We never looked like scoring. Get rid Carruthers in JTW STANDS ABOUT WAITING FOR THE effing ball to come to hi foot.. Lundstrum gives it away. We need the midfield sorted DUFFY FLECK missing and it bloody showed today. Never worked their keeper at all

You seriously lacked creativity but I suppose that's to be expected with Duffy and Brooks both not available. Carruthers doesn't look Championship standard.

Basham and Lundstram clearly don't compare to Fleck and Coutts either - you really do need to recruit better alternatives to them next month.

Also thought whilst Sharp/Clarke always look a bit of a handful you lack the pace to stretch defences, so I'd have though you'll want a fast striker in January.

We probably played you at the right time tbh but a win's a win and Alex Neil has us heading in the right direction.

Lundstrum was a positive. Carruthers was awful. Poor service into the box, and Sharp was awful when we did.

No need to over analsyse it, we’ve had our heart ripped out.

Those expecting big investment in January are going to be disappointed, but some fresh blood is needed.

Yes agree, but apparently CW wanted better quality players but couldn’t get them in (for whatever the reason) we need Quality players ‘pushing for a first team spot’ in my opinion none of the fringe players can say they are pushing for a first team place.

He's my take on the day:

Been back from Preston a bit - so a few bullet points.

1) Traffic never gets any better in Glossop or Tintwhistle
2) Nice pint of Boddys as it usually on that side of the Pennines
3) Sadly, not really impressed with the midfield before the game - but it's sort of what we expected.
4) Great view - row 25, right behind the goal - it's a nice, tidy stadium to be fair. Preston - your support is rubbish.
5) Generally controlled the 1st half but we didn't use the possession we had and never really troubled the GK.
6) half time: and my comments to my boy: CW would have said - you've done well, just keep it going. Alex Neill would have said - you were fucking shite, step it up and you'll win the game.
7) 10 minutes into 2nd half - yep they've stepped it up and played 10/15 yards further forward, we just didn't and the inevitable happened. We simply weren't in the game at all second half except for a 5 minute patch when 1 down.
8) Carruthers - what an embarrassment - surely on his way out in January.
9) Basham - look, it's been said before - he is NOT a central midfield player - tried really hard, put in his usual 100%. but doesn't effect the game.
10) Lundstram - I hear what some of our fans say - give him time - sorry, we do not have time to give him. he does not effect the game or influence it where it is so IMPORTANT. He's no Coutts and never expected him to be, but I am sorry, he won't get or keep us in the top 6.
11) Billy - not a good game really - but to be fair, both he and Clarke had scraps to fight over - we had nothing in Centre midfield worth discussing to give to them up top.
12) The defence - never been convinced by Stearman in the middle of the back 3 - perhaps RCB? - Sorry, it won't work if we want to play in the top 6. He wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, just NGE - we look damn average now.
13) What has happened to our pressing? Preston just got at us 2nd half - not heard post match CW - bet he is fuming.

Summary: we look more and more ordinary as each week goes on. We could have poxed that game by half time with the possession we had, but we will never again dominate games properly unless we solve centre midfield.

PS: The strictly final and my wife's stew and dumpling had more entertainment than going over to Preston - now that's not good for someone who ALWAYS looks forward to seeing United play anywhere. Pretty quiet drive back too, as the question is: where do we go from here?
