For me promotion outweighs the importance of the title - imagine this scenario...
We lose the next 3 games, Bolton go above us and Fleetwood are right back in it and only 1 point behind us with an easier run in.

How many on here would be demanding we win the title then? Utter nonsense! Win promotion then set our sights on the title.

On a more positive note we could actually be promoted if we win only 3 more games...

  • 3 more wins for us gives us 88 points (add to this that us losing 4 out of 7 is highly unlikely)
  • Fleetwood would have to win 6 and draw 1 from their remaining 7 fixtures (highly unlikely) to match us on 88
  • Bradford, Scunny, Southend and Millwall cannot reach 88 points even if they win every single one of their games

So 88 points is likely to be the promotion target. I really don't care about the title until we are up!

UTMB!

This, absolutely Fuckin this!

We've been so dominate in this league so far. Coming second to those pie munchers will really take the shine off this promotion season.
I know that will sound daft to some, but being reeled in and overtaken by Bolton will be a severe kick in the guts. We ain't won a trophy in nearly 35 years, please don't bottle it now Blades.

This will only be of concern to me once we have achieved promotion, not a second before.

If Bolton end up winning the title then they will have a fully deserved it. Not because they are better than us but purely and simply because they have found a way to gain more points than us!

I really, really want us to win the title. I've been going for over twenty years and all I've seen is one promotion (and three fucking relegations!). I'd be very disappointed if we didn't get the title, and disappointed in myself for being so disappointed.

Being disappointed in not winning the title doesn't equal being critical of the team or Wilder, or not acknowledging how well we've done.

It's simply just for once wanting to see us win something, be the best, even if it is only Division 3.

End of the day no matter how long any of us have been watching us, the vast majority will at most have only ever seen us win the 4th division.

We're an underachieving club over decades in terms of our stature, so after 6 godforsaken years at this level it would be satisfying to take the silverware.

It's fair to say we will be promoted.

Our mini season of 7 matches starts on Tuesday. We are four points and a better goal difference (admittedly small) clear of our only rival in this mini-season. For those who don't care if we win the title or not have to accept that some if not all of the next seven matches are going to be disappointing.

This could end up defining our season which would be unjustified when you consider what has been achieved in the other 39 games.

Going up after six years in league one in 2nd place to fookin Bolton who were in the championship last season no thank you, that would certainly put a dampener on my celebrations.
LET'S WIN THE LEAGUE

Were going up and should therefore not panic. Wilder should tell them we are pretty much there and to continue enjoying it. If the players relax and play the stuff we've been playing all season we'll win the league at a canter.

Bolton have won 5 on the bounce (after a horrendous spell) and have slightly narrowed the gap. It's still 4 points mind. After Chesterfield at home next weekend Bolton travel to Southend, Scunthorpe and Oldham. All are fighting for something and two in decent form. They've got a couple of straight forward looking games and also travel to Vale. I'd be amazed if they did not drop points.

I'd argue that our run in is slightly easier as we have 4 home games and most of the teams 'have nothing to play for'.

I'm happy as larry that we are getting out of this division but I would be disappointed if we didn't win the league. Mainly because we are by far the best team. Also we are 4 points clear with 7 to go and really didn't ought to fuck it up. Bolton are excellent defensively but are methodological hoof merchants whilst we have torn the division up. Our poor start and not been clinical enough (we may look back at Walsall, Gillingham, Charlton etc and say 'if only') may yet catch up on us but if we play as we have been doing we'll win the title easily.

How old are you? Old enough to remember our last promotion from this League? Second place to Wolves? Not worth it in your book..should have handed it to Port Vale then...

What happend the following season?

Bolton have had ALL the advantages this season, big money players on Loan, debts written off, like some others before them..

You don't want to celebrate promotion however it comes? Don't bother renewing next season then.

I'm Mr Pessimistic but even I'm convinced we are up. As much has I like Fleetwood and would love them to come up with us i just can't see us dropping enough points for them to catch us.
But I'm greedy I want to go up has champions and anything less would feel a let down.
Partly because it's in our own hands and still is, but our inability to keep a clean sheet could end up costing us the title. Add to the fact I genuinely think we are a better side than Bolton and if I was a neutral I would sooner watch us than them.
So finishing 2nd would feel like a let down and I would feel a tad disappointed and probably would leave at the final whistle against Chesterfield.

I also dislike Bolton mostly because of their old chairman who tried to make the premiership a closed shop, (surprisingly when Bolton were in the premiership), but also with the way they have been run.

Only in S2 would promotion be regarded as disappointing or a let-down.

Let's give 'em a good old Boooo against Chesterfield if they let us down by going up....

I blame Tufty, McCabe and the players for Bolton winning five on the bounce and still being four points adrift.

I'm sure Wilders remit from the board was promotion. I don't believe for one minute his remit was to win the division

Personally, I don't give a flying fk how that comes. If we get promoted then Wilder has done his job. I just want out of this God forsaken division. 6 years is just too long.

If we win the title then I see that as a bonus

Strange tho that 2 weeks ago we were 12 points clear of Bolton and whilst we haven't done a lot wrong in that time, they have reduced that lead significantly. After the bad patch they had, they've handled the pressure well and turned it around so fair play (bastards  )

And finally, it just proves that we hadn't won the division weeks ago as some seem to profess on here. Bolton are right back in it.

Is to get out of this hell hole, if we take the title nice bonus but I ain't going to worry if the 2nd place team make ground on us when the 3rd placed team doesn't.

#10 points clear, 7 more to play.

Agree 100% - and to add to that - still four points clear of Bolton after a tough away match, which we didnt lose.

Get out of the division is uber alles aim. The title - focus on that once the maths on promotion are done.

As soon as promotion's confirmed that's it.

I still think we'll win the league, but at the end of the day it's not something that matters at all in the long term.

Primary aim is to win games of football - one at a time. But then what is the point of entering a competition to come 2nd?

Just keep picking up points - simple.

Losers come 2nd btw and I don't think that's in CW's book of football.

But that's a childish retort. The majority who are saying they want to win the league aren't being critical in any way. I don't need one hand to count those who are going OTT on it.

I can only presume, however, you weren't impressed by the back to back promotions under Harry.

I was Diplodelighted...

Let down or disappointment seem like the wrong words. Not sure if there are better ones.

Expectations and ambitions change quickly in football. We earned our way to the top of the table, and we built a gap. Now, personally, I've been saying that Bolton were capable of putting this form together, so no surprises here. I also think yesterday was an okay result, and the gap dropping to 4 based on one draw and their game in hand doesn't concern me much. But now that we're up here in the top spot, it does feel as though the title is a very reasonable ambition, and having had the gap and a little bit of pressure, to me, it would mean everything to see the Blades finally take a trophy and put to bed the stories about how we always bottle it.

This team is good enough to win the title. If we go up in second, I'll be in the celebrations with everyone else. If we go up as Champions, I'll finally get to see us put to bed all that crap we hear about bottling it.

I don't want to have to hear anyone talk about how we fell just short or let ourselves down, even if only slightly. This could be the season where we play up to our strength and get the top prize.
