3 wins out of 18.

We're not very good at this are we?

You forgot 1987 and the final-day win against Huddresfield, which makes it four wins in 21.

42 23.04.1988 West Bromwich Albion home D0-0
43 30.04.1988 Reading away L1-2
44 07.05.1988 Huddersfield Town away W2-0

Wondering how many of the 21 games were played when we were already in the play offs, whatever the outcome, so we were testing formations, resting players etc

In 2003 we did have our reserves playing Watford tbf.

Not really.

Curtis, Kozluk, Page, Rankine, Ndlovu and Asaba all started against Watford.

They all started in the play off final.

The only players who played against Watford who had no involvement in the final were Kelly, Cas, Montgomery and Windass.

We've never hit the play-offs in form, 2003 was the closest which is why we were unlucky under Blackwell the season he took over and Clough last season that we were too far behind before we got going.

MK / PNE and maybe Swindon will hit the play-offs on a downer and hopefully, Chezzie have peaked too soon but we really do need to get going now although for the reasons mentioned elsewhere, we aren't going to suddenly switch on the form.

All of them I think.

Can't remember us ever surging into the play offs in the last three matches.

The momentum and form last season would have been great, had we made the top six, we were on a roll

I was pissed off with the lineup against Oldham last week but people talked me around whilst explaining the advantages of resting players.
Personality I believe momentum and confidence is massive in the playoffs. I've no proof, maybe someone smarter than myself can point out the form of previous playoff winners- but what I do know is that if chesterfield or MKdons were to play us this weekend they'd fancy their chances.

We were only 4 points off under Blackwell, in great form, Beattie etc

Slightly off topic but some people I know ran into James Beattie a few months ago, had pictures taken with him, etc., One thing he said to them was that he had no idea about the Stoke deal until he was called in to see McCabe and told he was leaving BDTBL, he said he was stunned and genuinely gutted.

Exactly what I was getting at... It is very very rare for a team to win the playoffs on a torrid run of form... This just proves it even more so

United made no effort whatsoever to beat Watford. Windaus was the chief culprit, and he carried his poor form into the Forest games.

1988 - in relegation battle until last day. Could have gone down automatically.

1997- playoff place secured by Stoke win

1998 - hung on to 6th despite poor results as Birmingham failed to win last game

2003 - already qualified before last 3 games

2009 - automatic promotion still possible on last day

2012 - same as 2009

2013 - think we'd already made it before last 3 but not 100% sure.

So we have had something to play for in the last 3 games more often than not.

At half time in the 1st leg at Forest, Kenny Burns (Forest hard man in late 1970s and early 1980s) had an argument with Windass outside the changing rooms and the ground officials had to pull them apart. Not sure why Burns was angry with Windass

Good work, it's fair to say none of them finished on fire!
Although they all did well considering they might have been resting players -except Yeovil

He'd not been playing golf in the group following him the day before had he?

Only thing going for us then is that THERES ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT!

What's the worst form anyone has gone into the play offs in and won?

I seem to remember Blackburn collapsing from Automatic certainties to needing to win on the last day to make the Championship play offs in the early 90's before going on to win the play offs.

(The won the Premier League 3 years later I think)

Barnsley v Rochdale

cant see Rochdale eeking 12 points from these
they are the only real challenge and it looks a hard run in
MK Dons could see us through nicely

Rochdale will not beat Barnsley due to the Keith Hill factor . The more you look into the run in , of other teams , the more the Yeovil result becomes less significant ( although performance unacceptable ) . The name of the game would be having the first leg away , but i do not think this will happen. Changes again in the line up against Bradford , which i feel may be another disappointing result.

I could see Barnsley letting Rochdale win if it meant us not making the play off's, still I don't see it coming to that surely we can get one more win in the last three games and I can't see Rochdale beating MKD. It would though be nice to enter the play off's as a team with a bit of form rather than a team in disarray and low on confidence. It don't worry me us being away in the second leg either in fact the way we play it could well suit us, if we get to the final it is 50/50 whoever we play who wants it most and turns up on the day will win. The trouble is you have to question if the players want it at times

We now have the opportunity to win on the final day heading into the play offs for the first time.

We were only 4 points off under Blackwell, in great form, Beattie etc

We actually made it into the play offs for probably the first time that season when we went 1-0 up at Southampton (Quinn scoring if i remember correctly from a Rob Hulse cross?)

we then lost that game but it wouldn't have mattered anyway as we'd have been short with 3 points.

Play offs during that season with Robson would have been a monumental achievement, it would have been similar to when Palace were promoted under Ian Dowie
