I am not in the know at all Bush, I know people who genuinely are (people who know K McCabe, know Chris Wilder, know ex players still connected to the club) , but it's not me. Not really read the statement as I have been on the phone to the USA (not related to SUFC!), and Mrs G has just called me to say that Jim Phipps is back on Twitter saying "thanks to Kevin McCabe for all you have done", so it looks like the Prince is making the move.

I still find the timing of the Belgian club story, and this story, very odd.
